  1. S’pore Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing On Johor Highway This Morning Due To Technical Issues source: https://mustsharenews.com/emergency-landing-johor-highway/ Singapore Aircraft From Seletar Airport To Melaka Makes Emergency Landing On Johor Highway Motorists travelling along the highway in Johor this morning had the opportunity to witness a bizarre sight. A light aircraft from Singapore made an emergency landing near Sedenak, Johor – around 49km northwest of Johor Bahru – due to technical issues. As a result, dozens of firemen and police personnel were deployed to the scene, as seen in a video uploaded by the Royal Malaysia Police below. They later helped to push the aircraft to the roadside so that the highway will no longer be obstructed. Singaporean pilots requested to make emergency landing in Johor According to a media release by Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), CEO Captain Chester Voo confirmed that a plane from Singapore had made an emergency landing this morning (22 Nov). The private plane – a light aircraft type Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza – was operated by Premier Air Singapore, and was on the way to Melaka from Seletar Airport. CAAM Johor’s Air Traffic Control Tower received a request from the Singaporean pilots at 10.40am to land at Senai International Airport in JB due to technical issues. Pilots in stable condition Despite the emergency landing, Captain Voo said the pilots are in stable condition. The aircraft was also successfully moved out of the way so motorists may continue to use the highway at ease. Here’s another video of the plane after it was moved to the side of the road. Captain Voo added that the Air Accident Investigation Bureau – under Malaysia’s Transport Ministry – will conduct an investigation. Plane’s engine malfunctioned at 5,000 ft altitude Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported that the 2 Singaporeans pilots are Dr Yang Kuang Ying and Mr Saleehullah Abdul Majid. Johor police said the pilots were flying at around 5,000 ft above ground when they heard a strange noise from the engine at 11.05am. The plane’s engine was reportedly malfunctioning, as the petrol gauge “fell rapidly”. They then made an emergency landing at the 47.8km mark of the highway’s southbound lane. Johor police also confirmed that there were no injuries, and no damage to public property in the incident. Thankful that pilots landed safely Despite having to deal with a malfunctioning engine, we’re glad that the 2 pilots were quick to act and landed safely. Though we can’t help but wonder if they will have to undergo quarantine now due to Covid-19 safety measures. Anyway, kudos to the Malaysian authorities for swiftly moving the plane to the side of the road, so motorists can continue using the highway.

  4. China takes first delivery of the aircraft carrier amid rising tension with Japan .... CNA report: China navy takes delivery of first aircraft carrier Posted: 23 September 2012 2119 hrs BEIJING: China's first aircraft carrier was handed over Sunday to the navy of the People's Liberation Army, state press said, amid rising tensions over disputed waters in the East and South China Seas. The handover ceremony of the 300-metre (990-foot) ship, a former Soviet carrier called the Varyag, took place in northeast China's port of Dalian after a lengthy refitting by a Chinese shipbuilder, the Global Times reported. During the handover ceremony the aircraft carrier raised the Chinese national flag on its mast, the PLA flag on its bow and the navy's colours on its stern, the short online report said. A ceremony to place the ship into active service would be held sometime in the future, the paper said without elaboration. China's defence ministry was unavailable to comment on the ceremony. The announcement comes at a time of heightened tensions over maritime disputes in the Asia-Pacific region, where China's growing assertiveness has put it on a collision course with Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines. 6. Problems many many this F-35 programme... Cost overruns & delivery delays are actually very common for new weapon systems especially for the US but for the JSF, it is particularly bad with so many nations co-sponsoring the development of this extremely expensive stealth jet with a eye-popping [shocked] price tag of US$150million per plane based on some estimates. And now the Brits have to retract on their original intent of getting the more costly but loner-ranged C-models with the STOVL B-models and the Aussies are having to delay the delivery of their 12 jets by two years. So where do we stand as a interested party? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1201080/1/.html F-35 to replace most US combat aircraft by 2020 Posted: 14 May 2012 0937 hrs

  11. This topic was 'inspired' by the earlier thread in the General Car Discussion on "cabin light on while driving." I have have been wondering why the stewardess and steward keep asking the passenger to pull up their window blind in the plane during take off and landing during day time and night time. Anyone got an answer?
  12. Sounds like an April Fool's joke, ain't it? Which scholar's idea izzit? Show of force in anti-terrorist drill New task force displays muscle needed to stop terrorists and pirates from using sea lanes to launch attacks By Jermyn Chow The Police Coast Guard flanking a small boat carrying 'terrorists' targeting an oil refinery on Jurong Island. The aim of the exercise is to put the new Maritime Security Task Force through its paces. -- ST PHOTOS: ALBERT SIM SINGAPORE marked the end of a two-week exercise on combating pirates and terrorists at sea with a show of force in waters off Pulau Sudong yesterday. Thirty-five vessels swarmed the sea, while seven aircraft flew overhead, in a bid to scuttle an attempt by five 'terrorists' to ram an oil refinery on Jurong Island with an explosive-laden sampan. More than 1,800 staff from the security arms - army, navy and air force, the Maritime and Port Authority, Police Coast Guard, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, and Singapore Customs - were put through their paces in Exercise Apex. How to deal with ferry mishaps, dispose of sea mines and carry out checks on merchant vessels were also among the drills carried out. The flotilla belongs to the Maritime Security Task Force, a new command group set up to marshal a national response to maritime security threats to the country. Yesterday afternoon's display was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security S. Jayakumar and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean. They stood on the navy's patrol vessel RSS Daring, which closed in on the hostile sampan and took down the armed infiltrators. Also flanking the 'enemy' was the Police Coast Guard vessel. The demonstration underscored the task force's attention on small boats - below 300 gross tons, the likes of which were used by the terrorists during the Mumbai attacks last November. About 100 such small vessels - mostly fishing boats operated by one or two people - traverse the Singapore Strait daily. They look innocuous but can be easily armed to hit Singapore's key installations 'within minutes', said Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong. Putting the task force in action would allow commanders to 'mix and match' men and machines from the different maritime agencies quickly. Its integrated structure under the Chief of Defence Force meant that firepower from the air force and army can be called upon quickly. The task force staff, who will be housed together at Changi Command and Control Centre by next year, has another important weapon: access to real-time information about larger ships that use the congested Singapore Strait. More than 1,500 such ships, each monitored by a radar network, ply the sea lane each day. It also has sensors to see farther beyond Singapore's immediate waters to the Strait of Malacca and South China Sea, allowing the task force some lead time to thwart pirates or terrorists, said the task force deputy commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Chua Meng Seng. Moving forward, RADM Chew, the navy chief, said that the task force is on the lookout for possible links among pirates, sea robbers and terrorists. 'We need to build a much stronger system to keep constant watch over our waters so that we will be one step ahead of all maritime threats,' he said. [email protected] --- SAF really wayang man... 13. I am amazed at the low cost carriers for coming up with the most beautiful paint schemes any aircraft can ever get. Here are some examples. From South Africa: Kulula Airlines [inline kulula.jpg] Their competitor, Mango. [inline Mango-flights.jpg] BTW, Kulula said they will give a party to Mango should they make a profit target. 1time Airlines. Why 1Time? It is South African colloquial speak for "for real!"
