  1. The World Economic Forum in Singapore set to take place in August 2021 has been cancelled. News of the cancellation has already made it to Twitter. A tweet by Reuters Southeast Asia editor said: The World Economic Forum meeting planned for Singapore has been cancelled given uncertainty over COVID-19 variants, travel, vaccines The special annual meeting was scheduled to take place three months from now. A statement on the WEF website said: Regretfully, the tragic circumstances unfolding across geographies, an uncertain travel outlook, differing speeds of vaccination rollout and the uncertainty around new variants combine to make it impossible to realise a global meeting with business, government and civil society leaders from all over the world at the scale which was planned. This is despite the excellent support provided by the Government of Singapore. The statement also said the next annual meeting will instead take place in the first half of 2022. The final location and date has not been determined but will be based on an assessment of the situation later this year. “It was a difficult decision, particularly in view of the great interest of our partners to come together not just virtually but in person, and to contribute to a more resilient, more inclusive and more sustainable world,” said Klaus Schwab, WEF founder and executive chairman. “But ultimately the health and safety of everyone concerned is our highest priority.” It was only reported on May 12 a few days ago that the WEF planned to go ahead with its annual meeting in Singapore despite a jump in coronavirus cases that prompted the Asian city-state to reimpose restrictions and tighten border controls. 5. Wonder why it was cancelled? Any bros looking forward to this biathlon but now has to be disappointed? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1245793/1/.html Singapore Biathlon cancelled as organisers focus on other commitments By Leong Wai Kit | Posted: 03 January 2013 1815 hrs SINGAPORE: The annual Singapore Biathlon has been cancelled - for the time being. The race, which attracted about 2,000 competitors a year, had been around for 12 years and was usually held in the first quarter of the year. Competitors have to swim 1.5 kilometres in the sea and run 10 kilometres. The event was organised by SAFRA and the Republic of Singapore Navy. SAFRA said in response to queries from MediaCorp on Thursday that it will review plans on the event in future. For now, it will focus on its membership initiatives, as part of NS45 to recognise the contributions of NSmen. As for the navy, it has pulled out as an organiser due to increased operational commitments. For many endurance-sports enthusiasts, the Singapore Biathlon sets the pace of their race year as it is usually the first race of the year. One of Singapore's oldest endurance sportsmen, Chan Chan Seng, is disappointed with the decision. Mr Chan, who's 72, had been competing since his 50s. "I'm very sad because I've been doing this for the past 10 years, since they started until last year. Actually, sometimes, it's a meeting place for old friends - so many healthy strong men, from young to old, women, kids, also. It's sort of a family gathering for everyone, actually," he said. - CNA/de

  7. BMW will be cancelling the BMW M3 Sedan when the next generation 3-series, codenamed F30, is released, according to Automobile Magazine. The company will continue to sell the M3 as both a coupe and convertible, with each getting a straight-six 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine producing 450 horsepower (336 kW, 456 PS). In addition, the magazine says that the company will put the 3er Gran Turismo on the market from March 2013. That date coincides with the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The GT will be one of five body styles for the car, including the sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible, all due out between March 2012 and 2014. A shooting brake variant could also be released down the line. Like the wagon, the GT3 is expected to get a long wheelbase providing more cargo space and legroom. A panoramic sliding glass roof may also be optionally available for both vehicles. For the 3-Series, BMW will use four cylinder petrol and diesel engines that are both more powerful and fuel efficient than previous models. Engines range from 136 horsepower (101 kW, 138 PS) to 252 hp (188 kW, 256 PS).

  10. Ok....NTU claimed his scholarship was cancelled in Feb09. Does this mean that he has to REPAY back the disbursed amount immediately? No right? Also the scholarship should have already paid for this final Jan-May semester already. So IF he graduated by May, then he would not have to worry about paying any money to NTU....unless he has to repeat another semester. The scholarship board will have to sue him to get back the money or strike a deal to do installments repayments right? What a waste........I can only imagine the inept and blunt Singapore style of treatment he must have gone thru to do forced him into this end.
