inlinesix Hypersonic June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 One common rule that I always tell myself, give way to ppls who are aggressive on the road...let them win, no point to challenge them. We wouldn't lose a Kg of meat if they win. And for those who always say submit video to TP & blah blah, I assume you will be 100% error free on the road if not there will be also ppls watching you & submit your wrong doings to TP & etc. In short we call it karma. I still say submit the video to TP. This kind of instructor is 误人子弟. Driving instructor needs to hold a higher driving etiqutte than normal ppl. Otherwise, 误人子弟. Dick move by the cyclist. Keep the fark to the left if you're slow because that's the rule of the road. The driving instructor is a bigger dick head lah. We gonna have another inconsiderate driver on the road because of him. ↡ Advertisement
Phillim 3rd Gear June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 I'm a motorist and also a cyclist, In this situation... Instructor Kayu: He let/instructed the L plater to horn in a not so acceptable manner, he should know the road rules better than anyone else... he should also know that on the roads... one must practice patience and courtesy more to set a good example, losing these two traits on the roads often lead to undesirable situations. Pink Rider Kayu: Trying to make the situation worst by provoking the car... should have just kept to single file and let the car past instead of trying to exercise his rights and show it... whether two abreast on whatever carriageway, would it hurt to just let the car past or signal to let it past. There are also hand signals for cyclists on the roads to practice safe road usage. Camera Rider also Kayu: Trying to record down the whole incident and make a statement, rules and regulations are just that, rules and regulations, to use them, one also needs when to be flexible with them. If everyone wants to exercise their rights, then we'll have more videos like this here telling the whole community about such trivial matters which could have just been much easier if people just let it rest. Learner Driver, to not be Kayu, you better learn from all the Kayuness that you encountered here. And as a cyclist myself to other cyclists, we cycle to exercise and enjoy the surroundings and have better discipline in both mind and otherwise, why bother over such trivialities. I shall now go back to my lotus position and meditate "hooooommmmmmmm......"
Alheych 6th Gear June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 (edited) Speaking as a driver with very little experience (just over 5 years), I think it would have been very easy to overtake. But I completely understand why the consistent honking came about. I failed my first attempt (at BBDC) because of a similar situation. I overtook a bicycle (of course with much more allowance than the car in the video), but I didn't honk. The examiner then said this was dangerous and gave me 8/10 demerit points (can't remember) straight away. That was the end of my test because I accumulated >20 due to this single incident. During my second attempt I just honked at anything remotely hazardous. The examiners seem to like these things. As a L-plate, the more kiasu you are, the safer you demonstrate yourself to be. The learner probably wasn't confident enough to overtake anyway. So, in conclusion, although it's easy to judge through the lens of a full-fledged driver, things are very different from the perspective of a learner. At the whim and fancy of crusty, old, codger examiners who are easily startled by sudden movements (except for the emergency brake test, which they enjoy), learners can only learn to play b**tard. As for the cyclist... if he not scared I also got nothing more to say. Edited June 30, 2014 by Alheych
Fcw75 Hypersonic June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 Regardless of who is at fault, if there's a collision...the cyclist always lose. So why want to be garang? Protect yourself.
BabyBlade Internal Moderator June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 Aiya go watch World Cup la. Once in every four years. This BBDC vs Cyclist incident we see it all the time on the road thesedays. Xers007 Supercharged June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 lol "overtake lah"... but there is a bunch of them (if they are spread out over a distance) and how to overtake all when the car is going to make a left turn soon with a L-plater in control... regardless of what to brake check ppl is so wrong comparing to honking none stop... seriously the instructor might have to brake for the student during the brake check if not the cyclist might have gone under and at the back of the 1st car there are more L-platers which might cause a chain collision... OT a bit but still related to cyclist on the road... sometimes i really pity those bus driver.. how many time will they have to overtake a cyclist as the cyclist will overtake the bus when it had to stop to drop/pick passenger and then get overtake by the bus again...imagine if they are travelling along the same road for a few km... Sabian Turbocharged June 30, 2014 Share June 30, 2014 It's a 3 lane road. Cars do drive quite fast these days. All you need is a dreamy/ distracted driver who rear ends into the learner vehicle and the rider's parents/wife/kids will have a lot of pieces to pick up. Find a safer platform to prove your point. Ender Hypersonic July 1, 2014 Share July 1, 2014 I really watched the video this time. I think the pink guy is overacting & dxxx head. On the other hand, learner in Germany has to be able to drive on Autobahn. Our learner don't even learn how to switch lane. There is something wrong with the syllabus. Rarely see you on this side on the fence.. Give you points.

As for the cyclist... if he not scared I also got nothing more to say. Hmmm... there is two schools of thought on that - many years ago, there was a police advisory in the paper actively discouraging people from honking at YOUNG (i.e children) cyclists. The belief was that a "honk" could startle them and cause them to wobble and fall off. When you look around - some people say it is good to honk, others say that it is dangerous. Personally - I believe that as the one "behind" the car doesn't need to honk - if you need to "warn" the cyclist - you have the control to do something such that the cyclist doesn't need warning (whether that be wait, go to the next lane or whatever else) so honking is dangerous. And if the cyclist is already "following law" - honking is just intimidation (yes, I have been honked when all the way to the left etc, and yes, I found it intimidating)

The_Bear Turbocharged July 1, 2014 Share July 1, 2014 I'm posting this from my phone so will be brief. About whether the cyclist would've yielded on gentle honking- yes that's speculation but it's supported by the indignant argument from the cyclist that the car could've overtaken safely. The point about respect is even more hypothetical and tangential. Suffice it to say that neither the instructor nor the cyclist acted particularly respectfully or graciously here but it was the cyclist's actions that penalised the largely innocent learner driver. It was also the cyclist who had the greater latitude to have changed how the scenario played out but chose to do nothing helpful. That's really all I have to say about this for tonight. If this is brief, I hate to see what it is when you have an opinion This is a scenarion where everybody is right but the result is not. Maybe if they are not so anal about being right, the result could be more positive.
