These sort of coding had been in placed for a very long time since the 80s at shops selling electronics items at People's Park.

As long as you don't see a fixed price tag on the product, you'll likely see these codes somewhere.

 

Once the deal is done, the salesman will remove the codes which is on a sticker and paste them on the carbonised copy of the receipt book. This is where their commission is calculated.

modifying the invoice after the fact is fraudulent... even if it means just adding nonsense like warranty charge.

 

back then buying anything in people's park at your target price is like striking TOTO.

unless you misjudged and your target price is way too high and the salesman is the one really (and secretly) smiling inside.

In the old days many of the Mama provision shops also put this kind of words coding on the goods they sell like xyz , fdx, dpx, xxxx .... i always wondered how they read the prices but it must be a trade secret

The buyers when asked to sign on the invoice or receipt, can actually draw a diagonal line across the blank lines to strike them off,

It'll appear in the carbonised copy as well, hence unlikely the salesman can do anything to "add" new items. Unless of course create another new receipt.
