Referring to this article,

http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/premier-increases-flagdown-fare-for-three-cab-models-from-320-to-360

"While taxi fares here have been deregulated since 1998, firms are expected to notify the Public Transport Council (PTC) before any revision. The PTC said it was informed by Premier on Jan 14, and it is the only cab firm to notify them of any fare changes so far this year.

Under amendments to the PTC Act, parts of the taxi fare structure, such as unit rates and surcharges, are now standardised to reduce confusion. As harmonising flagdown rates may lead to higher charges, firms are still free to decide them."

So what type of governance are you looking for? The taxi company are also increasing fares as and when they like, they just need to inform PTC... This is called governance? I think Uber / Grab has no issues with this kind of governance.

Got governance and No governance is totally different.

got governance doesnt mean it is effective.

its akin to a placing a security guard to protect the vault vs leaving the vault open.

your question is more of if the security guard is of any use as a prevention.

For a start, think Ang should stop complaining & blaming others like Uber etc...

For years they have introduced more & more charges till takes a Phd to remember all the additional charges..

Bear in mind the way these charges will drive the behaviour of drivers to maximise their earnings ! These accounts for the drivers disappearing act as they seek too to optimise n work smart !

This is time for taxi company to relook their high cost model n perhaps ditch the system. But they might not b willing to slaughter the scared cow & they high pay ! So they have to rely on ah kong protection !

Think drivers also welcome uber as lower cost base, & more earnings.. Consumers benefit by price war & cheaper fares !

Gd thing this happens !! :)

Never taken uber, never will. The bad publicity and the questionable usage of "surge" pricing is a turn off to me.

same with me. Don't like the idea that I could be fetch by some  aged 20 something drivers. I just do not feel safe with them.

Also, why should I support them when they could be the ones raising my COE prices? Furthermore, assuming if one day taxis got diminished, how can we then able to get a cab off the road? I don't wish to press apps all the time for a simple thing like getting a hired car.

support uber because taxi service sucks big time and its time for time to wake up their idea.

but the 20% cut from fare is cut throat. [knife]

SG should seriously consider privately-owned taxi (real one) again with the apps now.

Main reason is uber cost of rental vs Taxi is much lower ! Drivers will switch to uber and the only those highly paid taxi mgt cant survive & close shop.
The drivers can still drive under Uber with lower rental cost, lesser restrictions n hopefully a better life :)

I want to support, but their operandi of cutting 20% of fares from hardworking drivers does not gain my support.

I am actually ok with an old uncle, at most they drive really slow which can be annoying. But talking crap with them is quite fun.

Anyway, I never have had any bad experience with cabs. Normally I call them through the hotline number and they arrive pretty promptly. Of cos, peak hours will be harder to get them, but that's expected.

I'm sitting on the other side of the fence. Since i started using Uber i've not used regular taxis. I've encountered no issues with the Uber drivers, be they young or old. Can't say the same for my experiences with the taxi ah laos.

The surge is transparent. Willing buyer & willing supplier.

Unlike all the taxi surcharge.

Got bad publicity in Singapore?
