But i must say i am sad that the way the dad behave , in showing that his son show the sign  language despite his son being wrong in the first place is a small matter.

if my son i think i slap straight away . 

I wouldn't want my kids to be so rude as well but no I will not slap them for this especially in front of others. 

Get him to apologize immediately, yes. Discipline him later at home, yes. 

Slap him in front of someone else? A definitely no no. 

Btw...the boy was definitely wrong, no 2 ways about it. Is it a big deal? Like you say, it's subjective. Correct me if I'm wrong, the father did not straight away say it's no big deal? I think he checked with his boy if he did that then apologize for it first. But the driver went on and on and even say things like your son got no upbringing. Not siding anyone not judging anyone, just personally feels he overreact and went bonkers like a emotional train wreck.

Actually if you noticed, the father did not apologize to the driver at all; he kept defending his son's actions by saying "no big deal" / "he's just a kid" / "he panicked". I think the driver was upset because while he managed managed to stop and didn't even sound his horn he got flipped the birdie.

 

What made him fly into a rage and scream, was when the father kept brushing it off and raised his voice at him - the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. He also said the driver was "rushing out of the carpark" which I actually don't feel so because if he did, he wouldn't have been able to stop in time. I've watched the video a couple of times and concluded he was driving at a reasonable speed.

 

Seriously, cyclists... it's ok if you don't treasure your lives or that of your children's... but don't cause problems to innocent drivers lah.
