i thought it was a one-way road until the incident occurred ....

As far as an idiot cyclist is concerned,  it is onky one way.....his way, until he is under a truck......

Looking at those cyclists, they seemed to be casual cyclists right?

I ask google, so far i think this is the only professional cyclist in SGP.

Goh Choon Huat, 30, to be 1st Singaporean to join elite team in Europe

Thinking aloud, not that I support cycling on the expressway under current form, it would be really wonderful if there are dedicated cycling lanes on expressway. As the name implies, expressways allows fast and uninterrrupted travel between places, so will provide an alternate means for cyclists to travel for work or leisure.

But for that to happen, the expressways would have to be widened and definitely not necessary to provide cycle lanes for all expressways but only certain major ones. That would be wonderful if the cycle lanes could be integrated properly to be clearly segregated from the normal motorised car lanes. Really gel with the thinking to go green. Looking forward to the day it happens.

Cycle lanes? Just look at TMCR cycle lanes and what some of them do? Move into lane 3/2. Same will happen if there are cycle lanes on expressways. and what about exit cross traffic (cycles going straight, cars exiting left)?

A lot of times, cycling lane is an afterthought and not well designed.

In addition, it is very boring to ride flat road all the way.

Unlike TMCR, any cycling lane next to expressway has to be barricaded and separated from vehicles traffic.

In addition, it has to be wide enough to accommodate different speed.

Unlike South Korea, we are small enough that cycle lane next to expressway is unnecessary

They build a lot of PCN.

Great.... Because PCN benefits the runners, strollers, skaters and cyclists.

And yet mamils cannot seem to be satisfied with PCN and even dedicated cycling lane like the one on TMCR.

WHY do road cyclists not satisfied with PCN?

Look...just because some of us feel that we want to train and test our driving skills to the limit does not mean that public funds should be spent on a race track in land scarce Singapore.

I ok with PCN but i try not to use my road bike.. a foldie will be more applicable.

For the dedicated lane at TMCR one reason could be the amount of sands got trapped by the side which is more dangerous at higher speed cycling.. and of cos there's occasional lane hogger.. and those with wider handlebar bicycle which make this lane unsafe.

Peloton will definitely skip this lane as generally they go at higher speed.

the sand trapped on the side is a maintenance issue that the authorities failed to factor in when they designed it. a regular automated road sweeping truck going down the side would have solved the problem. As usual, other than the cost of setting up the cycling lane, there are cost involved involved in regular maintenance or else it will be white elephant. Again, is it fair to rest of citizens to pay for the maintenance when some of them may not be aware of it's existence?

Lane hogger issue is the same as for motoring, education to keep left unless overtaking and to give way to faster bikes.

Within the cycling world, is it unreasonable to expect a speed limit to be imposed on cyclist for  their own safety and rest of the road user? (yes yes...someone will tell ask me how to enforce yahdah yah dah...)
