Porker Turbocharged February 17, 2016 Share February 17, 2016 On a serious note and on the topic of loyalty to a company... Been in my current workplace for close to 6 years, even longer if you consider it's a place i rejoined after having left as a junior designer many many years ago. Wanted to try out the agency life, so i did and managed to rise to AD level in a couple of years. Life in agency wasn't so rosy, stress levels shot up and health went down, so i took a hiatus for a year. Believe me, back then, there were a few times i will wake up in the middle of the night thinking i'm late for work... But life has a way of making things work out, as my previous boss (who is an awesome boss btw) reached out to me and after getting me on as a freelancer, hired me full time after my freelance contract ended. I have stayed in the same company ever since, pay is decent and while my peers in the same line can easily make more $$$, i value my time a lot more now. In an industry where long hours and weekend stand-bys are the norm, i get to go home on time everyday and spend time with friends and family instead. And I don't dread going to work. And this i realised "work/life balance" was what i really wanted in life. So if a job why not? A few have questioned me why don't i leave for "greener" pastures and truth be told, at times, i did question myself too. With my experience, why not leave for more $$$ elsewhere. Adrianli Hypersonic February 17, 2016 Share February 17, 2016 So far i only went for a 2 interviews in my life... before the roles switch and i become the interviewer... mostly to students wanting to work part-time.. After interviewing/talking to quite abit of those born in the mid to late 90s. I cringe for our next generation. They're really like what i call Tofu Generation. Abit hardship (like standing for 4-5 hours straight) also cannot take it. Reminds me of my part time job at Sports Station. 11am to 9pm of standing @ $3.5/hr. 9hrs of standing!!! Abit hardship (like standing for 4-5 hours straight) also cannot take it. I do agree that the next generation differs greatly from ours, not all traits are bad thou. Positives points includes more exposure, better dressed, articulate and generally tech savvy. Things to frown upon includes lacking responsibilities, ownership, wanting immediate gratification and some of them are so full of themselves. Recently, I was recruiting new hires to join my desk and I interviewed this guy (let’s call him G cos he looks like Garfield) G was late, very late, and he didn’t call up beforehand nor did he apologise when we met. The reason why I tolerated his tardiness was because my team was facing a huge manpower crisis and he appears stellar on paper. I can hardly believe my eyes as he started putting on his tie AFTER I came in !! I am totally fine with his attire, being in a tailored suit sans tie, but this gesture was downright rude, as if his father own the firm!! No etiquette as well, didn’t bother to stand up, introduce himself and shake the interviewer’s hands. G simply sat there, slightly enlarged both his eyes giving me the “let’s start shall we” look. I lost interest in G immediately. Not wanting to appear unprofessional, I proceed with the interview asking lacklustre text book questions. Most of G’s replies starts off with a Welllllllllll….. (almost like a long suffering, impatient tone) and the thing that really irritates me is how he answers like a poet making gestures as if he is in a Shakespeare performance. When I asked him why he wanted to join the industry and what can he bring to the desk, he threw the question back to me immediately!!!! I appreciate candidates who shows interest in the boss’s accomplishments and motivation being in the job.. But its offensive to have your question thrown back at you in such a manner, machiam like you jio meng someone and he toh meng!! At that point of time, I really felt like roasting him for dinner. He definitely looks beautiful served whole on a plate with an apple in his mouth or just his knuckle with beer will do.. yumz!! 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

You just described me (in terms of looks)..... I was recently looking to move into commodities trading but failed to secure any interviews so had to settle for something else. Thankfully you didn't interview me otherwise my story could be here now But I think my personality is quite aggressive lol.
