Explosions and gunfire rocked Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Tuesday evening, with the country's justice minister reportedly saying that at least 10 people were killed in the attack. Multiple injuries have also been reported.

A Singaporean currently in Istanbul's main international airport spoke to AsiaOne about what is going on there after the explosions happened.

News reports said three suicide bombers opened fire before blowing themselves up in Ataturk airport. Over 30 people have been killed and more than 145 wounded.

 

 

 

Gullnaz Baig, 31, was on a Turkish airline flight from London that arrived in Istanbul when the explosions happened.

 

She didn't see the explosions but the flight was grounded due to it. The plane landed at Ataturk airport around 10.20pm Turkish time (3.20am Singapore time), said Ms Baig.

Ms Baig told AsiaOne over Whatsapp: "A few guys who landed a little before us said they heard explosions. The actual attacks happened close to the main entrance of the airport international terminal. We've all been stranded here since."

This aloha snackbar seems like a headless chicken running around and dropping his AK too! damn amateur...

 

This shooting seems not well planned and they were looking for targets of opportunity rather than specific targets..? ultimate end game is chi ba boom! and create international incident to draw attention away from their Syria & Iraq ground losses to these airport bombings..  

 

There is no safety net before the departure gates, and the soft open areas are susceptible to incidents like these.. everyone needs to be extra vigilant to help one another.. the cops cant be everywhere everytime to prevent another of this type of boom!

Bangladesh siege: Twenty killed at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka

 

Twenty people, said to be foreigners, were killed during an attack by suspected Islamist militants on a cafe in Bangladesh, the army says.

Gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery cafe in Dhaka late on Friday before troops entered almost 12 hours later.

Six of the attackers were also killed and one was arrested, a government spokesman said. The attack was claimed by the so-called Islamic State (IS).

Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi confirmed Italians were killed.

He offered condolences to the victims' families and, referring to the attackers, said: "Our values are stronger than hatred and terror."

Italian news agency Ansa said up to 10 Italians may be unaccounted for. The Italian press said many of those dining at the cafe worked in the garment industry.

Although the army said all 20 killed were foreigners, there are unconfirmed reports that at least one Bangladeshi national was among the hostages killed.

"My government is determined to root out terrorism and militancy from Bangladesh."

Bangladesh's Daily Star newspaper said the gunmen tortured anyone who was unable to recite the Koran. They provided meals overnight for only the Bangladeshi captives, it said.
