Not totally true. Depends on sump capacity too. A larger sump capacity affords a longer drain interval.

Of course you can work on your own car. Do it on a private property if you want to be safe.

Think this is the worst idea ever - you don't stay there - you're gonna get a "Hello Police?!" from one of the "concerned citizens" staying there within 15 mins for sure.

Plus most "private property" (think: landed houses) are on strangely uneven/hilly terrain; not exactly the most ideal place to jack up a car and work peacefully on it. Unless you don't mind getting banged in the back by speeding cars along a narrow road with cars parked all along one-side of the private road

Neutral Newbie

Giant selling SHU at $29 is quite frequent and sales can last up to an entire month. The not so frequent sales is at $24.90 or lesd, sometimes only over the weekend.

I think most in MCF are smarter than you think to misinterpret my post like you did.

Think he means to go to relative or friend's condo or landed house driveway to do the service.

Not drive to nearby landed cluster and start changing EO in front of their playground.

Aiya, sorry Boss. I don't have rich relatives or friends who stay in private property. Hence the thought never crossed my mind to go "borrow" the place from anyone.

Any recommendation for workshop bring your own oil change? Asked the ws at caltex upp thomson he's charging $30 now.

i visited them before. yes labor to change is $30 now. in fact most outside workshop charge $30 to $40 range just to replace own brought in by owner. Think now this is the market rate.

I find it cheaper to just visit a workshop to change my engine oil to Shell Helix Ultra rather than buying my own.  The workshop labour charge includes checking of other car parts.  Hence, if the engine oil is $30 per bottle, and the labour cost is $30, I might as well just send my car to the workshop directly that charges around $60.

to each his own i guess. thru DIY you get to learn more about  your car though. Anyway many sg drivers just know how to drive but many also dont know how to maintain their car or know nothing about maintainence. Many just let their money's fate in the hands of workshop.

For some DIY is to save money on material direct purchase, and save travelling to  / waiting time at the shop. For some it is just a labour of love.
