  1. SINGAPORE - Several people were hurt in a slashing incident at a mall in Pasir Ris Street 72, with shoppers and business owners running for cover amid the chaos. The Straits Times understands five people were hurt in the incident, which happened on Dec 20 at around 4pm at the Pasir Ris West Plaza. Several witnesses said the attacker was armed with a knife. A Pasir Ris resident, who was at the mall just after the attack, said he saw five people injured near the Royal Regent, a provision shop inside the mall selling a variety of items like phone products, sandals and bags. Four of the victims were seated on chairs outside the shop, while one was sprawled on the ground. “They were covered in blood, and there were over 30 police officers at the scene, including several armed with rifles,” said the resident, who declined to be named. The Singapore Police Force’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers are trained to respond to cases involving firearms and dangerous weapons. ERT officers are equipped with submachine guns, pistols, bullet-resistant vests and ballistic helmets. Another resident, who gave his name as Mr Lee, said the owner of Royal Regent was hurt in the attack. “I saw five people wheeled into ambulances. They were very heavily bandaged, and the injuries look very bad,” added the taxi driver. When ST visited the mall at 6.30pm, police were still at the scene interviewing witnesses. A cordon had been set up around Royal Regent, where socks and shoes were strewn on the floor, with some items covered in blood. An employee working in a drugstore two shops away said she heard a woman scream at around 4pm. The employee, who declined to be named, said she recognised the voice behind the scream as the woman who works in the sundry shop tucked between the drugstore and the provision shop. The employee said she ran, fearing for her safety, and did not see the attacker. According to passers-by, the Royal Regent also provides mobile phone services, including sales and repairs. A plainclothes police officer was seen speaking to a man that other business owners identified as an employee of the shop. His hands were smeared with what appeared to be dried blood. The incident happened at around 4pm at Pasir Ris West Plaza on Dec 20.
  2. TL;DR- Cam car driver posts a video on Facebook trying to get people to side with him because a car “almost” hits him, gets called out for pettiness and trimmed video. East side best side? Sure there’s some good food there (shoutout Wild Olives and The Basil Inn) but there’s certainly a case to be made that the East is overrated. Case in point, dealing with entitled drivers like this one. What happened? A driver in Pasir Ris was exiting the driveway of Pasir Ris St 21 when a Toyota Altis tried to pass a stationary taxi in front of it, forcing the car to go against the flow of traffic and create a standoff with the cam car. After a few seconds of tense inactivity, the Altis backed away a bit and the cam car promptly moved forward as well. The video soon ends. So? The cam car posted this video on Facebook with the caption “PHV vehicle was impatient and filtered out dangerously almost hitting my vehicle. Cutting across single white line and driving against traffic. Tp report had been filed.” It’s giving “Karen” vibes but otherwise it’s a perfectly reasonable complaint. However, the beginning of the video clearly shows the cam car moving forward long after the Toyota has stopped. And that there is still an acceptable gap between the two cars. So even if the cam car was “almost hit”, it would arguably be its own fault. But let’s go deeper. As previously stated, the Toyota had only backed away a small distance before the cam car moved forward (0:16). This doesn’t help the cam car’s statement of “almost being hit” because it’s reducing distance between them and would instead turn the caption into “got hit”. Even if the Toyota was initially in the wrong, the cam car is not helping things. The Clowning Begins Facebook users were quick to ask about how the cam car filed a report for something as small as this. Others also pointed out that it's ok to overtake the taxi as it was a stationary vehicle and the video being trimmed. Suffice to say, the comments were not in the cam car’s favour. And deservedly so. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  3. Some would say that he got instant car-ma for disregarding the rules. In a short clip posted on New Year’s Day, an elderly cyclist boldly crosses a traffic junction when the light is still red. The cyclist then gets a nasty surprise when a white Toyota Corolla crashes into his bicycle. Hopefully, the uncle learns his lesson and will heed the traffic rules from now on. Who is at fault if a driver hits a jaywalking pedestrian? According to the Road Traffic Rules, if a pedestrian crosses any place other than a pedestrian crossing, they shall yield the right of way to vehicles. The same applies to mobility vehicle users, PMD riders and cyclists. However, at any controlled crossing, pedestrians have the precedence to free and uninterrupted passage over the crossing by drivers of vehicles approaching the crossing. It should be noted that this only applies when pedestrians are crossing in the same direction as moving traffic. Pedestrians shall not travel in any other direction unless they can do so without interfering with the lawful movement of traffic. Even though the driver has the right of way, personal injury lawyers have noted that the driver may still be held liable for any bodily injury claim from the pedestrian. This includes payment for their present and future medical bills, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and lost wages. If the pedestrian is found guilty of jaywalking, they could be held partially at fault for the accident. However, drivers are considered more at fault in a jaywalking accident if there was an opportunity to avoid the accident and didn’t take it. While it is tricky to ascertain who is at fault here, the cyclist should not have crossed the road on a red light and the driver should have slowed down when entering the junction. This applies even when the light is green for the driver, as one might not be able to react in time if jaywalkers are crossing. Netizens’ reactions That's right! It doesn't matter if you are a pedestrian or a driver, everyone must adhere to the rules. 😤 When you think about it, it really isn't fair for drivers, even when they have the right of way. It's tough being a driver. 😭 Hope the driver didn't injure himself from braking too hard! 😅 ======== Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! 4. With the relaxing of safe distancing measures kicking in on 19 Aug, 50% of WFH employees are allowed to return to the office. If you are one of those who are still under the WFH arrangement, you would have woken up to a nice cool morning, which is perfect for sleeping in working from home. If you had to go back to the office, well, it sucks to be you. Especially if you live in the East. Why? What started as heavy rain in the wee hours of the morning gradually turned into a flash flood for Singaporeans living in the East. If you missed what happened, watch these videos taken from various perspectives: The flash flood occurred just after Tampines Expressway (TPE) Exit 5, at the junction of Tampines Ave 10 and Pasir Ris Ave 12. What happened? The heavy rain resulted in PUB disseminating numerous flood risk alerts for various locations across the island throughout the morning of 20th August. Here's a video to give you an idea of the intensity and volume of water from today's heavy rain: The flash flood caused a total of 13 vehicles to be partially submerged. As a result of the rising water level, these vehicles could not move due to the excessive water that entered the engine bay. NGL, but I am afraid these vehicles will never be the same again. Aftermath A total of 25 people self-evacuated their vehicles before SCDF officers arrived on the scene, while SCDF officers evacuated 5 other people. The SCDF also conveyed 1 person to Changi General Hospital due to a leg injury. We wish the injured party a speedy recovery!! Netizens' comments Even if the EV won't sot, I also sot from its repair cost. Any SUV owners want to ascertain this? Hahahaha buy already, you dare to bring out and kayak during a flash flood? Driving tip: If you aren't aware of what to do during a flood, don't worry we got you covered. 5. Wild Boar Charges Into Woman In Pasir Ris, She Receives 10cm Long Gash source: https://mustsharenews.com/wild-boar-pasir-ris/ Woman Cut By Wild Boar In Pasir Ris, Said It Sprang Out Of Bush Wild boars are not uncommon at nature reserves and parks. Usually, they’d leave you alone if you do the same. However, a 50-year-old woman had an unfortunate encounter with one along Sungei Api Api in Pasir Ris on Tuesday (17 Nov). She received a 10cm long cut on her leg and was sent to the hospital. Woman encountered wild boar during stroll in Pasir Ris According to Shin Min Daily News, Mrs Yu was on the way home from a stroll with her husband at 9.30pm on 17 Nov, when they encountered a wild boar about 15m away from Pasir Ris Drive 3. She said the animal sprang from a bush to her left and charged towards her. Mrs Yu felt a sharp pain in her left leg when the boar struck her, causing her to be knocked over and fall face down. The animal was reported to be about 1.2m long and ran away after hitting Mrs Yu. The tusks of the wild boar apparently caused a gash about 10cm long and 3cm wide, on top of cuts on Mrs Yu’s face. Mr Yu, her husband, immediately drove her to the hospital, where she’ll be hospitalised until Sunday. Surgery after getting cut Mrs Yu had to go through 3 hours of oral surgery and is on a liquid diet, reports Shin Min Daily News. After her fall, the bones around her mouth sustained injuries while her teeth were pushed inward from the impact. Stay calm when you see a wild boar According to NParks, wild boars may wander into parks, roads, and even residential areas. While wild boars are not carnivorous and mainly feed on seeds and tubers, they may attack when feeling cornered, or if they believe their young are threatened. These native creatures can grow pretty huge, weighing up to 100kg. Furthermore, the canines of males may cause serious injuries if they attack. NParks advises Singaporeans to stay calm and move away slowly if you see a wild boar. Keeping a distance from their young is also a wise precaution. It should be noted that feeding them is against the law, and can be punished with up to a $5,000 fine for first-time offenders, while repeat offenders may be fined up to $10,000. Part of Singapore’s biodiversity While wild boars may be dangerous when provoked, they are still part of Singapore’s rich biodiversity. As long as we give them some breathing space, all should be well. If you do encounter one – or a group of them – during a morning jog, keep calm and carry on. Hopefully Mrs Yu recovers well from the incident. Bring your pokeballs next time also. 😂
  6. A video has brought to our attention wherein a dog was allegedly thrown out of a car. The footage was shared by Veron Ng on Facebook, from her friend's car. 7. New Road Between Punggol & Pasir Ris Will Ease TPE Traffic From 17 Nov source: https://mustsharenews.com/pasir-ris-punggol-road/ New Link Between Punggol & Pasir Ris Will Replace Existing Slip Road For those who frequently travel between Punggol and Pasir Ris via the TPE, you would know the pain of being stuck in the jam during peak hours. Since the TPE is the quickest path connecting the two areas, motorists will often prefer to take that route. But the shortest path has become longer due to the large number of vehicles, which defeats the whole purpose. Good news for motorists though, because the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has built a new link road to help ease the traffic situation. New link road will extend from Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1 According to LTA, the new link road opening on 17 Nov will extend from Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1, providing an alternative for motorists travelling between Punggol and Pasir Ris. Currently, motorists travel between the two towns via the TPE, highlighted in green below. However, with the new link road, motorists can now travel between the two towns on a much shorter path than before. Here’s a video by LTA to help you better navigate the new route.
  8. For some quick and impromptu family bonding and outing within half a day, busy parents, have you considered bringing your kids to a pony ride ? Beats going to the crowded hot zoo, the Gallop Stable is one great place to get to nature and animals. The old premise at Ponggol has come to an end as their land lease had expired and with no possibility of renewal ( god knows why, government future development I believe ). Gallop Stable is now re-opened at Pasir Ris. Do check out this new ranch ! https://youtu.be/5c9N7A5d7XA This video and post has no affiliation to Gallop Stable. This is just a plain sharing post for families with kids to enjoy.
  9. http://eatbook.sg/pasir-ris-central-hawker/ Things to eat at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre New food place to explore. It is advertised as an instagram worthy hawker center served by young entrepreneurs. I would very much prefer simple hawker fares at less exorbitant prices compared to 'hipster' food but if the food is good, it's still worth a try. Anyone been here?
