  1. CNA news report : NDP 2012 to reflect Singaporeans' love for country By Joanne Chan | Posted: 25 April 2012 1648 hrs SINGAPORE: This year's National Day Parade (NDP) hopes to be a time for Singaporeans to reflect on their love for the country, with the theme "Loving Singapore, Our Home" . And this year's organisers hope to get Singaporeans to express their love for the country, through video or photo contests. The man tasked with running the parade smoothly certainly knows the theme well. The parade's executive committee chairman, Colonel Desmond Tan, said: "From the smallest thing like having a nice breakfast with my family, to the moments I stepped down from a long flight and coming home to Changi Airport, these are the moments I cherish. "But most of all, Singapore is where I'm born, and where I grew up and where I lived out my dreams and this is where my family and friends are." Singapore's 47th birthday celebration promises to be a visual treat, bringing back old favourites, such as the combined school choir, last seen two years ago. Other crowd favourites include the marching contingents, the flag fly-past and the Red Lions freefall display. The parade will also feature a salute to 45 years of National Service. I used to be proud of Singapore, serve my NS with pride, endure all tough training whether in rain or shine, whether chiong 'Peng Kang Hill' or Marsiling Hills, going weeks without bath. Nowadays, hot or rainy weather, training cancelled... So proud to own a 5 rooms HDB flat back in the 80's but now, I am worried for my children whether they can affort a 3 ~ 4 rooms HDB flats, So proud to own a 7 seater car years back but now, feel sad when my oversea friends ask me why the piece of 'Paper' value could have fetch them 2 or 3 2000cc cars in their coutries. A less than 1.5cc car cost almost S$90K ??? Quote what Colonel Desmond Tan, said: "From the smallest thing like having a nice breakfast with my family, to the moments I stepped down from a long flight and coming home to Changi Airport, these are the moments I cherish. "But most of all, Singapore is where I'm born, and where I grew up and where I lived out my dreams and this is where my family and friends are." Singapore is Where I'm born, thats a facts, Where I grew Up, no choice as not born with 'silver spoon' & have to work my way up and lastly Where I lived out my dreams, have too not where to go as I set up my family here. Am I going to get 'nightmare' instead of dreams in coming years? HDB price soars, car price soars, medical fee soars, dental fee lagi soars, food price soars, Uni fee soars, public transportations fee soars (although at a slower pace), my CPF minimum deposit also soars to $131,000/-, age to withdraw CPF going up.... The theme "Loving Singapore, Our Home" , I will try my very best, no promises...

  5. Read this somewhere... Making a point to always try to live simply. I don't need a lot of stuff. Society makes us think we do, but I don't. I don't have a lot of money but I get by just fine. I'm able to pay the bills, eat pretty healthily, get myself a few things here and there. I don't buy into technology, wasting money on iPads, smartphones & stuff that is not needed. I like living this way because I'm rarely ever stressed out worrying if I'm going to have enough money or something. I've made my life simple and never been happier. There're others who spend their lives trying to get the better job title, making more money, wishing for more money, buying huge homes with space they don't use and struggling to pay the house payments. Buying 'new and better' cars, filling their closets with clothes, shoes, buying 'better' tvs. Filling their homes with stuff and more stuff... they've the high when it first happens, then it goes away and they're depressed again. They're always wanting more, thinking the next thing will be the thing to make them happy again. They spend their time on looks. They spend their time trying to keep from being 'bored' by constantly watching tv, stay on the computer, texting, tweeting... I've seen people who can't do nothing for five minutes, they have to take out their phone and play with it. They have no clue how to be alone with their true selves. It is sad what these people miss out on.

  7. The Straits Times Nov 30, 2009 Falling productivity an issue Matter likely to be a key issue tackled by growth panel, say economists By Fiona Chan THE declining productivity of Singapore's workers is likely to be a key issue tackled by the Economic Strategies Committee (ESC) when it releases its recommendations in January. This is a problem the government-led panel - set up to find new ways for Singapore to grow over the medium term - should address, say economists. Over the last few years, Singapore's rapid growth has been mostly driven by a massive increase in the workforce, said Citigroup economist Kit Wei Zheng. But it is clear that growth powered by importing foreign labour is simply not sustainable, he said. Between 2006 and last year, the number of workers in Singapore jumped an average 6.5per cent a year, largely due to liberal immigration policies, said Mr Kit. By last year, foreigners accounted for a third of the three-million-strong labour force, up from only a quarter in 2004.Singapore's economy boomed correspondingly with average growth of 8.2per cent a year between 2004 and 2007. 8. FAS says promoters of Liverpool match breached contract by playing anthem By Patwant Singh, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 31 July 2009 1617 hrs Photos 1 of 1 English Premier League club Liverpool's Spanish striker Fernando Torres (L) dribbles past an opponent during a friendly football match against Singapore's national team. SINGAPORE: The promoters of Liverpool FC's tour to Singapore could be in trouble due to a breach of contract with Singapore's Football Association (FAS). After several queries from members of the public, the FAS finally clarified its stand on the issue of the National Anthem at last Sunday's game. Close to 50,000 fans showed up to watch the Singapore Lions take on English giants Liverpool FC. Prior to the friendly match, the match promoters from Profitable Group, together with the FAS, had agreed that Singapore's national anthem and the Liverpool club "anthem", would not be played as part of the official pre-match ceremony. However, that agreement was broken when the Liverpool anthem was played, following the announcement that the Guest of Honour, Singapore's President SR Nathan, was about to inspect both teams on the field. The FAS said it is shocked and disappointed with the breach of agreement by the match promoters. Deputy General Secretary of the FAS, P Sivakumar, added that the promoters could find themselves in trouble due to other issues, not revealed at press time, as well.

Although its a van, it is still a police vehicle moreover with blinkers on. This wonderful grey RX300 decide to stick to its lane and refuse to give way from Bukit Merah to Normanton. I applaud his action and bravery. Maybe wanna test if the police van got install camera or not.

  12. It had been widely publicised in the press that many Singaporean had been conned in MY over the scratch-and-win scams and still Singaporean still falling for it. I had posted once is this threads of several couples been conned at the car park of Makotar Parade, Malacca in the form of lucky draws & scratch-and win. Its happen again on Monday, this time at a petrol kiosk in Johor Baru. As reported in today New Paper and last Monday Sin Min Daily. The report: His holidays made him poorer by $6,500/-. All because Mr. Zhang, 40, a Singaporean businessman, fell victim to the "scratch-and-win" syndicate. Mr. Zhang was approached at a Johor Baru petrol station (name not given) just as he was about to drive back to Singapore. He said that a Chinese woman in her 20s approached him, asking if he was interested in taking part in a lucky draw. He agreed, thinking there was nothing wrong with trying his luck. He scratched a card that the woman gave him, and it revealed a picture of several cars. The woman congratulated him and asked him to follow her to an office near the petrol station. At the office, a man claimed to be the woman colleague told Mr Zhang that he stood a chance of winning a PDA, a car, cooker hoods, television sets and a trip to Japan. Mr Zhang was told that if he paid RM15,000 ($6,500) for taxes and fees, he would have a chance of winning four cars. Believing the man, Mr Zhang made payment with his credit card. When he scratched the booklet, it showed he had won only four cooker hoods. The man refused to give a refund, saying that Mr Zhang was unlucky and could not blame the company. Paying $6,500/- for 4 cooker hoods...... Its show that the man is either plain ignorant or boh chap attitude as he believe that it will not happen to him. Ignorant is out as he is a businessman and should able to think and make decision. So......... it left to his attitude that misfortune will not happen to him or blinded by the 20s years old ..... Also reported that billions reaped in annual profits as millions of consumers cheated in MY.
