  2. Light weekend topic: Stories of the most clueless car salesman you've ever come across. Feel free to put yours down. Here's mine: I was visiting the AD for a low-volume Japanese brand. Young guy comes up to me and talks about all the luxury features at a budget. Well and good. Then it comes: 'the seats have built-in massagers' 'Really? I can't believe it' 'Sit down sir, and I'll show you'. I get into the driver's seat and he leans over, one hand on the lower right part of the seat, 'Ready sir? Turning it on now' He presses the lumbar support control back and forth. The lower seat back moves in...out... agonizingly slowly..... 'Feel that? Massage!' I said 'that's the lumbar support!' He looks at me and gives me a goofy grin. With a sinking feeling, I realized he thought I was making a crude Hokkien joke. True story.

  5. Having dinner at a a crowded kopi tiam last night, saw a tiny little bably girl stumbling/crawling around unattended as her parents were busy eating there. A diseaster waiting to happen. Within 5 min, I saw 2 lady diners and the kopi aunty nearly fall while trying to avoid knocking into her. Little girl is so short it was easy to miss her when she stumle around the tables and chairs. Cant help thinking what happens if someone carrying hot stuff... say claypot curry fish head .... trips over the baby? Who will the parents blame? Another favourite thing is when people anyhow push/park their baby prams in crowded food places... steaming laksa drenched baby anyone? Sometimes I wonder are parents really so clueless or they cant be bothered? OK... rant over.
  6. Had wanted to post in "NEWS" Section but since there is freedom of speech in his column, I shall post what was deleted over at HWZ forum of the same thread title. The Admin there is biased even though he has said he will not get involved or delete that thread, and when the facts are shown that the 3 Stooges are losing the debate, deletes or banned those that do not agree with them. He is in collusion with the 3 Stooges and condoning Peter Rouse, who has cloned himself as Jonchan66. To the HWZ Admin Vurtomatic: Stop being biased! You are not the ONLY local fitness forum. Hell, HWZ is not even a dedicated fitness portal/forum but a technology/hardware-based website. What a joke! This post hereby fore-warned newbies of the wannabe-geeks there trying to act like certified trainers, giving advise to unsuspecting newbies and earning their money. 7. Hi guys.. I heard linksys router no good, from several of my friends. anyway, i'm using a WRT54g, old model. is it true that a better or more expensive router will have a more stable connection? my main issues are with torrenting. when i torrent, i can;t surf the net, even if the torrent is still working. i have configured port forwarding and all that already. i don't need the range, and i believe my 8mbps connection is the bottleneck, not the router which claims 54 or 100mbps. even if i share with 5 pax, i shd still be having more bandwidth at the router than at the internet connection, mathematically. can any kind soul please spoonfeed me? in simple terms..
  8. Clerk jailed for helping man deposit $1.2 m into her accounts Elena Chong Mon, Nov 12, 2007 The Straits Times A WOMAN was jailed for three months on Monday for helping a man deposit $1.2 million worth of cheques into her bank accounts. Sim Hwei Kian, 30, then withdrew $1.18 million and handed it over to 'Kevin' who had offered her $500 for each bank account opened and a further 0.5 per cent commission for each transaction. After one year, 'Kevin'' also promised to give her $10,000 when the accounts were to be closed. The Singapore Turf Club clerk, who was in financial trouble, agreed. She had earlier posted messages on the Internet seeking financial loans. Among the many replies she got was one from 'Kevin'. 'Kevin' had also informed her that the bank accounts were to receive 4D and soccer bet collections, but in fact, the money had been misappropriated. The four cheques had been cut from the cheque books of ConocoPhillips Asia Ventures and ConocoPhillips International and the signatures had been forged. Sim pleaded guilty to a charge under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act which carries a fine of up to $200,000 or a jail term of up to seven years, or both. On Sept 24, she deposited four cheques slotted under her door into her bank accounts. The total was $1.23 million. Over the next two days, she withdrew the money totalling $1.18 million over seven occasions. She bundled them into bags and placed them at a staircase landing for 'Kevin' to collect. On Sept 25, she withdrew $5,000 for her own use. This amount has been recovered. Her lawyer, Mr Satwant Singh, said Sim was not the mastermind nor did she benefit from the crime. Sim, who had failed her Primary School Leaving Examination twice, had never seen 'Kevin' at all. All she knew was that she was helping him with his illegal football bets.
  9. Transport grievances one hot issue at dialogue session By Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 07 October 2007 2003 hrs SINGAPORE: Transport grievances were one of the main issues dominating a dialogue session held after Transport Minister Raymond Lim's community visit to the Thomson Division. "We don't mind, as vehicle owners, to pay increased ERP (fees). But we are frustrated when we pay the ERP (fees), we don't see any ease of traffic flow on the CTE," complained a resident. The answer? It may be frustrating, however there is no one magic solution but a range of measures adjusted over time as the situation changes. Mr Lim explained: "As a first step, we will do what we call traffic engineering solutions. So if you look at the Central Expressway, we have widened it through the years and only recently we did it again. "What's the problem here? Let's say we widen the road. When we first widened the road, the traffic might improve. When it improves, what happens? People who previously didn't drive on that road, the Central Expressway, will now drive on it. "So, some say, 'build more roads'. Yes, build more roads, that will help. Some say, 'better public transport'. Yes, better public transport will also help. But at the end of the day, you also still need this traffic management, which involves not just the ERP, but as you know in our system, we also have COE." But it wasn't just about the ERP. A whole range of transport issues came up during the dialogue session. There were suggestions ranging from having premium bus services to 24-hour senior citizen concession passes. There was also a suggestion to have the Public Transport Council (PTC) review public transport fares only every four years, just before the elections. But, Mr Lim said: "If we freeze the whole thing for four years - no fare increase - the pressure will say, 'why not extend another four years?' The experience of other countries is that the minute you allow the fare increase to be politicised, that over time, the service of your bus standards goes down. If they can't get these returns to renew the bus fleet, the bus fleet will start to shrink and as the bus fleet starts to shrink because they don't replace it, there will be more and more overcrowding. So the situation gets worse and people will complain." - CNA/ir --------- he's merely lip sync-ing everything we all know and predictable.
