Bluepica 4th Gear January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 Happy new YEar! I got 3 radio clocks (those plug into wall supply) of different brand at home. Everytime after tallying the time with my handphone, few weeks later 3 of them sure go faster than the actual time. Even the radio clocks at my cousin's home also behaving the same thing.... it can go as fast as 20mins from the actual time. Anyone have the same problem? Is it cause for the supply frequency of our wall outlet which should be 50hz right? ↡ Advertisement
Ender Hypersonic January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 It's normal that clock or watches are not as accurate as the phone, which is sync to a time server. Eve normal Casio quartz watch are spec at +-15 or 20 sec per month.. But the one that is 20 mins off after a few weeks, is not acceptable.

Watwheels Supersonic January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 Same problem for my old alarm clock. It moves so fast it's 30mins faster after a couple of months and I have to recalibrate it. I got feed up and use my Android phablet. It can set to go off only on weekdays and not on weekends. I only set it once and hardly have to touch it ever since except for the last two weeks where PH is in the mid week. It's alot more accurate dan any digital alarm clock that I had before. I dont believe in fengshui/old wives' tale etc but if all 3 clocks are ticking fast, there might be somethings to take note of. As someone might just say, time's up. Gnahp Turbocharged January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 AC main powered clock timing is not quartz governed, they count 50Hz from the mains supply and equate that to 1 second. The small error in the 50Hz signal will accumulate over time and gives an inaccurate time display. I bet the $3 IKEA battery powered clock is more accurate than the clock radio because the timing circuitry is governed by the quartz oscillation which is way more accurate than the Singapore Power 50Hz signal.
Kb27 Supersonic January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 I think the clock depends on the weather. Hot and it runs faster.
The_Bear Turbocharged January 2, 2015 Share January 2, 2015 Radio wave clocks are the in thing in Japan right now but sadly we do not receive the signal in Singapore. http://www.seikowatches.com/support/ib/pdf/SEIKO_7B26_E.pdf
