  1. Singapore's decision to cane a Briton for drugs offences was condemned by a former Cabinet minister. London-born Ye Ming Yuen was originally facing the death penalty but the capital charge against him was dropped because the net weight of drugs involved was below 500 grams, the quantity that warrants execution in Singapore. Priti Patel said the punishment for London-born Ye Ming Yuen was reminiscent of the Dark Ages. So UK is now saying their laws are modern and correct? I understand they still have such laws as 'The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the King, and the tail of the Queen' and 'It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down' Maybe she would like to also review them?

  3. Was shocked to see this when going up the ramp at AMK central MSCP . That lady slams the door with both hands at full force as you can see how hard her body sways. I went to check on the picanto after I parked my car, the door was dented and I also noticed that the bonnet was splashed with coffee! Dunno what angered her, but wat she did was really uncalled . Next time see this BMW must siam! I took tis pic after lunch, another car has parked, unable to capture the dent and stains clearly but can see the cup and the stains on the wall.
  4. STOMPer Fatfoodie said a waiter at an eatery kicked away chairs and slammed tables together when the STOMPer asked for another table so that he could accommodate all the people in his group. The STOMPer wrote: "If you are peeved about eating at a place where the staff has a bad attitude towards customers, like as if the customers owes him a living (even though you just stepped in and did nothing to him), this is definitely not the place for you. "I have been to some really nasty joints. But this one bests all. "When we got there, we needed 1 more table to sit everyone. "We asked the waiter to help us join a table from nearby so that we can sit everyone. "He told us that the table we have is enough to sit everyone. When we did a count, he looked pissed (I don't know why) and quite literally, he kicked away the chairs around the next table and slammed the tables together. "He did it as if he wanted to make sure we knew that he was unhappy doing it. Then he gave a sarcastic smile and said, 'Is this ok now?' and stormed off before we said anything. "When we were about to order, we called for the waiter. He happened to be the nearest and when he came over, he literally threw the tray that he was holding onto the next table in a fashion that indicated that he was unhappy. "My Yuan Yang had more taste of tea than coffee so I asked the waiter if this was normal and he brought it back and informed the person behind the counter. "When he brought it back, he informed me that this was how it was supposed to taste, in a tone which sounded condescending. "I was thinking, 'What the...'. "I've had this drink in so many places but none was as bad as this and the waiter had the cheek to inform me that it's like this? "There were many other issues but I think I shall leave it as it is. "I've even informed the young bespectacled manager but nothing was done. "The lousy attitude of that staff kind of spoilt everything."

  9. Pro-S'porean policy in jobs, housing impractical THE notion of a pro-Singaporean policy is noble but not practical. What many policymakers and many well-meaning citizens fail to recognise is that many Singaporeans are married to non-Singaporeans. Non-Singaporeans may, for one reason or another, not be in a position to take up Singapore citizenship. This may be because they have elderly parents in their native country or they do not meet general requirements to take up citizenship. As someone in this category, I find that this pro-Singaporean policy penalises this segment of the population. Over the years, we have contributed thousands of dollars to the Singapore economy, we pay taxes and levies and we have decided to setup of our family unit in Singapore. We have bought an HBD flat and look forward to being proud owners of a home in Singapore. I am not in a position to take up citizenship, as it is my responsibility to take care of my parents in Malaysia. They have chosen their home and I cannot, in good conscience, force them to relocate here. Imagine this. Our flat will be ready only in 2012. Of our two incomes, I earn more than my wife. My income pays for almost everything, including rent (which has increased astronomically). The cost of living has gone up, and even cooking at home is no cheaper then eating outside. Paying utility bills, insurance premiums, car loan, education loans and so on leaves us with just enough to make ends meet. In recent months, we have had to dip into our savings to pay for many things. We used to consider ourselves slightly better off than middle class, but now we are not even in that category. If I lose my job, because I am not a Singaporean, where would that leave us? Consider this as well. I pay goods and services tax (GST), income tax, Central Provident Fund (CPF) and every other payment as Singaporeans do, but I get few if any benefits. I do not get GST refunds; nor am I a beneficiary of any other monetary initiative to relieve the sufferings of Singaporeans, despite the fact that I am forming a family unit with a Singaporean in Singapore.
