i did.

Ditched my falco and self installed a KDK as it uses a different hook.

Needed to drill new holes and other than that, not too difficult. But one need to be a handyman or else is a no go.

Reason i DIY is because not easy to get  an installer to do just one fan.

Any close up on the capacitor you are talking about, the specs and where to buy these capacitors?

Mine were hard-wired, not soldered. Bought the capacitor on eBay.

has anybody tried to do a self replacement of a fan in their own home

how safe actually

I fixed 2 for my own flat. One used the new bracket but the other i decided to use the old Asmaco bracket as its much sturdier. Had to lathe down an aluminuium rod into 2 diameter so that it could fit into the different tubes. Now the modified fan is running sturdier without a wobble even at maximum speed.

I replaced my 2 hall fans last month as the existing KDK fans were cheap type and had metal blades that were corroded and looked unsightly.

Bought the replacement fans (KDKW56) from Lazada and installed them myself. If you are replacing an existing fan and have a ladder available then its an easy job as you just hang the new fan on the existing mounting point. The wiring is no harder than wiring a plug. Need to remember to also attach the safety wire. Took about 30 mins per fan and saved me $150.

Actually the only hard part was scrubbing the ceiling to remove the black circle left by the old fan.... New fans are stronger wind and much quieter due to the fibreglass composite airfoil blades which also will not rust.
