70 km/h is the legal speed limit on viaducts. But, as drivers, we all knew actual traffic speed can be quite a fair bit above that if no cameras or TP are around 😅

My stance is that viaducts are build with the purpose to facilitate and move traffic more efficiently over congested junctions below, and it's designed with motorized traffic in mind only. So there really shouldn't be any cyclists going up on them, and more often than not, its only the groups of recreational roadies who will chiong up on Keppel viaduct. Every Sunday morning sure have one.

Give it back to the motorized traffic on the viaducts, and drivers should give way to the cyclists using the roads below the viaducts. I think it's fair.

The average speed on viaduct can be at 40-45km/h on the flat and >60km/h close to 70km/h or more on descent, so we cannot debate on speed.....

Rather on the appropriate time with lower traffic conditions.

I agree cyclist should not cycle on viaduct during peak traffic conditions.

Just last month.... I was cycling near my home....with a long descend.....then upslope....

I actually "overtook" a white Jaguar E-pace driving within the 60km/h speed limit.... I was on lane 3 close to double yellow line, E-Pace was on lane 1 trunk road of 60km/h speed limit.....my speed was 67km/h😅

I think there are a lot of younger than me guys can cycle faster than me....😅

Cos you will not trigger a fixed speed camera or ninja laser speed cam even if you go at 80kph...

Even if triggered, the TP only have a nice photo of your butt.... And no way to id you. :D

Only with long down slope then can slightly exceed 60km/h, on the flat still slow on the side. So unlikely can trigger the speed cam.😅

Slowest fix speed cam usually is 60km/h like along Yishun Ave 1&2, Punggol Central, major trunk road like Holland Rd, Bukit Batok Rd, Loyang Ave all 70km/h.

Supercharged

We should do the same.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/aug/16/registration-plates-and-insurance-for-cyclists-on-table-in-review-of-road-laws

Cyclists could be made to have registration plates and insurance
Bikes could be made to have registration plates and insurance as ministers weigh up bringing speed limits for cyclists into line with those for drivers.

The government is also considering the possibility of cyclists receiving licence penalty points and fines if they break speed limits or run red lights, the Daily Mail reported.

It comes as the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, proposed a Whitehall review of how cyclists who flout the law can be tracked down by police.

“Somewhere where cyclists are actually not breaking the law is when they speed, and that cannot be right, so I absolutely propose extending speed limit restrictions to cyclists,” he said. “Particularly where you’ve got 20mph limits on increasing numbers of roads, cyclists can easily exceed those, so I want to make speed limits apply to cyclists.

“That obviously does then lead you into the question of ‘well, how are you going to recognise the cyclist, do you need registration plates and insurance and that sort of thing’. So I’m proposing there should be a review of insurance and how you actually track cyclists who do break the laws [via identifiable markings].”

There has been an increase in people using bicycles to get around in recent years and it is understood the government is keen to implement any new rules in 20mph zones in particular.

Mandatory insurance for cyclists is also on the table, with Shapps keen to set up a review despite the fact he may no longer be in his role when a new prime minister is elected by Conservative party members on 5 September.

He added: “I don’t want to stop people from getting on their bike. It’s a fantastic way to travel, we’ve seen a big explosion of cycling during Covid and since, I think it has lots of health benefits.

“But I see no reason why cyclists should break the road laws, why they should speed, why they should bust red lights and be able to get away with it.”

If riders injure or kill pedestrians, mandatory insurance would allow the victims or their families to secure compensation in the same way they could make claims if someone was hit by a car or van.

It is not the first time in recent weeks the transport secretary has targeted cyclists. Earlier this month he said legislation was needed to “impress on cyclists the real harm they can cause when speed is combined with lack of care”.

who was the idiot who stopped him. I would be Kwai lan and say fine limpeh lor! Bloody civil servants don’t know the law and want to throw their weight around.
it is also stated clearly in the statutes, that school buses are allowed.

CB plate is not allowed because it is considered a private company bus, not public bus. Read about this before somewhere.

NVM, can't find the info anymore.. so take it as allowed :D

Our law-makers always need to wait for other countries to implement first before they do a me-too!

Million dollar salary just to copy other's ideas? Where to apply for the job?

PA is a private bus. All along can use. Never heard of anytime that it was ever disallowed.

No, I was referring specifically to CB plate only. PA, PB, PC plates are allowed.
