Its not just a Singapore problem.
  2. Airline Boss Takes 20% Pay Cut in Penance for Drunk JAL Pilot A drunk pilot has just cost the president of Japan Airlines 20 percent of his salary for a few months. Taking responsibility for the errant cockpit crew member, the top executive at the carrier, Yuji Akasaka, will take home less pay December through February, while Toshinori Shin, a senior managing executive officer, will have his reduced by 10 percent. Both of them had already voluntarily given up a part of their salaries for November. The pilot, who showed up for duty to fly the London-Tokyo route on Oct. 28, was found to have consumed excessive alcohol, following which he was handed a 10-month sentence in the U.K. Japan Airlines Co. apologized for the embarrassing incident and announced corrective measures, including better awareness and training for all its employees. It isn’t unusual for top Japanese executives to take pay cuts in an act of contrition. After revealing improper vehicle inspection practices at their local factories last year, the chief executive officers of Nissan Motor Co. and Subaru Corp. announced a similar move.
  3. My friend was involved in a car accident recently, it was on an expressway when a heavy vehicle swerve all the way to the right lane and stopped for road maintainance. He E braked and stopped in time but the taxi behind could not and crash into him, the impact flung him forward and he hit the truck slightly. Now the insurance company representing the cab refuse to take full liability and only willing to pay 50%, now my fren is stuck becos his car is in the workshop and the courtesy car given to him is not covered under his own insurance. He was advised to pay the excess and claim 1st party and pay for the rental of the courtesy car himself as if he wants to fight the car and claim 3rd party it will be a prolong process and he may have to come out with alot of money. He NCB will also be affected if he claim 1st party. He ask me for advice and I told him I am no expert and will seek the kind advice of the bros here. Thanks.
  4. Hello all, Was hoping anyone can advice on the email address for Mazda corporate HQ or contact. My dad's Mazda 2 under went routine servicing with the agent 3 days ago. While on the road, the car suddenly stalled and water gushed out from under bonnet. After the car cooled, we have noticed that the cooler cap is missing. The car was unable to start thereafter, and had been towed back to the agent. We were quoted 5k for a complete engine overhaul. Obviously, we we highlighted that servicing had just been done hence how could the car gotten into such a state out of sudden. Unfortunately, the agent is unable to give a good explanation and shrug off as wear and tear :( Anyone has such experience and what actions been taken? It is really unfair that the responsibility is thrown back to us while we had diligently sent for servicing etc. If anyone has the email address for Madza public relation etc, do feel free to share too as I would like to write and share with them on my experience and the service (the lack of it actually) provided by it's agent. Thanks!
  5. Can u guys believe wat this doo dah is saying? Unbelievable!!! Stop buying their products. Toxic toy story sparks major scare Supermarkets and major retailers in Singapore are scrambling to recall more toys after a national survey revealed that half of 50 toys available on shelves contained chemicals which can be harmful to children. The survey done by the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) revealed on Monday that 23 out of the 50 toys tested were found to contain excessive amounts of lead and phthalates, a chemical commonly added to plastics to increase durability and flexibility. All of the toxic toys were made in China, and some even had the
  6. Recently this happened in my circle of acquaintances. Girl age 22 gets to know a boyfriend in her work place, and her bf holds a most prestigious job (no prize for guessing both their jobs). Few months later, gf short gun. She then ask bf if he wants to get married or not. BF says he has to consider, then he hinted that maybe it is better not to get married this time round, but to continue their r/s and then in the future then get married, in other words he hinted that he doesnt want her to give birth this time (obviously, means abortion). The girl then told him if he doesnt want the baby this time, then they will break off. The guy then give in, and they finally booked a rom date, somtime in march i think. the guy then broke the news to his mother, but his mother was skeptical about the girl (as expected since mothers are protective towards their own son), and warned the son that she may be using this as a threat to bind him down. So now the son is undecided again, and the girl in question is very sad. What will you do if you are the guy ? If you are the girl what will you do ? As a parent will you encourage him to take up responsibility, or ask him not to risk his future ahead with a relationship just a few months old ?
  7. Hi need some advise badly. My ride was involved in an accident last month and based on the assigned adjustor assessment (Have spoken to them) the likely portion of responsibility on my part for the accident is 10%. What does that mean ? Will my subsequent insurance be loaded ? Given that the other party's car is totalled and my vechile sustain quite a costly repair bill, the total repair cost come up to a large amount and 10% of it easily works out to more then 10K. Should I declare this claim amount in my insurance application should I decide to switch insurance co. This is will likely incur loading for my next insurance renewal. IF indeed loading will be added, I was thinking of appealing against the approtioning as I strongly felt that it is the other whihc is at fault and I should not be penalised for his rash act. Any reply or advise will be appreciated. Regards.
  8. Road safety not the sole responsibility of TP TRAFFIC POLICE (TP) enforcement efforts against heavy vehicle drivers have been stepped up, but public education and engagement remain equally important in reducing accidents. That was the message put forward by Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Education and Home Affairs) Mr Masagos Zulkifi on Thursday's Parliament sitting, in response to Assoc Prof Kalyani K Mehta's question about whether existing punitive measures are effective deterrents for heavy vehicle drivers. Mr Zulkifi said 2,215 summonses were issued in the first 9 months of 2008 to heavy vehicle drivers, more than double the 898 summonses issued in the same period in 2007. He also highlighted that a review is currently on-going to look into raising the composition amounts for heavy vehicle drivers who flout traffic rules. However, he also said that a comprehensive public education and engagement programme is equally important. TP has been constantly engaging the heavy vehicle transport industry, including both fleet owners and their drivers - a "Heavy Vehicle Driver Safety Programme" was launched in 2008 to promote awareness. Road safety is not the sole responsibility of TP, said Mr Zulkifi. "Everyone has a part to play." "Heavy vehicle drivers need to recognise the enormous responsibility associated with driving their vehicles and exercise extra caution while on the roads." He said, "Heavy vehicle owners also have to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and that drivers are properly trained and equipped to drive in a safe and responsible manner." http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Motorworld...123-116697.html I think the MIWs' families have escorts when they cross the roads... That is why such incidents do not really bother them, much.
  9. Just read this in Toyota Club Singapore forum and was wondering if any one here is affected by this? Feeling very sorry and at the same time damn pekchek for the car owners involved Details on this thread here (but you need to create an account): http://www.toyotaclubsg.com/nuke/modules.p...ewtopic&t=23245 ------- Posted: Tue Dec 25, 2007 8:02 pm Post subject: Need help urgently. (Very bad experience) I bought a toyota wish from PI(Pinnacle Motors) 1 year plus ago, as what they recommended i always bring my vehicle to their appointed service centre(Jackspeed) to do my servicing to prevent warranty void. During my first 1000Km and 10000Km servicing this service centre added in a kind of oil treatment for my gearbox. After driving this vehicle for almost 1 year plus, now i having problem on my gearbox. Now their next appointed service centre (Premier Auto Parts & Services Pte Ltd) told me that my gearbox defective and need to be replaced, so i need to pay for the damage because gearbox warranty only cover on the 1st year. The most funny part is the reason they give me is that the treatment which was added in during the 1000Km and 10000Km caused my gearbox to breakdown. That is ridiculous, why should i pay for the damage they cause. By the way i am not the only victim. Posted: Wed Dec 26, 2007 8:58 pm Post subject: Today I went down to their service centre(PAPS) to check what is the outcome, lucky enough I saw a guy who is driving a toyota Harrier also having the same problem as mine., so we are ask to speak to the workshop manager regarding the problem we had.To my surprise, the first thing the workshop manager told me is "ASK YOUR LAWYER WRITE A LETTER TO ME".Wow...that was a very aggressive phase, if those people who can't afford to get a lawyer, then we should let this matter rest?I don't think so because there is law in Singapore. What ever I ask, this manager will reply back in a very simple words "SUE ME IF YOU WANT".By the way I not going against him but I am going against the company and the way this guy handle this problem is by shouting back at you.Until I really can't stand the way he talk, i ask him to talk nicely but the anwser he give me is "THIS IS THE WAY I TALK". Haiz, what kind of manager is that, when a company facing this kind of problem yet he still dare to shout at consumers. After a long discussion, I think this guy can't give me an proper anwser because i don't feel he has the PR skill enough to handle this kind of problem. In the end, i try to look for the manager at the PI head office, haiz another fellow who use a dam stupid comparison to compare my problem. He compare my problem with HID lights by saying if a service centre ask you to install a HID light and been caught by the traffic police, should the PI bear the fine? That was like comparing an apple with an orange. He do not know what he is talking about. But he did know that there are quite a lot of people affected by that additive, so as a PI they should communicate with the service centre who damage my car not me. But he keeps on asking me to approach the service centre who damage my car, so he can wash his hands out of it (I believe). After approaching the service centre, another comapny who do not want to bear the responsible.
