It's the design and style. Frameless windows used to be the domain of coupes, gran tourers so that when they open their long doors, with the windows up, it still doesn't spoil the silhouette and sleek side profile of coupes and gran tourers. 

However, after Tesla did this on their very successful Model 3, every other Chinese EV upstart mimic this immediately. This is at the expense of sound proofing since it is harder to create a better seal around the window glass, plus the window motors are going up and sliding down a quarter of an inch every time you open or close your doors leading to more wear & tear. Also to improve on sound proofing, they have to use laminated glass instead of normal tempered glass, which is also more expensive. 

It's a pointless exercise on a 4 door sedan, really. Having said that, last time Subaru Impreza also frameless windows, long before Tesla was born.

I just drove the BYD Seagull in a private compound in Zhuguo. First time driving an EV. Very zippy (from 0 to 40), like driving an over sized golf cart. Well equipped too.

No wonder Chinese EVs are taking over the world.

Seagull should be very low end model. Not much refinement to say.

For about 14K SGD worth, it is surprisingly refined and well equipped.

Your probably have to pay the same amount to buy a golf cart in Sg.

Yes man, it's mainly cosmetics. 2 of my last 3 cars are all frameless 😅 

However, the sound insulation will be really bad not suitable for audiophiles... my wife always say can hear the audio very clearly when outside the car so I have to be very careful when watching some videos with not so family friendly audio

I don't like frameless windows. Hard to add sun shades unless built in! 

And only time anyone outside notices it is when the door is open. The driver notice it all the time because of the louder noises as mentioned.

Just now kay poh followed someone go test BYD. Self driving, and self parking (without driver) very impressive. Better dump the traditional car makers shares now.

My customer (late 60s) test drove the Sealion 7 last week.. 

He told me he will dump his 1 yr old Lexus RX350h for SL7..

He said the drive was damn fun n shiok ..🤭

@RadX Some folks just cannot accept feedback or voice their opinion on their choices.

Any way, those looking at EVs, do go for China brands or Tesla and if not Mercs or BMWs. The rest are basically rebadged EVs from China EV makers. No point paying more for Euros and mark ups. One good example will be Zeekr. Volvo uses same setup with different interior quality. I find Zeekr a better buy.

@Freeder Yes, thats what my wife did as well for her Le***. Way quieter and smoother. at a fraction of the cost.
