  1. Both cars are built on the same platform. Both are powered by the most powerful series-production four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. Not only that, both are equipped with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission and performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. These two cars could not be more similar. We are taking about the Mercedes A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG. Auto Express has put up a comparison test involving the two AMG vehicles. These cars are the first four-cylinder models from the tuning company. So, which model will emerge victorious ? The CLA 45 AMG The A 45 AMG
  2. This is a review of the brand new Audi A3 sedan, which replaces the A4 as the new entry level saloon for the Ingolstadt carmaker. The variant reviewed is the 1.4 TFSI which features COD (cylinder on demand), direct injection and turbocharging technologies. It produces 140bhp with 250Nm of torque and sends the small German sedan from 0 to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds. There are other engine options for the A3 sedan at launch which include a 2.0 TDI and 1.8 TFSI. The 1.4 TFSI variant reviewed should be the volume seller when it touches down in Singapore. The review is quite positive. The cabin is said to feel a lot more expensive than its price tag and the driving experience also matches a much more expensive car as the refinement is fantastic. At the end of the review, the reviewer even commented that the A3 sedan is a pretty good alternative to the Audi A4.
  3. [extract] Volkswagen has retained two awards at this year's Auto Express New Car Awards - for the Beetle Cabriolet and the Amarok under the Best Convertible and Best Pick-up category. The awards, presented at a ceremony in London, recognise the best cars on sale today as judged by the editorial team at Auto Express - Britain
  4. The brand new Octavia III has won the overall 2013 "Tow Car of the Year award" in the UK. It also bagged the award for the "up to 1,424kg" category. Before I carry on, we are not talking about towing a broken-down car to the workshop but pulling a caravan. Caravanning is hugely popular in Britain. Auto Express teamed up with The Caravan Club and put 23 new cars through a series of tests to name the "Tow Car of the Year 2013". The award started just seven years ago. The Octavia that won the award is fitted with a 2.0-litre TDI that pumps out 150bhp with 320Nm of torque. Tipping the scale at 1,330kg (kerb weight), the Czech sedan is the lightest overall winner ever. The judges commented that the Skoda tows brilliantly and is extremely practical with a cargo space of 590 litres. It is good to drive and not costly to own. Most importantly, it proves that a great tow car doesn't need to be heavy, thirsty or expensive. There is no news regarding the Octavia III's availability in Singapore at the moment.
  5. Recently, Auto Express setup a quarter mile drag race between two AMG models. They are the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake and the 'entry level' AMG, the A 45 AMG. The competition feels like David vs Goliath as the CLS 63 AMG has a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine that generates 518bhp while the 45 AMG makes do with a turbocharged 2.0-litre that makes 355bhp. In terms of engine capacity, the CLS63 is more than two times that of the A45. Is the A45 destined to lose the drag race to its much more powerful sibling? Or will the lighter AWD hot hatch with dual-clutch transmission reign supreme? I shall leave the conclusion for you to find out! A 45 AMG CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake
  6. Recently, British magazine Auto Express pit the Audi R8 against the new Porsche 911 on a race track. These two supercars are actually distant relatives considering that both brands are under the Volkswagen Group's umbrella. The Audi R8 received a facelift in 2012 with the addition of a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission that replaces the six-speed automated manual R-tronic. At the other corner, the all new Porsche 911 has a rich heritage that dates back to 1963 and has been acclaimed as one of the world's benchmark sports cars. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is propelled by a flat-six, 3.8-litre engine with an output of 394bhp. In the 4S, power is distributed to all four wheels via a PDK dual clutch transmission. On the other hand, the R8 in this comparison test is motivated by a free-breathing 4.2-litre V8 with 424bhp. Like the 911, the R8 has an all-wheel drive setup. Whoever wins this group test, Volkswagen wins.
