  8. By Desmond Ng SOME guys have all the luck, as singer Rod Stewart would say. And one such lucky guy managed to overcome the house odds and walked away with a cool $1.66 million from Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). The French tourist struck the mega jackpot in the casino last Saturday and won the highest amount since the casino opened in February. We understand that he didn't want to have his pictures taken by an RWS staff for their records. When The New Paper contacted RWS, they confirmed that the man had been playing the slot machines in the non-smoking area. Playing alone It is understood that he was playing alone atone of the poker slot machines. He placed a $25 bet and ended up winning the Mega Millions Jackpot, which consists of a number of slot machines connected to a "megamillions jackpot". The various slot machines offer different types of games but it does not matter which machine one plays. The payout can roll up to $3 million, said RWS. It also said that there was another winner who walked away with close to $440,000 after hitting a different jackpot on March 16. This particular winner was playing Caribbean Stud Poker on the tables when he hit the jackpot prize. Mr Tony Compton, 52, who lectures on casino management at the Boston Business School here, said that the chance of winning such a mega jackpot is literally one-in-a-million. He said: "The chances of winning it (the jackpot) are very small and very random. The bigger the payout, the lesser the chances, which also makes it attractive. "Everyone wants to put 50 cents to win $1 million." Mr Compton used to work as a slot floor attendant in South Africa, where he monitored the operation of slot machines. When asked if this jackpot win will put a dent on RWS' bankroll, Mr Compton said it's difficult to say because he doesn't know their revenue numbers. He said: "But from a casino's point of view, it makes for good publicity because everyone will want to win that $1 million."
  9. HI Would like to drive up North but am not comfortable in parking our ride on the main island and take a boat elsewhere (eg. Tioman). Is Pangkok also the same? Do we have to park our car on the main land? Also, would like to know if Kuantan is similar to Desaru or Port Dickson? Have drove to Malacca, KL, Genting, Cameron Highlands, Port Dickson & Desaru before...hence not sure where else are the to go Any other suggestions besides the places that I've mentioned above. Thanks in advance :)
  10. SINGAPORE: Some 4,000 fans of Tom Jones were left disappointed on Friday evening when he ended his concert at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) abruptly after two songs. Callers to the MediaCorp hotline said the concert started at 8.15pm. They said the singer appeared on stage and sang two songs. He then explained that he could not continue as he was not feeling well. One concert
  11. TAXI drivers are making a beeline for Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) these days. But not all of them are there to drop or pick up passengers. Some are there for another reason - to gamble at the casino. The New Paper spotted more than 30 taxis parked at the RWS carpark on a March afternoon. The taxis were from various taxi companies and ranged from ordinary taxis to the more expensive limocabs. Some were improperly parked - one was spotted stationed along a double yellow line, and another just outside lots which were temporarily closed. But none of the drivers returned during the three hours we were there. One who eventually did, a 66-year-old driver, admitted he had gone to the casino to gamble. See nothing wrong He said he could afford to do so since he is retired. He declined to be named, but insisted it was perfectly all right for him to gamble "for a few hours" if he wanted to. Some taxi drivers placed the booking system on a break while parked at the RWS casino carpark. The driver, a VIP member of the casino, said he was driving the taxi "for fun" anyway, and he could use the taxi as "a private car". Although he felt some taxi drivers should not gamble if they have mouths to feed, he said his case was different, as he is retired. "When I feel like coming to the casino, I come. I'm not bothered if I lose money. I'm not here to make money," he said He declined to reveal if he made or lost money that day. Another driver, who only wanted to be known as Daniel, was at the casino with his wife and friends. The 57-year-old declined to say much, except that he and his wife were not "full-time gamblers" and that he was in the middle of his shift. Although his income was "not fixed", he was fine with paying the $100 levy to enter the casino on top of his taxi's rental.

  13. Go to Sentosa and take a look. They want to gamble... I don't understand why. They definitely will not win! They feel their luck is good during the festive season. In the end? On the first day, the House earned $3.5 million. The second day, the House earned $3.7 million... They said, why not open more casinos? No, two is enough.' source http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_492197.html
  14. Can't wait to see the other two hotels especially Spa Villa...too bad Universal Studios still awaiting its license to run... Quoted from http://news.omy.sg/News/Local%2BNews/Story...041-117638.html INTEGRATED resort Resorts World Sentosa will begin opening on Jan 20, starting with four of its six hotels. On that day, the four hotels Festive Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Crockfords Towers and Hotel Michael [/size]will open their doors to the public, the resort said in a statement yesterday. The hotels will offer a combined total of 1,350 rooms and 10 restaurants. They will begin accepting room and restaurant reservations from 10am next Monday, through a hotline on 6577-8899. From yesterday until the official opening, a dry run is being held at two of the hotels, with the resort's employees and their families staying there. But even before this, some concertgoers have already set foot in the US$4.4-billion (S$6.1-billion) resort. Its 1,600-seat Festive Grand Theatre hosted Singapore Press Holdings' series of ChildAid charity concerts over three nights last month, despite not being officially open yet. Universal Studios will be the next to open, and the resort is working with the authorities to obtain approvals for this, the resort said yesterday. It will announce the opening date for the casino, when it receives notice of its casino licence, it added. The Casino Regulatory Authority told Reuters that Genting submitted its application for a casino licence last month. Such applications typically take more than three months to process, as they involve vetting casino owners and managers, casino-industry officials told Reuters. The resort said yesterday that on top of the four hotels, Universal Studios, the casino, the Festive Grand theatre, the Compass Ballroom and 26 function rooms are expected to be open early this year, in the first phase of its opening. The resort's remaining two hotels Equarius Hotel and Spa Villas with another 500 rooms, will be launched after this year, under the second phase. Also to be opened in the second phase are the Marine Life Park, the Maritime Experiential Museum and a spa. The other integrated resort, the US$5.5-billion Marina Bay Sands, run by Las Vegas Sands, is expected to open in phases in April. http://www.rwsentosa.com

  18. Lots of threads about the safety (or lackof) in JB/M'sia. Wanted to start a more positive one - if you need to park your car in JB/M'sia - where is the safest place to park it ? I'd think 4- or 5-star hotels and resorts will have the best security in mind - for both personal safety and the car safety. Their business depends on it. Of course the normal measures apply e.g. park head in, steering wheel full turn, steering lock etc.
  19. 1. Planning to go for another road trip. This time, thought of going straight to Fraser's hill (1 night), followed by Cameron Highlands (2 nights) then on the way back Gentings (2 nights). 2. How about other comparable options, which are just as enjoyable? perhaps a trip to 3 beach resorts? Thank you. Regards,
