  2. Hi! Anyone knows where I can get platinum plating service? Purpose is to actually plate the contact surfaces of my distributor to make it more lasting. Then it won't wear out so fast.
  3. Wonder if it's worth changing to Bosch Platinum IR Fusion spark plugs? Has anyone noticed significant difference using these plugs?
  4. Back then, I remember Caltex sells their PLatinum fuel at regular 98 prices. But now it cost alot more than other brand's 98 petrol. I wonder whats the big deal about the petrol? Whats so good about it? Btw, I am still pumping it right now solely because of the SAFRA 6% discount. I can't pump any other Caltex petrol because I need RON98. Btw, I am a farking poor peasant who don't even have a CC. Thus no petrol discount for me. SAFRA is my only discount....

  7. The shell personal card gives 3% discount on top of whatever discount is given at the station. However, as far as I know the citibank dividend platinum card gives 5% rebate, but seems to come with a catch that you need to hit 10k of spending on the card in a 2 year time frame to get the rebate. If that the case, isnt the citibank dividend card a better deal? Did I miss something?

  13. Mobil 1 (M1) uses PAO (polyalphaolefins) as the synthetic basestock. Pennzoil Platinum (PP) uses EOP (ethylene alphaolefin polymer) as the synthetic basestock. M1 is Exxon-Mobil. PP is same as Quaker State (QS) is from Royal-Dutch-Shell (RDS) group. They scaled up their plant to make more EOP for PP and QS. RDS spokesman says EOP is synthesized from ethylene, propylene and butene using a single-site catalyst, and the reaction products from the process exhibit comparable physical and chemical properties to PAOs. Even more, the feed stocks and manufacturing costs are significantly lower for EOP than PAOs. However, some issues exist with EOPs that must be resolved first, of which additive solubility and seal compatibility represent the highest priority. Finished costs are expected to be 20-30 percent lower than PAOs for the 4 and 8 cSt material, with higher viscosities being as much as one-third the cost of a PAO. Initial applications are targeted for high viscosity gear oils and some other industrial oils as well as some premium engine oil formulation. PAO is made from 1-decene polymer. By definition, PAO is Group IV. EOP is Group V which is the same as esters but cheaper! Of course this doesn't mean the performance is the same as esters lah! So if there is no sale and you see PP more expensive than M1, don't buy. If M1 is on sale and is cheaper buy. If both on sale but PP cheaper, buy PP.
  14. OK I have taken out my double platinum plugs for examination and they indeed still look very good for the 20k they have gone except for the fuel additive deposit I've seen. Our Chevies use DIS ignition. It is 1 coil for 2 plugs. There is a waste spark, dump spark or reverse firing. What happens is that the plugs fire twice. Once on the compression cycle and the other on the exhaust (no fuel to burn). What happens on the exhaust firing, the current is reversed. Many people have reported plugs with platinum or iridium only in the centre electrode wears out very fast. You need the plug to have a hard wearing centre electrode and platinum on the side as well to last long. Our ignition system wears down spark plugs very fast.

  17. Hi All, Has anyone used the Splitfire Triple Platinum spark plug before? How's it as compared to stock spark plug? Any performance yield so far? Thanks
  18. Hi, Just want to share some experience with platinum spark plugs. I just changed my plugs to platinum (NGK) and the engine is some much more responsive now. Previously, could not really get the car to pick up satisfactorily in third gear (starting from just below 2000 rpm all the way up to 5000 rpm). Now I enjoy dragging in third! Was considering Iradium but when $ comes in, decided to try the Platinum ones. The tip diameter is 0.6mm versus 0.4mm for iradium. Platinum only cost $26 for 4 plugs while Iradium cost $65 for 4! I would recommend this to anyone driving the ES Civic.
  19. I was doing a little window shopping at a shop selling car care products, than I saw this Turtle Wax Platinum Series Leather Cleaner & Conditioner. I had tried the wax and was pretty happy with the result, so thought of trying out this leather cleaner since my leather seat also getting quite dirty liao . The cleaner is quite creamy in texture, slightly off white in colour and the smell is not too strong too. So with a MF towel, I started working with it on my car leather seat and surprisingly, the dirt stain came out pretty easily and it does not leave an oily feel to the leather seat. Before After When I got back home I took it to the test again and tried it out on my leather sofa which was not cleaned with any leather cleaner for the past 4 years . And again I'm pretty impressed by the result. As you can see from the photo the right treated portion looks much cleaner and whiter than the untreated left portion. So for those who are looking for a 1 step leather cleaner & conditioner, this Turtle Wax Platinum Series Leather Cleaner & Conditioner might be something you want to consider .
  20. http://tinypic.com/lzmty Ongoing discussion here: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultima...c;f=45;t=000063 Not bad at all as you can see. The white part is still there and the threads are the ones that are being burned. But still doesn't justify the cost.
  21. Hi all, I'm intending to purchase a set of NGK BKR5e-GP plugs. Any idea where to get e plugs from? How much do e plugs cost?
