  2. Hi all, Have not been to Jakarta for quite sometimes. Most of the time, it was friends that bring me around. This time round wanted to DIY and don't want to disturb them. So where is the best area to stay (since I'm not driving)? in term of : 1. Ease of access to Shopping area . (Not too far between city center and airport). Heard there is a 7Floor slide in a Hotel or Shopping centre. 2. Night Market . (For street food) 3. Places of interest. (Intend to go Bogor to visit Taman Safari) . 4. Bandung (Wanted to give someone a surprise visit) . Thank you very much for your advice. Regards,

  4. Indonesia's 'Mat rempits': Winner gets to have SEX with LOSER'S GIRLFRIEND Every weekend night in Taman Aries and Puri Kencana, Kembangan, West Jakarta, Indonesia, sees illegal motorcyle street racing by teenagers. Other than the danger factor of the racing circuits, these teens also bet for money and sometimes, their girlfriends, according to a report on Indoboom.com. Bets can range from $10 to $100 and can even go up to $1,000. When betting using their girlfriends, the report states that the racer that wins gains the right to have sex with the loser racer's girlfriend. Police have said that they routinely conduct raids in the areas. Metro Kembangan's Head Police Commissioner Agus Herru is supportive of a plan to enforce compulsory education hours so as to get the teens off the streets, according to the report. 6. Some of you readers may have noticed that I have not been posting regularly as of late. This is basically because I have been traveling a fair bit recently and I was over on the island of Java for nearly a week's worth of R & R after attending a (non-motoring) business event in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. Now Jakarta is indeed a place which all of you should go to if given the chance. This metropolis is the largest city in the region and it is indeed an eye opener. It is a city where there is a love for statues and monuments of a grand scale and it is also a city that is also epic when it comes to motoring in and around it. It should be, as Jakarta has over twenty million people living in it. When you have a city that has that many people and haphazard town planning (as the city has basically grown to enormous proportions and engulfed the surrounding areas where tiny roads cannot cope with the growth) traffic jams are the norm. When I first touched down I was ushered into a Toyota Kijang Innova
  7. http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE56G0EX20090717 JAKARTA (Reuters) - Four people were killed in two separate explosions on Friday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the Marriott Hotel in central Jakarta, Indonesia's Metro TV reported. Police have confirmed the blasts, but not yet said if they were caused by bombs. There have not been any major bomb blasts in Indonesia for several years, and this month the country's presidential election passed off peacefully. "There were explosions heard from two separate places, one the JW Marriott, the other in the Ritz Carlton. We are still trying to check because right now we are still helping the victims," said South Jakarta Police Chief Firman Santyabudi. Witnesses at the scene told Metro TV that the injured, including Indonesians and foreigners, were seen being taken away in ambulances. "Some windows of the Ritz-Carlton building have been shattered, mostly on the lower section. I'm looking at it from my office," said Myra Junor, who works at a nearby building. The Marriott Hotel was badly damaged by a car bomb attack in 2003 that killed 12 people. That coincided with a period when Islamists militants carried out numerous attacks, including bombings in Bali in 2002 that killed 202 people. Many militants have since been arrested.
