How much deposit you down?  Grade b is quite bad. If you put like 1k for deposit I suggest to let go and save you tons of time and trouble in the future.

Very likely at phv car. Unless you okay with it, I suggest u stay away from the deal.

Actually I feel differently from the rest.

If that sta check is accurate. I would consider that car to be in a reasonably good used car to buy.

Item 1: valve cover gasket. Very minor repair/ replacement.

Item 2. Again. It's minor stuff. Gasket and seal or even tightening of the nuts can settle .

Item 3. Compressor got oil stain. Highly lightly the O - ring is worn. Just replace O ring.

Item 4 : drive shaft  cover. Very simple and easy job.

Item 5. This 1 I cannot judge. Mostly got rear ended before. Or reverse into wall.

Item 6. Dust cover sign of worn. But on top they mention shock absorber condition is normal. So dun need worry.

Item 7. Replace bulb 

Item 8. Replace rubber seal.

All is kachiamputeh  stuff. If I buy a used car got only these problem. 

I would properly laugh in my sleep .

U see the thing about buying or selling used car. Some dealer they wash your car and polish the engine bay until shiny . No matter how u inspect. U not gonna find any oil stain. 

But does this mean those gasket and seal all is new? No. It just mean they wash it. U cannot see . Highly lightly after u drive 2 months all the sight of leakage start coming.

This car which u check at least they show u clearly all the problem. Most of the time I prefer to view a car unwash and unpolished. ( me personally) 

What are the things u should worry the most when buying a used car? 

No 1 headage. Engine that overhaul before. Or engine that have very high oil consumption.  

No 2 headage. Badly accident car. The chassis alignment totally out. The car have problem going straight. 

No 3 headage.  Gear box issue. ( this 1 not really bad. Just spend money overhaul.  As good as new.

As long as avoid this 3 issue. U are safe. 

I can only say. If your mindset is buying a used car that is as good as a new car. U are not going to be a happy car buyer.

I went to STA for inspection recently, noticed they switched to my ODO meter reading, are they starting to take readings or all along do record down the total mileage.

yeah, from the scratches on the rear bumper caused by boh chap people loading/unloading luggage and rear passenger scuff plate

You forgot about the capacitor for the I-stop. 

I’m guessing it’s more than $2K for outside workshop now.

I am a newbie/junior here and I'm looking to purchase a used Honda HRV that was sent for STA evaluation.
The overall grading was B, made with following remarks:

1. VEHICLE BODY TOUCHED UP PAINTWORK

2. VEHICLE WINDSHIELD STONE CHIP MARK (FRONT)

3. VEHICLE BUMPER MISALIGNED (FRONT)

4. VEHICLE RIM SCRATCHES 

5. VEHICLE BATTERY TESTED - POOR PERFORMANCE (Note: 12.3v with life at 39.1%)

 

Should I be worried about the any of the above comments?
Also, do the seniors here have any sensing on how much fixing the items (e.g. Item 2 and Item 3) might typically cost in a workshop?

First glance, all small issues. 

Now, if we go deeper and look at no. 1 and 2, you should check the car and see if it has been in a major accident before. Look inside engine bay and see if you can see any signs of collision repair or not. I'm too lazy to type in detail because there are a lot of things to check so get a car savvy friend to help and make sure he/she knows what to look for. 

Also, check engine and gearbox health level. These are the most expensive items to repair if there are underlying issues.

I'm new to the forum and would appreciate some advice regarding an STA evaluation report. I'm in the process of purchasing a car, but I can only get my deposit back if the vehicle is accident-free.

After doing some research online, I found that STA reports don’t explicitly state whether a car has been involved in an accident, which makes it a bit tricky for me to assess the situation.

Here’s what the report mentioned:

1. Vehicle panel repaired (rear)

2. Vehicle steering wheel veered towards left

3. Vehicle shock absorber sign of worn (rear right) 

Could these findings suggest that the car has been in an accident, or are they typical wear and tear issues? Any insights on how I should proceed would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

1. Depends how an accident is defined. A reported one or an unreported one. Can be a self-accident against a parking lot pillar for which there is no record as owner paid to fix it outside himself.

2. My one owner from new car also doesn’t have a straight steering wheel. Don’t know why. No accident.

3. You should be more worried about one new shock absorber amongst 3 old ones. If one absorber is worn and the other three look like they’re nearly worn; I.e. similar dirt build up, it’s normal. One of the four has to leak first.

Remember: you’re in the market for a used car. It’s going to be used despite how kilat the used car dealer polishes the car (the shine will be gone in a week), or armoralls the engine bay, tires or air fresheners the interior. Expect that there’ll be repairs because things will wear out. Set aside 5-7k and if you’re still ok, then go ahead.

Doesn't look like the car had a serious accident although a minor one is evident.

Why don't you ask STA directly? I am sure the technician who did the report will be able to share more verbally.

STA has a car-o-liner report, which should report if the vehicle is 'within acceptable tolerance.'. But if it has been repaired well, it will report the same.

Sounds like it has been in a minor fender bender, and general wear and tear issues. I think it is reasonable to reject a car that has been in a major accident, not a minor one.

Dealer will say “Panel got crow shit and caused very bad stain.. maticulious owner only expect perfection so sent in for a $1000 panel respray.” 🤣
