I have a couple of DC ceiling fans at home. Although not Fanco, but neither of them do like what you said. I suggest if you pass by any appliance store that sells Fanco, have the sales turn it on for you to see if they do the same thing.

I have the video clip ...... I’ll send it to the agent to check it and if required ask them to arrange checking

Reviving the old thread........ Got this Fanco brand  DC ceiling fan to replace my old trusty Liberty ( i think made in USA back then - served me well for 25 years ) but the blades cracked

What I find strange is the fan first like rotates slightly counter clockwise for about 1-2 seconds like a jerk and then jerks again (like go ahead gostan) and will finally spin normal as expected

Is this the way this fans work ??

Yes my fanco DC fan rotates backward slightly before spinning off as well. But  i have another brand of DC fan does not have this behavior.

Turbocharged

My acorn DC fan does the same. Like that since day 1. Used for more than 1.5 years. Going strong.

My other kdk fans (think not DC) do not do the same as the DC. But due to design issues, some plastic parts are creating noise.

Will change to acorn if the kdk dies.

Supersonic

Seems like there's some kind of electronic problem with pcb. DC fan shouldn't do that. They are spun by a rotating magnetic field generated by the pcb.

Perhaps some components inside is not working properly and cause a temporary reverse in field starting up.

Turbocharged

Mine has same movement pattern as ct3833's. Only difference is that the backward movement is less.

What make / brand was this ??

It is Jantec, I checked another DC fan out, it does not have this behavior. Anyway this one has been working, it didnt bother me.  I still have  many AC fans, wanted to replace them all to DC but have been procrastinating  because of the $ involved. 😂

Well if the ac fan is working fine. Leave it. Unless backside itchy. Double you see much power savings by replacing.

why would u change unless it spoils?

Minimal benefit. It's not like u switching on every fan for 16 hrs a day.

Yours quite long lived. I haven't even heard of people buying AC fans for the last 10 years. Unless it's like for commerical purposes.

I also bought a Fanco recently, like the design. It has the same behavior and works well after the initial startup. Strangely it has the forward/ reverse button on the remote control, though I don’t think I will ever want it to blow in the reverse direction.

More for when you have the Aircon on and want to circulate the cold air but without the direct draft of the cold air blow down from the fan.
