There are many things going against it now. It's population is aging, property market bubble, not many real powerful friends internationally. Heck, it's biggest brother, even refused a military alliance with China and sold more advanced S400 to India.

That is true and I don’t deny they have lots of internal problems but with 1.4b largely united people, a large domestic market, little foreign debts and unheard of centralised control of government and economy (run by very smart people), they have a lot going for them and if history is any guide, the odds are pretty good.

US will find it more difficult to fix and  subvert them, hence it is open season now. China is a formidable foe for anyone.

I think the US also has a lot of problems, ie. polarizing politics, the hijacking of government to serve corporate interest, the inequality, etc, but I also won’t write them off yet. They are the comeback kid again and again.

Let's see who will win but time is on the Chinese side, they will be the world's largest economy in 10 years time and they are known to play the long game.

In history The CCP sponsored the insurgency in Malaya, in recent times they stole our terrex and tried to steal our leaders MOH records (not saying the US is a saint here).

The CCP will treat us worse than its own citizens  even though we are same race(happens now in China companies in SG)

But its “Asia pivot” points to policy problems, he says in Lee Kuan Yew: The Grand Master’s Insights on China, the United States and the World, a collection of interviews and other material by Graham Allison, Robert Blackwill and Ali Wyne.

Mr. Lee, 89, whose son Lee Hsien Loong is the Singapore Prime Minister, says: “If the US wants to substantially affect the strategic evolution of Asia, it cannot come and go.”

The very name China, he says - Middle Kingdom - recalls a region in which it was dominant, “when other states related to them as supplicants to a superior”.

“Will an industrialized and strong China be as benign to Southeast Asia as the US has been since 1945? Singapore is not sure. Neither is Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam.”

He says “many small and medium countries in Asia are concerned. They are uneasy that China may want to resume the imperial status it had in earlier centuries, and have misgivings as being treated as vassal states”.

“China tells us that countries big or small are equal, that it is not a hegemon,” Mr Lee writes. “But when we do something they do not like, they say you have made 1.3 billion people unhappy. So please know your place.”

from being hopeful with Deng, to "pleading" with china to be peaceful, to giving up on china switching to the english media warning westerners and asean about china's true colours.

Current PM Lee basically expressed the same views.

If they had been more frank in local media, perhaps we wouldnt have needed the fica laws or have so many dicksons

There is no doubt LKY was a great thinker of his time. Like all human, there are mistakes too, I shall not dive in on that. His comments are based on the leader of his time and the environment, leader change, so does environment. He also has pointed out some truth and facts. Big nation, especially economically stronger will lead. How do you lead if some refuse to follow? Then the question will be what type of actions they will take? sanctions like what USA has been doing or bomb them and accusing them of having WMD? We cannot tell for sure what will happen.

The facts remain, we are in Asia and that giant is our neighbour. The West way of Master & Slave has been around for 200 years or more, some may love it but I am quite sure many would want to break away. History however has shown which is the bigger bully and pushing her weight around. Today is economy, tomorrow is religion and then how you should live your life, and so on. As I have previously said somewhere, why the west is not interested in African? A continent of more than 1 billion? There are there to look for slave and took whatever they could. Asia should never be Africa. Vietnam has shown how they have break free. 

Australia and Japan are the 2 that would love to be obedient follower for their respective reasons.

no la.... mexicans actually want closer ties with usa for the economic benefits. all the goodies without the dash lines or 100k troops "exercising" at the borders.

Haha... Yes I was just kidding. The Mexicans don't have US troops with guns surrounding them but I am sure some Mexicans would love to be "Crimea" like some Ukrainians of Russian origin are happily waiting to return to the embrace of motherland. 😂😂😂

On Saturday, 12 February, I published a column in the Singapore _Straits Times_. The main message of the article was that readers could download a free copy of my latest book, published by Springer, entitled The Asian 21st Century.
 
Before the column appeared on Saturday, there had been about 140,000 downloads of the book. I expected the _Straits Times_ article to generate 10,000 or at the most 20,000 additional downloads. Instead, to my absolute surprise, the number of downloads had increased to 223,000. In short, one article in the _Straits Times_ generated 83,000 downloads.
 
It was truly heartening to learn that my columns are being read and followed up on by such a large audience in Singapore.

China is now an economic powerhouse. It will continue to expand militarily and bully its neighbours.

South China Sea is a glaring example. Nepal recently claim China encroached its land space, but they can't do anything about it, can they ?

Pakistan, India, Vietnam and all the neighbours, if they are not strong enough, the big bully will harass them for years to come.

US and the West can slow it down, but they are addicted to the cheap China factories and the huge consumer market.

Border conflicts are everywhere. How much land were involved and why would they 'fight' over those land? Very rich in oil or minerals?

However, have you seen any asian countries colonized or bombing any other country? More the other way around. So why are there so much negative news about possible bullying when actual and continue bullying are taking place? Very strange right
