  1. Hi Guys! Have searched around car forums but haven't come across anyone who encountered the following experience yet...and would appreciate if anyone can share their thoughts... A common practice for ADs is to offer 3months/6bids non-guarantee COE packages when buying new car. I believe this means (as all SE will tell buyers) deposit/booking fee will be returned if AD fails to secure COE within 3months/6bids. Main culprits for failed bids are usually fluctuating COE prices or low/unrealistic COE rebate level offered (e.g. Toyota's recent 35K rebate for Cat A savers package). So...what happens after 6 failed bids if buyer doesn't give in to AD's mind games (e.g. top up more $ to secure COE)? Has anyone (or your friends) ever gotten their car's deposit/booking fee returned by AD before?

  3. Running my own business was a tedious affair that eventually went belly up, so was left with no choice but to return to the job market seeking employment in my mid-30s. Attended a few interviews and somehow felt the interviewers were looking down on me for having ran a company which failed. Haven't received any job offers, still on hunt for a suitable gig. I estimated that I lost around 300k purely in opportunity costs accrued from not taking up a salaried role during this entire period, which needless to say makes for sufficient dough to buy a humble HDB flat to nicely settle down already. I realised that once your resume makes mention of you having dabbled in a business venture previously or took up a self-employed vocation such as being a private hire car driver, your standing immediately takes a huge tumble in the eyes of prospective employers; you are deemed much less employable, ie expect to be basically grouped within the same category as former bankrupts and former convicts. Why do I say that? Because its true. In their narrow-minded wisdom they expect a former bankrupt to become bankrupt again, a former convict to return to a life crime, a former business owner to forever dabble in uninspiring enterprises, a private hire car driver to remain a lowly chauffeur all his life. More at Thinking of starting your own business? I failed miserably, consider yourselves warned.
  4. An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMW performing flight EK-521 from Thiruvananthapuram (India) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 275 people on board, was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. All occupants evacuated safely, no injuries are being reported. The aircraft burned down completely. The airline reported: "Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time." According to ATC recordings the aircraft performed a normal approach and landing, there was no priority or emergency declared. Upon contacting tower tower reminded the crew of lowering the gear and cleared the aircraft to land. Another approach reported on tower frequency. About 2 minutes after EK-521 reported on tower, the crew reported going around, tower instructed the aircraft to climb to 4000 feet, the crew acknowledged climbing to 4000 feet, a few seconds later tower instructs the next arrival to go around and alerts emergency services. 6. A Singaporean businessman led police on a 20km car chase when he tried to flee after failing to bribe them on Sunday. In the 11.30pm incident, the 50-year old suspect, driving a Mercedes Benz, was headed to Singapore when he tried to cut the vehicle queue at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex (CIQ), obstructing other vehicles in the process. Two police traffic officers on duty at the CIQ complex then tried to take him to the nearest police station. However, the man then got agitated and refused to cooperate, and offered a RM550 (S$213) bribe to Lance Corporal Awang Mohd Massahdi Awang Abunawas and Lance Corporal Mashri Sedek, said the officers. 8. Now who are they trying to kid? Its obvious that the cable ties idea is given and implemented by idiots at the first place. And is there something such as "special" cable ties? SMRT is a bloody joke to think that such a "quick-fix" solution combined with reduced speeds are adequate enough as stop-gap measures.

  11. If it is left to the two operators, they will not be able to gear up at the pace the Government wants. You need intervention to fast- track that process. If the privatised public transport model cannot meet SG's needs, then can they be nationalised? I think obviously not.
  12. Yesterday, took my car for veh inspection to JIC Ang Mo Kio. When i was in the queue, one of the inspector came and said that my front windscreen, back door windows tinting cannot pass and advised me to remove it before being inspected. He did mentioned that it was done in malaysia and to me personally, the tinting wasn't that bad and it is bit golden tan colour tinting, but not sure how much of light pass through. Since i bought the used car a year back, it came as it is and wonder how it passed the previous inspection. Any advise to try my luck on other inspection centers or any recommendation on workshops to remove the tinting and how much it would cost.

  17. STOMPer birdsama saw a schoolboy cutting his finger with a penknife and writing the words 'I FAILED TODAY' on a concrete bench at a badminton court near Fajar MRT Station in Bukit Panjang. He said: "I took this picture at a badminton court near Fajar LRT Station. 19. TAICHUNG, Taiwan - A Toyota collided with a pillar in front of a convenience store in central Taiwan Saturday as the driver was parking the car, local reports said yesterday. According to the driver, a 36-year-old woman, she was putting the car into park when her four-year-old Toyota Wish lurched forward and hit the store in Taichung County. "The car had stopped. But when I was shifting gears, it lurched forward on its own and the brakes did not work," she said. No casualties were reported, but the driver's mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat when the incident occurred was taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains, the reports said. A Toyota technician who rushed to the scene to check the problem said there would be an investigation into the case, which came after Toyota recalled some 8.5 million vehicles worldwide since October last year due to problems with the accelerator pedal and braking system. Toyotas sold in Taiwan use a different brand of accelerator pedal than the one that has been causing problems elsewhere.
  20. I cannot comment on OCS / SISPEC but I find that it is almost impossible for anyone to fail a vocational course in the SAF. There are people who get OOC because of injury but I have never heard of anyone failing due to sheer incompetence. Is my observation correct or have anyone come across people who were so out of their element they actually got the boot? While we are on this topic, is it true that the most CMI officers end up as RP or MTO?
  21. Hi bros and sis, A newbie car owner here. I was quoted $100.. fair? thanks very much

  23. Investors of failed structured products to know outcome of complaints by mid-Jan SINGAPORE : The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Wednesday said investors who have bought failed structured products will know the outcome of their complaints by the middle of January. Investors had alleged that distributors had mis-sold the products and misrepresented the risks. Minibond investor Ismail Deen was told last week that his complaint is still being looked into. He is one of nearly 5,000 investors who have complained to 10 financial institutions (FIs). Like Mr Ismail, most investors of DBS High Notes 5, Lehman Minibonds and the Jubilee Series notes will get some answers by mid-January. Final checks are being done on some complaints. Shane Tregillis, deputy managing director, Market Conduct Group, MAS, said: "That is to take into account the recommendations of the independent persons and to make sure they have taken into account any investigation findings, and also to check for consistency." MAS said 9-in-10 complainants have been interviewed. FIs have also decided on 80 per cent of the cases, but have yet to inform investors. For clear-cut cases though, investors have already been told of the outcome. The central bank has been working with financial institutions in the past 10 weeks. Mr Tregillis said: "We have been visiting, checking ourselves just to ensure the process, looking at the teams... the FIs have put in place in recent weeks, some of them are up to 100 people." MAS said the FIs will review the complaints in a non-legalistic manner and it will be based on principles of fairness. However, they are expected to take legal defence if the investors decide to take them to court. The central bank also said investors should be prepared to bear responsibility for their investment decisions. - CNA/ms what outcome, no case means no case liao... compensate to those who do not understand the meaning of "investment"? compensate to those who do not understand english at all? then u will see sudden surge of ppl claim dun understand english, all switch to their native language liao compensate to those who "teh gong" and hope to receive some form of compensation???
  24. Have you ever wonder why are the town council allow to have such huge reserves such that they can invest in these failed bonds? Wouldn't it be prudent to put them in fixed deposit. Now I just hope that there will not be an increase in conservancy and hopefully the relevant town council will stand up and answer to us. The best thing that came out of this financial crisis is that we now know how much money the Town council are holding. Who's next???
