Auto car drivers, please skip the thread

nowadays car market manual transmission less than 10%, but some drivers still like to drive manual car, just curious the reason

Not exactly... most singaporeans like to drive in manual. If you look into BMW european site, Mercedes Benz European sites and many more... they do have the option in buying cars with manual transmission. Only cars like SUV, MPV are more or less in automatic. Even Suzuki APV also comes in manual.... Thats MPV... ?

I wanted a manual car when choosing the Lancer Sports 2.0 and it cost $3000 lesser. For practical purposes I chose auto and it offers 6 gears instead of 5 for the manual. There is paddle shift too for the auto.

IMHO, it is just a matter of time that Manual gearbox will be a thing of the past. Even F1 cars and increasingly high-end car don't use manual gearbox.

I feel Singapore is almost the highest auto car rate on the world, btw heard U.S also quite high

I feel manual car enables me to react faster and better to road conditions and traffic. More involvement as well. Of course, during a jam, abit pain in the .........

For me , I can feel the car more with MT transmission. I know the max speed i can push for particular gear thus, i'm ok with flooring with certain gears.However, for auto, i might not be able to feel the car, as when i floor it, it will go up to gear 4. Thus, for me , it's the demand and control of power.

I feel manual car is most fun when driving in winding roads, one hand steer, the other hand on the gear lever. Compared to an Auto Civic, a Manual Civic is about 1 sec faster in a 0-100 km/h sprint. That's quite a lot of difference.

 

Manual cars can also be driven very smoothly, just as smooth as CVT cars, but more responsive. As far as comfort is concerned, it doesn't loose out to auto at all.

 

I'm just so used to it I never think about the clutch and gear shifts, so even in a traffic jam, it's nothing at all.

My father once got stuck in the causeway jam for 4hrs in a manual. Since then he's very careful bout the timing.

There are manual and there are 'old school' manuals. Where the stick still shifts gear mechanically and is in direct contact with the drivetrain, not the 'electrically assisted' shifts.

 

The Sunny is one, the engine 'talks' to you through the stick. It's a dying breed. Wonder which other cars still have this in their M/T models? Real driver's cars. We should enjoy M/Ts while they last, before the future (Hybrids, electrics, etc) catches up. haha...

With the JB customs slope up all the way...it's a challenge to keep your hands/legs coordination in sync if kenna super-jam.

I drive a manual sirion and I can pace mazda 3 and even sylphy. It just gives me a sense of achievement.
