  1. Little did he know... Now, we don't know whether to laugh or be angry if we came across such a situation. As seen on STOMP is this video of a driver driving along Tampines Ave 4 with the intention of turning into Tampines Central 1 when he/she realises that there is suddenly another car in his/her path. This was captured on 8th of Dec 2020 and we bet the camera car driver must have been shocked as he seemed to be traveling at a decent speed before needing to slam onto the brakes after he spots the offending car in his lane.
  2. After watching this clip that was spotted on SG Road Vigilante, we can't help but see the importance of being able keep our own temper in control. Losing one's temper is easy and when not kept in check, you might end up doing something you will regret in the future. Shot on the evening of 26th of September 2020 along Central Blvd, a Honda Accord can be seen in the video cutting in from the left of the camera car at high speed before slamming onto its brakes real hard. The camera car, which itself seems to be going along at quite some speed, could not stop in time and crashed into the Accord as the result. While no one can confirm the Accord driver's intention, it is almost safe to say that he just wanted to let the camera knock into him by braking hard to a stop for no reason. As it was a slight bump, no one was hurt. The Accord driver then got out calmly and proceed to take some photos. So guys, what do you reckon? Is this part of a road rage incident which the camera car's footage did not show? Or is it an insurance scam? Or is it a combination of both? Let us know in the comments below!
  3. Da nang Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam known for its sandy beaches and history as a French colonial port. Da Nang is the 3rd largest city of Vietnam, they call it a touristy city. It's a popular base for visiting the inland Bà Nà hills to the west of the city. South of Da Nang toward Hoi An is Marble Hill, these 5 limestone outcrops are topped with pagodas and hide caves containing Buddhist shrines (copy from wiki). Da nang is famous for its beaches they called it Hawaii of the East. Many 5* resorts and spa resorts build along the long stretch of the beach all the way to Hoi An. First day arrived at Da nang around 8pm, queue up at the taxi stand, there is no visible sign and we just follow the little crowd (like 3-4 people) waiting. There was an airport staff managing the queue and will ask where you are going, please be careful when he assign you to another guy whose taxi is not in the queue cos those are not charge by meter. You can be charged 4-5x the meter fare but if you arrange for hotel transfer, it will probably about the same but you feel safer then taking public transport. Our hotel is 3min walk away from the river and 5 min walk to the dragon bridge. There are 2 streets with many eateries and more variety if you go somewhere further by taxi. Day time walk around in Da nang you will see many Korean tour group. The Han central market is a must to visit in Da nang, you get reasonable price as the local also shop there. Almost all the stalls sell G7 kopi. The market is divided into 2 floor, ground floor for dried food, wet market, household necessities & food stalls. Upstairs were clothing, shoes and fabric. .................................... more to come!
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAP9bZb5HVA A woman was taken to hospital after a door fell onto her at the carpark lift lobby of Alexandra Central Mall on Sunday evening (Feb 24). Several Stompers alerted Stomp to a video of the incident, which occurred on the fourth floor of the building at around 6.24pm. In the video, a man is seen entering the lift lobby through its doors. A woman then followed behind. As the pair waited for the lift, one door swung shut and came into contact with an adjacent door. This caused the adjacent door to suddenly fall on the woman, who is sent crashing onto the floor. Another man can be seen rushing into the lift lobby and helping the woman's male companion to move the glass off her. The two men then helped the woman to sit up. In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for medical assistance at 321 Alexandra Road at around 6.30pm and conveyed one person to National University Hospital. When Stomp visited Alexandra Central Mall on Tuesday (Feb 26) at around 5.40pm, the affected door had been removed. Warning signs had also been put up. Stomp has reached out to Alexandra Central Mall for comment. https://stomp.straitstimes.com/singapore-seen/door-falls-onto-woman-at-carpark-lift-lobby-of-alexandra-central-mall hope she is not seriously injured
  5. http://eatbook.sg/pasir-ris-central-hawker/ Things to eat at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre New food place to explore. It is advertised as an instagram worthy hawker center served by young entrepreneurs. I would very much prefer simple hawker fares at less exorbitant prices compared to 'hipster' food but if the food is good, it's still worth a try. Anyone been here?
  6. A bomb exploded outside a religious shrine in central Bangkok late on Monday, killing at least two people and wounding scores more, according to an AFP reporter at the scene. Body parts were scattered across the street after the bomb went off outside the Erawan Shrine in the downtown Chidlom district of the Thai capital. "I can confirm it was a bomb, we can't tell which kind yet, we are checking," national police spokesman Lietenant General Prawut Thavornsiri told AFP. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/thailand/11807583/Explosion-rocks-Bangkok-close-to-Erawan-shrine-with-reports-of-casualties-live.html Update: A bomb blast in a busy tourist area of Bangkok has left 12 dead, injuring at least 20. The blast took place just after 7pm local time, with emergency services racing to the scene. Images shared on social media have shown destruction of the surrounding area, and bodies lying dead in the street. The explosion, in the Rachaprasong intersection of central Bangkok, was confirmed by local police to be set off by a bomb. Eyewitnesses say that bodies in the streets are being covered with white sheets as police investigate the area.
  7. Hi Guys, My CO wants to get her driving license too. Got any good private driving instructors to recommend in the west/central part of Singapore? Thanks in advance!!
  8. There hasn't been any write up on travel to this lesser known area in Indonesia. In fact, only when I was invited to visit my friend's hometown of Semarang, then did I googled about it. The invite came just as Singapore was enveloped in haze last month & was informed by my friend that his hometown is free of it. I brought a box of face masks just in case

  12. I was involved in a traffic accident today at about 8.25am along Pasir Ris Central. My car was stationary behind a white volkswagen scirocco, SJZ 6094J, while waiting to make a U turn to Pasir Ris Sports Complex. A sliver Toyota Wish, from the opposite direction, mounted the center divider, knocked down the U turn sign and hit my rear right door. I need the driver of the white scirocco to be my witness. I appeal to the scirocco driver or anyone who knows the scirocco driver to pm me if u see this post. Would greatly appreciate if members of volkswagen or scirocco club can help to repost this appeal at the respective forums. Thanks and have a happy long wkend.

  17. http://www.h88.com.sg/article/Toa+Payoh+Ce...s+%24894%2C000/ The latest data from HDB revealed an interesting gem - a 110 sqm 5-room resale flat in Toa Payoh Central went for a whopping $894,000. HDB resale prices are inching towards the million mark ever so quickly! Where is this flat? It lies between the 36th to 40th floor of Blk 79C (it's in one of those tall blocks you see in the pic on the left). This 2009 TOP-ed unit is right opposite Toa Payoh Central and within minutes of the MRT. If we're not wrong, a 5-room unit should have fetched around $350-$400k when it was a BTO back then in 2004/5. That means the flat effectively doubled in price within 3 years! Working out the sums, converting 110 sqm to square feet we get 1,184 sqft. Meaning this unit was sold for $755 psf, a price range you in new Exectutive Condos. Wow! This is like striking lottery! That kind of price range is waaaay out of reach for most young couples who've just started their careers. Forget about mature estates, stick with Punggol! Another interesting fact is this unit was sold within the 5-year minimum occupancy period (MOP) which prompts even more speculation. Certain criteria has to be met if the flat were to be sold within the MOP, and it's fair to say few can be construed as a 'good situation' - i.e. bankruptcy or death. Still this is just pure guesswork on our part, we'd be interested to know how one can sell a HDB flat before the MOP. Anyone?
  18. Heads up. Some central banks in Europe have started weighing contingency plans to prepare for the possibility that countries leave the euro zone or the currency union breaks apart entirely http://www.dowjones.com/products/djfxtrade...feAfterEuro.asp
  19. Date: 16 Oct 2011 Time: 11:00pm Location: Cross-Junction of Jurong East Central outside block 241 (Jurong East Ave 1) Hit and Run vehicle: Dark red car. Driver looked like a 50-60+ uncle; half bald. Car was also loaded with 3/4 other passengers (around 50-60+ year old). The dark red car was traveling along Jurong East Ave 1 and turned left at the cross-junction of Jurong East Central (outside block 241) towards Bukit Batok. The traffic condition was in favor (green man) for my sister to cross. The dark red car made a left turn without watching out for any pedestrian, knocked into her, didn't get off the car to check if she was ok and drove off. My sister had to limp 200m home. She mentioned there was a young chap who witnessed the whole accident. Slim hope but if you are reading this, please PM me. Would like to have at least a car plate number if you remember. I'm irked by such irresponsible driver. If you knock into ANYONE, you MUST stop the car immediately and check if the person is OK. Even if the person says he is ok, you need to provide your contact number should there be a need to seek medical attention. Such driver should be taken off the road. Thank you. [edit] cross junction!
  20. Reviewing of Central Provident Fund scheme Published on Aug 22, 201 By Janice Tai The government is reviewing the Central Provident Fund (CPF) scheme as life expectancy in Singapore increases to 85 and beyond, said BG (NS) Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister of State for Manpower and National Development on Monday on the sidelines of the Ee Peng Liang Memorial Fund Forum at the National University of Singapore. At the forum, NUS alumnus Mr Ng Kok Hoe, who was awarded the Ee Peng Liang Memorial Fund Scholarship last year to pursue doctoral studies in Social Policy at the London School of Economics, presented findings from his research. He found that the number of elderly who are living with their children in Singapore is declining. He said that this finding is significant because living with their children boosted the incomes of the elderly and improved their income security. As our retirement income system is built on the fact that children will provide for their parents and grandparents, he questioned the sustainability of our current retirement income system. In his speech at the forum, BG Tan noted that Singapore is currently meeting the challenges of increasing longevity. One of the ways in which the government is tackling such challenges is encouraging family support. He said that we have schemes such as the Minimum Sum Topping-Up Scheme (MSTU), for members to voluntarily top up the CPF accounts of their family members, especially those who are not working or unable to work. ................................................................................ ................................................................... Siao liao .............. Review can only mean two things. 1. Up withdrawal age from 55 to be in line with retirement age of 62 or 2. Increase minimum sum scheme again ............. maybe set at $1M. Hip hip Hurray!!!!

  22. Central World Destroyed in Fire image link: http://tweetphoto.com/23046959 http://yfrog.com/afff--kj Bangkok's largest shopping mall, the second largest in Asia, has been destroyed by fires. Reports indicate that the fire, started by protesters shortly after their leaders' surrender, blazed on for hours. Fire crews could not get on the scene and the department store's own fire crews were unable to stop the blaze. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Bangkok-Red-...html&st=150
  23. Went to Jurong East Central to NTUC today at 2:15pm. The entire carpark was Jammed up, cannot go in nor comming out. Apparently the exit manual card reader was spoilt, so those foreign cars cannot insert their cash card into the exit barrier reader. (the automatic IU sensor is functioning and singapore cars were able to exit quickly) So all the cars jammed up. For a fooking 15mins the cars were jammed with no wilson personnel come and help. Somehow the exit barrie automatically open for the malaysian car to exit, maybe the wilson personnal just woke up and saw from his security camera about the stucks car at the exti barrier and decided to forgo one car fees. Slowly the cars began to exit and the entry cars were able to move up the carpark. Ok....finally went in can get a carpark at 2:30pm. Shop for one hour at NTUC. Thought the problem would be solved after one hour. BUT BUT The SAME fooking jammed is still there at 3:30pm when I was coming out. After getting stuck for 5mins, I went out to investigate. The barrier area was FREE of cars coming in or out. WEIRD situation? How come still stuck???? Due to the design of the carpark, the incoming cars are tying to move up the levels, while the outgoing cars are trying to move down the levels. So coincidently at that 3:30pm moment, all cars got into the stuck situation whereby non of the incoming/outgoing cars are able to budge. I don;t knwo how to describe it corectly, but think of a oval loop of cars, where all the cars are stuck in that same loop, not moving up or down. No one seems to want to give way or even able to reverse to give way as the cars are piled up. All the cars start horning for the next 10mins without anyone helping with the situation. Finally I was able to persuade a good natured incoming driver to break the Loop of curse and begged him to make a detour out of the carpark, thereby freeing my car and the rest of the cars going out. Thank you for your kind understanding! Feeking lousy design, this particular car park in jurong east central. Buay tahan.....wilson should have sent a personnel to jagar the carpark once they know the jammed has being created by their spoilt exit manua card reader.
