  1. Hi all, just bought a 2nd hand car (5 year old, 62k mileage) and sent for STA evaluation. Grading is B with the following remarks: 1) VEHICLE SHOCK ABSORBER RUBBER STOPPER SIGN OF WORN (REAR) 2) VEHICLE UPPER ARM BUSH SIGN OF WORN (FRONT) Engine, Transmission, Torque Converter, Abnormal Noise, Shock Absorbers and Wheel Bearings all normal condition. Should I be concerned about the above remarks? Thanks! 🙂
  2. Anyone knows which center is more reliable to go for used car evaluation before purchase
  3. Hi guys, Some of you might be aware I am buying a second hand Jazz... this is AA evaluation report. I am not a merchanical person so need some expert advise if its worth to get this car. Particularly these few issues: - Rattling noise when change "D" to "R" : Is this serious? Gearbox related? Need repair or replace? - Bottom of gearbox seepage: Can this be fixed? Will it affect my gearbox? - Possible missing front reinforcement bar: AA told me yesterday they check a newer Jazz model have this but mine don't have. Can any 2005 Jazz owner advise me? Heard from AA it can be quite serious as I dun have any front protection without this bar. Please also point out if anything you feel is critical (minus cosmetic)... Thank you so much!
  4. Hi everyone, Am currently in the process of looking for a first used car. Of the cars that I have viewed (mostly sourced on SGCM), I have had one sent for AA testing and pre-purchase evaluation. As I have relatively limited knowledge of car mechanics and repairs, would like to appeal for help and feedback regarding the report. Model: Audi A4 1.8T FSI MU S-LINE Registration: May 2009 Mileage: 120,000+ Previous owners: 1 Dealer claims - no major accidents, stock colour, servicing already done before initial viewing No declarations with regards to major servicing/repairs required beforehand Am looking for opinions on whether this vehicle appears roadworthy/worth purchasing (+/- negotiations or additional servicing) based on the report, or if there are any major red flags etc. Thanks in advance. Any constructive comments or suggestions would also be very much appreciated!
  5. I am about to take over a used car, just need some advice on Used Car Evaluation. So far, I heard that S** and Vi*** checks are so, so only. What other places can you recommend? Preferably if they are located in Ubi area cos I am getting the car in AML. TIA.
  6. Dear Bros, I want to buy one used card which sta report give general Grade B but fluid check is C . Remarks say engine and steering rack & pinion have oil seepage and sign of oils stain of engine. Does it mean serious problem inside? Car is 5 years old and maintained by dealer workshop. Highly appreciate your help!
  7. Anyone knows the pricing? Buyer's want to do a STA Evaluation before handing over my car. f--king troublesome ah neh.
  8. Hi Was wondering if any one brought 2nd hand cars to AA to be evaluated? It costs $120 for non members. How does it compares to STAs? Is it more comprehensive? Thanks
  9. Ever since the whole Toyota recall debacle exploded late in 2009, one of the company's biggest problems has been the way it has responded to the problems. Many have criticized Toyota for either ignoring the problems or pretending that there is nothing wrong, but the company is now seeking to address that appearance by setting up rapid response teams to deal with reported incidents of unintended acceleration. For example, when a pair of alleged "unintended acceleration" incidents happened in San Diego and Connecticut, Toyota jumped in, sending out investigators to join government officials in trying to find out what happened. The new Swift Market Analysis Response Team (SMART) will now be immediately dispatched to the site of any reported unintended acceleration incident. The teams will consist of product engineers, field technical specialists and specially trained dealer technicians. Whenever dealers or Toyota are notified of an incident, the SMART team will head out to the site to evaluate the vehicle and gather evidence. Engineers from Toyota's Japanese product development teams will also assist in the analysis. Hopefully, a more thorough investigation of every reported case will provide Toyota with a larger pool of data from which it can gain a better understanding of what may or may not be happening. Even if there is not actually a problem, Toyota needs to prove so conclusively, because if these kinds of incidents continue happening, they will only damage the company's reputation further.
  10. read in the ST that some of the inspectors take bribes from WS to pass inspection of illegally mod cars. i think this has been going for quite a while, if that's the case, how can we really trust their grading servicing when we send the 2nd hand car to STA for evaluation? Does Grade A really mean that the car is really worth such a grade?
  11. which car evaluation has warranty? if 2nd hand car bring for evaluation, then i would prefer to have warranty type. pay more nvm.
  12. ST? Vicom? where else? I dunno but i heard last time ST got warranty for 6 mths if anything goes wrong?
  13. OK the oil is in the engine. Not my first choice because I wanted Hydroclear SAS 5W30 but due the circumstances thanks to bull strengthed mechanics of SA, I needed a bottle that have excess oil at 5L. Delo 400 fits it and it is cheap at MYR60. After driving around going to redlining the car after the oil warmed up. Pretty good. When warmed it should be a 40wt. So it should be no different from CLTR 5W40 but will definitely last much longer than CLTR even though it is dino oil. Here are the specs for Delo 400 15W40 Viscosity at 40 deg C = 116 Viscosity at 100 deg C = 15.6 As you can see the oil is quite thick. Compare this with a regular Group III 10W40 from Hydroclear SAS. V@40 = 97 V@100 = 14.2 But still better than a 20W50 which is typically at: V@40 = 165 V@100 = 17.7 Got people report that this oil even though it is dino oil keeps the engine very clean. From Autoworld, got one Perdana owner uses this and usually open his cam cover to show how new looking the components are.
