  1. Just responding to the current situation to begin a chat on this. Generally psychiatric illness can be classified into The BAD, The SAD, and the MAD... You can also have a mix of conditions, such as borderline personalities, or a bipolar condition. If one has a serious psy issue, you need treatment by a psychiatrist, who may be assisted by a psychologist. A psychiatrist is a qualified doctor, who can diagnose, and more importantly treat a patient. The treatment can be in the form of words, such as counselling, psychological methods and medical or even ECT: Electroconvulsive treatment A psychologist aids by using non medical methods, such as listening, and active methods like flooding and other ways to help. There are POC (Psychiatric Outpatient Clinics) s to visit. IMH may be too scary or a label for them.... These are Government subsidised clinics nested within the polyclinics. Usually in a quiet corner and they get poly MCs so their bosses won't know otherwise. IIRC, Bedok, Tampines and Geylang poly have it - we had names for them - BePOC, TamPOC and GeyPOC Private help is always available, but it's costly.. but very private. Remember, illness must be correlated with the social context. Eg mediums are part of our society, so a person who claims he / she can talk to the Monkey God isn't necessarily mad. Medications can be taken orally, injected and you also have ECT. Training of a psychiatrist requires someone to take the basic degree, then enter residency for it and receive specialist training. Apart from IMH aka Woodbridge, there is NUH, which has a unit, and now TTSH too. It isn't a glamour practice, but it is needed. Psy illness isn't that uncommon, up to 1 in 150 can have it, just in various forms and at various parts of the spectrum. You can have traits, eg obsessive compulsive traits, eg, checking all your car doors once or twice before you can walk off, but you remain functional, all the way to a disorder, where you can't stop washing your hands, and even end up without skin because of hand washing.

  5. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/australianz/father-and-son-in-australia-drown-saving-tourist-near-popular-spot-the-twelve Father and son in Australia drown saving tourist near popular spot Twelve Apostles MELBOURNE (AFP) - A father and son life-saving team drowned while trying to save a tourist swept out to sea near one of Australia's most famous sights off the south coast, officials said on Monday (April 22). Mr Ross Powell, 71, and his son Andrew, 32, died on Sunday after their life-saving boat overturned in the surf during the rescue of a 30-year-old man near the Twelve Apostles, a series of massive limestone stacks situated off the Victoria state coast. The tourist, whose nationality and name have not been released, had been wading at the mouth of a river when he got into trouble. He was winched from the water alongside a third lifesaver from the boat, who was seriously injured, by a rescue helicopter and taken to hospital, Victoria Police said. The bodies of the Powells were found in the water shortly after. The tragedy has rocked the small tourist town of Port Campbell where the two men came from, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison leading the tributes. "Surf lifesavers are selfless & brave. We thank them all for their service & extend our deepest sympathies to Ross & Andrew's family & friends," Mr Morrison tweeted on Monday. Surf Lifesaving Victoria president Paul James hailed the pair as heroes, and said the conditions had been rough and "not the place to be swimming". "It's just terrible, it's heartbreaking," he told reporters in an emotional press conference of the death of the dairy farmers and experienced volunteer lifesavers. "I understand the boat was operating in a 2m swell, so a very high swell, and we know that it is very treacherous down there... These brave people, these heroes, have gone out to try and help." Ms Amber Griffiths, the partner of Andrew and who local media reported was pregnant with their second child, wrote about her heartbreak on Facebook. "Today we lost two of the most beautiful people to ever exist - always putting others first," she wrote. "The love of my life, light of my life, father of my baby girl. My heart is broken. I miss you Andrew Powell."

  8. Anyone hasnt lost anything before? (PS: Virginity excluded from this, in case readers are wondering) 1 What are the most common things you have lost, and hopefully found? 2 How tormenting was the experience? 3 How did you thank the founder? 4 If you were the founder, how was your help appreciated? I have lost my hp (it was set to silent mode) for a few weeks. Later found it under the sofa cushion coz i napped there and dropped it. Small case. Another case: Lost car remote key. Ended up paying few hundred bucks to get a replacement from AD. Later, about few months after that, found the original key in my jacket which i wore for a wedding dinner and never wore for a long time after that. Few years back, lost my other hp in Kobe local shopping malls. Only realised it an hour later in another mall. Traced back my walk in the few malls i visited and narrowed down to a bench outside a electrical shop. It's a chicken / duck talking thing when I 'asked' the shop keepers in english mixed with sign language about my lost hp. Somehow she managed to communicate with me that i should go to the nearest polis post to check. (my 3-month basic japanese lessons taken before the trip helped a little). She was polite and patient. Managed to walk 10 mins to the said polis post and chicken and duck again with the middle age polisman sitting inside. He was stern but managed to let me know he needed proof i was the owner of the phone it someone ever foundand passed it to him. Suddenly i remembered passing a tourist info post nearby few hours ago and there was a syt who spoke english. Ran over to her for help. She was nice and helpful, spoke to the policeman on phone. My wife had the same desktop family picture on her hp like mine. So syt suggested i show my wife hp and its desktop picture to Mr Policeman as proof of ownership of my lost hp. Rushed back to Mr Policeman who looked bored coz that day his police post bo sing lee. After he took more than a minute to examine wife hp's desktop picture, he then slowly opened his drawer and took out a hp --- it;s MINE!! Later, we found out Mr Policeman had the lost hp in his drawer even before i first saw him and he did recognise my face in the desktop picture. But he just wanted to understand 100% sure the woman in the family picture was indeed my wife! The syt from the tourist info post 200m away was the vital link which explained everything to Mr Policeman and linked everything in two languages.
