Car refurbishment

Hi All,

I am having an idea to do a major one stop refurbishment for my 12 year old vehicle. COE still has 8 years left.

was toying on this idea for a couple of months now. However looking online I don’t think there is a one stop solution for it... looking for recommendations for a one stop solution.

1) a new paint job, maybe a change of colour from black to yellow? 😆 or to save cost do a good polish to make the black paint shiny again

2) realignment of front bumper. 1 side the gap looks big

3) rewrap of seats and door panels. Driver seat got hole already 😂

4) deep cleaning of the interior of the vehicle. Removing seats and other fittings

5) new rims

6) polish or replace of front headlamp. Looks cloudy now. Tried polishing it, failed.

anything if I miss out please feel free to share here.

When I raised the same question on my 11 year old Teana, all my atas friends in mcf tell me to,

Change car.

Of course, I don't listen to them.

why would a 11year old car have to undergo such a major  rejuvenation job ?

Actually no need.

Mine was more on ride stability which has improved after I changed the suspension, lower arms and steering ends.

One stop solution is not going to be cheap. It might be better to source your own. Body one place, interior one place, rims and tyres another place.

Give Chip Foose (Overhaulin') a friendly call...

He can do wonders on your car..

Never do anything in the engine compartment? Should at least do a major servicing.

Change of colour  provided you really hate current black. Else a good DIY polish and clean up might save you easily 1K plus

2) realignment of front bumper. 1 side the gap looks big

You can always ask the work mechanic to take a look in your next servicing with them. Could be FOC or a minor workmanship only

3) rewrap of seats and door panels. Driver seat got hole already 😂

You should do this, a simple wrap on all seats is ideal. You can look into scrapyard availability too. The condition there could be better than yours. Test on the cushion especially.

4) deep cleaning of the interior of the vehicle. Removing seats and other fittings

A DIY using your vacuum will do. Removing seats might not that as simple as you think.

5) new rims

If your current rims is badly damaged, good to change to a new set with new tyres to enjoy a better rate too.

Some older models rim might be able to fit  your car model with a good discount too.

6) polish or replace of front headlamp. Looks cloudy now. Tried polishing it, failed.

As usual go scrapyard to look around for replacement or get a new set if your pocket permit.

Polishing only can improve 10-20% even by workshop.

Nice, I always find an old but well-taken care car more charming than a new car.

My replies are in red.

1) a new paint job, maybe a change of colour from black to yellow? 😆 or to save cost do a good polish to make the black paint shiny again

- I will stick to black. After 10 years of original paint, I don't think any detailer will guarantee anything. So go respray.

2) realignment of front bumper. 1 side the gap looks big

- need to check if you bumper clip is broken anot. If it is broken, you can use quick fix like this to solve the problem.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32806369765.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.62f94c4dttVEqW

3) rewrap of seats and door panels. Driver seat got hole already 😂

- Go and rewrap. You will spend like 80% of your time inside the car.

4) deep cleaning of the interior of the vehicle. Removing seats and other fittings

- Recommended also.

5) new rims

- Good to have, but not very necessary

6) polish or replace of front headlamp. Looks cloudy now. Tried polishing it, failed.

Can get professional to polish.

I suggest you do these things in this order:

1) Buy a pair of used headlamp from scrapyard. You may find relatively good condition headlamps. Forget about polishing your existing one.

2) Install headlamp, bumper alignment and spray paint can be done at one stop. They do bodywork and spray painting.

3) After you settle the exterior, then you move on to do the leather seat and interior.

4) Last stop is the rim.

Refresh the interior for comfort and headlights for night visibility - Yes.

Keep the beat-up exterior look, so that others in newer car will stay far away from you and give way when you change lanes!

Yup. Best suggestion to combat reckless boh chap ones on the road. Or like one suggested to buy a left 1year to scrap car.

My replies are in blue.

1) a new paint job, maybe a change of colour from black to yellow? 😆 or to save cost do a good polish to make the black paint shiny again

- Black so hot, change to white, silver or grey. Grey is best, just add white to the black.

2) realignment of front bumper. 1 side the gap looks big

- just use rivets like this guy

3) rewrap of seats and door panels. Driver seat got hole already 😂

- poke so hard until got hole? Just put some nice t shirts on the seats.

image.thumb.png.6644507e723a54af082913ab535ef198.png

4) deep cleaning of the interior of the vehicle. Removing seats and other fittings

- don't remove the seats, you will be shocked with what you find. Better not to see.

5) new rims

- If you bang your old rims whats the point? you will just bang your new rims and they will look the same right?

6) polish or replace of front headlamp. Looks cloudy now. Tried polishing it, failed.

- save your money, just use your Mother to polish it.
