i just got my 2nd car 2 weeks ago, its my 1st time dealing with 2nd hand car dealers.

locked down on 1 subaru, no test drive given, reason being car is parked very inside and we can go for test drive after we agree the price. during negotiation, keep complaining my car worthless if trading in.

i decided not to commit as i don't feel comfortable.

locked down on another subaru by another dealer, salesman was friendly and and ask me to go for a test drive even though i told him i cannot commit, test drove and was happy. told salesman i need to think it over and left.

1 week later, went back to salesman and requested to send to a pro-subaru workshop for pre-sales inspection.

while the salesman was agreeable, his boss was not, and he told me he would rather send to Motor Image, STA or even AA but just not those pro-subaru workshop i mentioned as they always come back with major items to replace and he suspect buyers work hand in hand with workshops to fight for a bigger discount.

and yes, he rather not close the deal with me if I insist.

after talking to my previous car mechanic, i decided to go for a 2nd test drive to see if there is any problems, especially gb.

salesman was agreeable and i was again happy with the test drive. wrote down on pre-sales agreement to send to Motor Image for inspection and sales will be forfeited with deposit returned to buyer if it doesn't fulfil several conditions.

at the same time, fight for a bigger discount by telling dealer i will go outside workshop to replace all wear and tear items out of my own pocket and will not hold them accountable as long as its not big ticket items such as gb, turbo, aircon-compressor, engine, accident-free condition.

Motor Image report was good, I got the discount i wanted and i send to the pro-subaru workshop after the sales to do a major 80k servicing and was glad when the mechanic told me my car was good.

Lol, buying a car and buying a durian difference le. If buy rotten durian still can throw away easily. But if buy problem car difficult to throw lo.

You try calling SVTA at 6743 0269 & ask for their honorary secretary Raymond Tang (plse speak hokkien, his command of English is passable only). Maybe he can pass on some credible used car dealers contacts though I believe, no many.

Hi Bros ..

would like some feedback from you guys..

Just bought a second hand car .. collected yesterday .. car wise is ok.. issues i raised with dealer was settled promptly .. like my compressor is spoilt, they asked me to go their workshop to change a new compressor .. etc.. only remaining thing is the bad vibrating during idling..

The thing is.. they took in my previous ride and last night, the dealer msg me to tell me my car gearbox got problem.. difficult to move off after jam brake and hard to accelerate from gear 2-3 etc.

Dealer did test drive my car when i went to view theirs during neg. Everything was ok..

He asked me if there was any jerk when i shift to reverse mode or Drive mode, i told him honestly, i didn't feel the jerk .. he tried it again on the test drive and said nothing else.

I explained to dealer.. i maybe "dead flesh" as i travel to wok by CTE every morning.. jam all the way.. then i usually travel by KPE during the day and evening..which has a speed limit of 80KM.. so i don't have the opportunity to high REV ..

Question is .. now dealer ask me my old car gearbox got problem .. he ask me how.. wat can i do?

thanks for the feedback in advance.

U bought the used car from this dealer..if car were to give u prob few weeks later, will u go back to him n ask him to resolve? I tink the best method is to request to send ur old ride to a neutral workshop n get it diagnosed. if indeed got issues with gearbox then work out something with the dealer that will benefit both parties..if tis particular dealer is crap then probably don't bother, but if itz a good dealer then he deserves fair treatment..cheers

Tell dealer this:

Why you telling me all this?

You need to understand this, dealer buy the car as "it is" from private seller. They tested it and offered a price to buy, it's their own matter after they take delivery.

Hahahaha! This the guy who always predict COE will rise and the best time to buy car is now? It's like asking a politician to tell the truth... Good luck with that..

Just go by black and white. What is written on your contract? Was it stated that your idling problem must be fixed? Was it stated that your trade-in car price is as-is?

wat contract? just a piece of paper to state trade in price.. then selling price of the other car.. then got this sentence : At the time of handover, the seller undertakes to preserve the condition of the vehicle as at the time of sale and with all accessories intact.

Now dealer says. total cost $1550 .. gearbox 1400 plus labour 150.. zzzz.. i ki qia..
