  4. And you thought you have heard or seen it all... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1235760/1/.html Meat supplier fined for passing off beef as mutton Posted: 07 November 2012 1328 hrs SINGAPORE: A meat supplier has been fined S$4,000 for passing off beef as mutton in its minced and chopped meat product. Basha Meat Supplier Pte Ltd was investigated by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) following public feedback. The two agencies had tested the DNA of various samples of minced and chopped meat sold by Basha Meat Supplier as mutton. Beef was found in the samples. The supplier was brought to court November 6 where it was fined by the court under the Sale of Food Act. NEA said before the court's decision, it had been monitoring Basha's products, and subsequent samples did not uncover any beef in meat sold as mutton. In a media statement, NEA said on October 9 a similar deterrent sentence was passed to another meat supplier - Nabisha Mutton Supplier. NEA and AVA had tested the DNA of various samples of minced and chopped meat sold by Nabisha Mutton Supplier as mutton. Beef was found in the samples. The court fined Nabisha S$5,000, which is the maximum penalty for the first offence under the Sale of Food Act. NEA said the AVA is reviewing the maximum penalties specified under the Sale of Food Act to serve as a greater deterrent to offenders. This is part of its current review of the Act to look at other measures to enhance food safety. - CNA/fa
  5. So after your passed your driving....must be damn excited..... How is your first time driving as a public road user? Your first car without instructor? For me, I passed in the afternoon but it's only at night I get to drive my dad's car. a humble 1.6 Ford Laser KJ . Dad's offered to give me a "crash course" on driving in SG, tell me things that instructors don't teach. Once I hit out the road, I'm still driving at 50km/h, dad told me to pick up speed and not to slow down the traffic. Once we hit our expressway entrance, he told me to pick up even more and keep to the middle lane if I want to drive normal. I remember his advise: - Keep out of lane 3 if unless nessesary, esp from the entrances as you don't want to block other cars. - Lane 1 is the faster lane, but never roadhog in lane 1, even if you are travelling at 90km/h and a car comes from behind fast, give way and keep yourself safe. - Beware of taxi's, these uncles work all day and may be tired, they are more prone to misjudgement. - Beware of heavy vehicles, try not to put yourself in a position where you end up in their blind spot. - Beware of malaysia vehicles, we are not insured against them. - Beware of speed cams, if all cars suddenly slow down, take caution. It was a 45mins trip, from 1 end of my house to the other end, traveled CTE, PIE and TPE. Then to my ex-gf's(current OC) place. I remember I only wave to my ex-gf from downstair and boy she was pissed saying I didn't even ask her to come down, but hey my old man was with me and it was awkward then. It was a nice experience and I'm glad my dad offered to guide. How about the rest of you? Do state your first car you drove.... any friends/guides? any happening encounters?
  6. I have encounter this a couple of times, passing through some gantries but cash not deducted. Doesn't happen to all gantries and it's quite irregular. Been happening for over a month and no letter from LTA? Should I sent my unit for inspection or act blur and wait for things to happen?
  7. Fernando Alonso's overtaking move on his Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa in China recently was "incredibly risky", according to Mark Webber. Australian Webber, who is known to be a friend of the Spanish double world champion, was commenting on Alonso's controversial move in the Shanghai pit entry that left his relationship with Massa the subject of speculation. "It was very hard against your teammate, if fair, but also incredibly risky and incredibly opportunistic," said Webber, who drives for Ferrari's championship rival Red Bull. "It could have been quite confusing for the team, because they needed to switch the tyres around. And I'm not sure I'd want to risk walking into the factory having taken both cars out at the entry to the pitlane," he added. "That would have been a pretty serious one to try and get over. But in the end it turned out ok for Fernando and he got away with it," said Webber. Last week, 28-year-old Alonso hit out at the fact that the move and its after-effects were still in the headlines. "What is clear is that two weeks after a race you can't keep talking about such unimportant things, so I'm going to refuse to answer," he is quoted as saying by the Spanish sports newspaper Marca. And in a more recent interview with Italy's Corriere della Sera, Alonso was asked if he would repeat the pit entry move in light of the criticism it has generated. "Absolutely yes," he answered. 9. juz curious wads the stats like here for attempts taken before u gt the green driving license! manual or auto driving?
  10. i wonder wad is wrong with drivers on the road when they approaching a speed cam, they must travel like 10km/hr slower than the rated speed, eg. driving at 90km/hr approaching a 90km/hr camera, they would slow down to 80km/hr or slower, it's happening even on lane 1, wad are they thinking? doesn't they know that speed camera give an allowance? even if they dun know, they can just stick to the rated speed wad. sorry for the rants

  12. I believe this could had been posted here before but anyway no harm done for knowing Very prominent now in Singapore. So beware when receiving your change. Take a good look at the two coins - the one on the left is a one-dollar coin, the one on the right is 100 rupiah. Saw this report from STOMP :- "Someone ended up shortchanged - when a drinks stallholder gave her an Indonesian rupiah instead of a Singaporeone-dollar coin. Someone bought drinks at the foodcourt. Our drinks cost $1.40 and so she gave the stall owner $5. The drink stall gave a change of a $2 note, a $1 coin and $0.60, and she just kept it in her wallet without looking After she left the mall, she realised that the $1 that was given to her was in fact a indonesian Rupiah 100 (equivalent to only S$0.016)! After comparison to our S$1, we realised that both look similar. Just want others to beware and take note when people give you coins"
