Solar Turbocharged January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 GG liao loh... game the system in our own country... and also dunno Y over in Sg.. HR can be staffed by foreigners 1... like asking 4 it... but root of problem is still the leg open wide wide policy... plus little and no scrutiny/ QC of foreigners coming in.... Imo the quota should extend to executives as well, not just s-pass blue collars. Pay that guy over the s-pass limit and woala, the system is bypassed. There are many eligible locals got sidelined. It is now not due to lower pay, but political, ie own countrymen taking up key positions. While we need talents, and there are real foreign talents, the situation is no longer like 20 years ago where the local population was weak in skills, be it management or technical. We don't really need that unchecked amount of talents and executives now. ↡ Advertisement

Janling3 6th Gear January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 Don't be surprised if it is not unique to TTSH, if you look carefully, most hosp it already 60% or more FT. MOM will come out and tell us the same old thing: - No one want to do the long hours jobs so we need to import FTs. And yet we spend millions of dollars to import FTs and trained them to be nurses and doctors through scholarship, sponsorship etc... Then the never-ending debate on salary will come out as well... salary so low, long hours etc etc... As I had been advocating, import FTs is the simplest, fastest way to increase GDP else how did the gov managed to be the MEDICAL HUB within a few years? Our citizens were so focus (brain-washed) on earning "big bucks" by doing white collar jobs... Well, the future is now on our hands... do we want to end up 2nd class in our own country? But can we do these "long hours" jobs (nurse, retail, etc)? If we want, we can. Shift out from our comfort zones... believe once again on 行行出状元, 简单就是幸福 What I understand recently. Having so many new Chinese-speaking new citizens and PR, our government is recruiting nurses from Taiwan, etc to be trained and employed here with much better take-home pay than their home country. These batches are expected to stay and care for the growing new Chinese-speaking new citizens on top of our own aging population as well.
Kamani 3rd Gear January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 i go poly clinic see doctor, dont see many pinoy leh TTSH really got so many? suddenly, like that think, a bit hard to believe Polyclinics nurses seem always like local ones and more elderly (senior) ones (meaning I have seen them there for like over 10 years since going there) and no shift work and most of the patients are mobile or being followed by a maid or family members, I guess but at SGH/TTSH/CGH/Alexandra or even the private hospitals maybe because of shift work and more demanding nursing care like nursing patients whom are not mobile and the demands and temper of the patients can be quite humiliating to them- Some how the pinoys seem quite not disturbed/ affected by them; I was admitted once for only a day and there was this old man whom just would not take his medication- spoke perfect fluent English and demanded that the doctor be there everytime when the nurse gives him his dose & kept the other patients awake too at night with his antics to attract more attention from the ward nurses at his whims and fancies; Best part - he slept like a baby in the day hours; Just sharing my 2Cents of one day stay

These batches are expected to stay and care for the growing new Chinese-speaking new citizens on top of our own aging population as well. The government are recruiting everywhere, offering sponsorship to bring them to Singapore. This is done through MOHH, some of the hosp will do their own recruitment but majority managed by MOHH (http://www.mohh.com.sg/about_mohh.html). The healthcare sector in Singapore is another industry which is short of staff including nurses, doctors, radiologists, physiologist etc. But it would be difficult to stop, healthcare is vital to everyone...
