  1. Hi all I'm about to go spray my car and have narrowed down the paint shops to (1) Yew Lip and (2) Advanced Scratch Master. I'm spraying the whole car including bodykit and spoiler. Which one is better in terms of workmanship? Yew Lip is slightly more expensive than ADSM. Thanks!
  2. Anyone knows where can I go to learn more advanced driving skills? Control car during skidding, wet road condition...etc Not sure what is the scope of BMW and Mercedes's driving courses. Anybody has attended those and what is your feedback? Else are they any other/better alternatives?
  3. Hi all, Just wondering whats the best thing to do or rather what are my options if i have access in OA account and still servicing a HDB bank loan. Theres about enough to pay 24months of installments in my OA(cos my house is dirt cheap so installment is pretty low) Is there any way i can make advanced payments or clear my OA to decrease the total sum? If yes, is that a smart move? What else can i do with this access? Thanks in advanced guys
  4. Anyone try this oil before? Any comment? https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorO...l_1_0W-30.aspx#
  5. Hi, anyone tried this? Saw this being "promoted" at Stamford Tyres Lok Yang Branch. As i hung around there for 4 hours, i saw several people buying this and the engine treatment. Claims to increase engine oil life by 4-7 times and increase FC by at least 10%. Any feedback? http://www.mspglobal.com.sg/
  6. Dear all Honda Fanatics, you may read more abt the engine here.. http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=615777
  7. I'd like to learn how to control my car better. Especeially in wet and slippery conditions. How does it feel like when the car starts to aquaplane? How do I effectively regain control? Things of that nature. Also, I'd like to learn what it means to be a defensive driver, and more maintenance stuff on the car. I've changed tyres, and oil, jumpstarted cars by cable, how to check oil, battery, so what else should I know? I'd also like to understand about knocking and pinging (how do they sound really?), more on diagnostic I guess. Maybe I should apprentice at a garage during my free time? I love driving when it rains, the pitter-patter of rain against the roof, music on, and the cool weather. I also do road trips up north and elsewhere, because the journey is the fun part. So, I figure, I should get more knowledge that'll help me better enjoy my hobby. Thanks!
  8. Hi guys. Have some free time before army and im thinking of doing something fun before enlisting. Thot of a racing school. So far found Singha racing school in Thailand. Not sure if they teach lessons in english though. Tried sending them an email but to no avail. Another alternative is the Porsche Driving school in Aussie. Wondering if any bros have been to such lessons, hows the experience like? and also if there are any schools to recommend? Thanks guys.
  9. Hybrid engines work by combining an energy storage unit and a fueled power source, normally a battery and an internal combustion engine. The battery is meant to recapture and store any source of energy produced and wasted throughout various driving stages; for instance the energy wasted during braking. Interestingly, Honda has found a new alternative source of energy in respect of this. The Japanese automaker is currently involved in a research using a Rankine cycle co-generation unit, in which the system works by capturing the exhaust heat from the engine and converting it to electricity. The physics behind this concept is very simple. High-pressured water is pumped into the evaporator and converted into steam by using the heat from the engine. This steam is then channelled into a volumetric expander to rotate a generator and produce electric current, which is stored in the battery pack. Honda managed to successfully defeat the uncertainties on this system, by fitting the said unit into a standard Honda Stream and testing it. The test unit generated three times more electricity than other common systems found in hybrid cars these days. Wah, impressive
  10. Since Jun 2005, Performance Motors Ltd (PML) have opened their BMW Advanced Driver Training (ADT) to non-BMW owners. As you might be aware, the course cost $800 for non-BMW owners. And BMW owners who bought their car from PML pay only $500 (Ya I'm thinking the same thing too, the rich getting richer right) Oh well. You might be asking, why do I want to pay $800 for this course ? 1. You can wreck the car because it's not yours. Plus you get to drive in a proper race circuit with safety barriers and all. (No worries about hidding kerbs... in your own car) 2. You can progress up the drivers training ladder systematically and the training is recognised internationally. Advanced -> Intensive -> Perfection. 3. Good Car-Driver-Instructor ratio. Trainers are certified by BMW Motorsport Centre in Munich. 3 drivers per car. and 2 instructors per 3 cars. You listen to instructors thru walki-talkies. Connected to the car's sound system. 4. Great Hospitality and arrangement. 1 week before the training you'll received the gift/training pack which is couriered to your doorstep. Package include, a clima-cool type of polo T, a cap and training notes. Great Food at corporate hospitality centre in Pasir Gudang. Breakfast, Lunch and Teabreak all included. (Plus point : Food is certified HALAL) Isotonic drinks at every exercise station. Comfortable 30 seater coach transfer from Raffles marina to PG. Covered carpark at Raffles Marina provided. 5. You get to drive a BMW 330i, 3 litre engine with 258 bhp capable of acheiving 0-100 in just 6.6 sec, rear wheel driven. Specially prepared for training, with driving aids and ABS overiding switch. 6. And lastly, You'll LEARN a lot. ADT aims to make you to a safer driver by helping you to develop a balance of attitudes and skills to respond effectively in critical emergency situations , teach you to appreciate and understand the limits of technology and driving skill, allowing you to assess and overcome potential hazards . And of course, it's a whole lot of fun! Many of us ask, how fast can this car or that car get from 0 - 100km/h. Not MANY will ever care to ask what we can do to stop the car from 100 - 0 ?? (well I only remembered Ultravan emphasising on it) This is the important point I learned from this training. It's all about safety. And by the way, all the manouvre was executed not more than 70km/h. So that's should give you an idea that the focus of this training is all about. Some of the manouvres in the course include : Understeering, Oversteering and how to overcome them. Emergency Lane Change, Emergency lane change in a Bend. Brake Swerve and Stabalising the car. The exercises are held at different parts of the circuit. Like the understeer and oversteer are conducted in a proper skid pan. Instructors guide drivers from outside the car, they talk you thru the steps throught their walki-talkies and you hear them through the in-car aux input sound system. To end it all, a friendly competition of time slalom on the front straight of the Pasir Gudang track. I managed to time my personal best of 26.66 secs. Unfortunately I got penalty point for my 1st attempt as I missed the designated stopping area by 2 feet. But I guess my Formula Ford experience helps. It tought me that the important thing is to be smooth in steering, transmission, throttle and braking. It's won't help if you're scrappy trying to be fast. So what's next ?. Intensive Driver Training...then who know's Perfection Training in Nuburgring in Germany. But one thing for sure is that it beats any modification on my car. Driver Modification last a lifetime. How long does a modification on the car last ? More pictures and Videos.... at http://www.hermizan.com/sg/photos In case you wish you sign up for Advance Driving Training sign up at at www.pml.com.sg
  11. from www.grandprix.com >>Formula 1 does not often get much coverage in scientific journals but the latest edition of Nature magazine, the world's foremost weekly scientific journal, which was launched in 1869, featured a lengthy article about Grand Prix racing, entitled "Science in the Fast Lane" which provided a very positive view of the sport. The article suggests that "despite the secretive nature of the Formula 1 industry, the flow of information from aeronautics to racing is beginning to reverse. When Britain's Ministry of Defence began developing the current Harrier fighter jet, the GR.7, it drew on the expertise in composite materials accumulated by Formula 1 engineers" and quotes a Southampton University aeodynamicist Xin Zhang saying that Formula 1 has pushed the science and engineering expertise in some areas "to a level higher than that of aerospace engineering". In Zhang's view, understanding the flow around the streamlined body of an aircraft is "straightforward by comparison". Professor Peter Bearman, who holds a chair in Experimental Aerodynamics at Imperial College, London, says that his last three PhD students have all gone straight to Formula 1 and his department has now trained 40 Formula 1 engineers. The attraction, it seems, is knowing that one can make a difference. "Research in the aerospace sector is static in comparison," says a recent Ferrari recruit Barney Garrood, "with typical development times of 10 to 15 years. This is much more exciting, Being able to point to your own parts on a car - and then seeing that car win a race - is a real thrill." McLaren's new Technology Centre in Woking comes in for special praise from Professor Bearman, who calls the building "a temple to technology" which was designed to inspire the engineers who work there.
