  1. Japan's Honda Motor on Monday recalled more than two million vehicles worldwide over an airbag defect that could pose a fire risk. Honda said the recall covers about 2,033,000 vehicles which were produced between August 2000 and December 2005, including over one million in North America and 668,000 in Japan. Subject to the recall are a total of 13 types of vehicles including popular Fit and Accord models. Front passenger airbag inflators could have been assembled with an improperly manufactured propellant component, Japan's third largest automaker said. That could cause the container of the inflator to rupture in the event of a crash, posing a fire risk or injuring passengers, it added. The same inflator problem has also caused top automaker Toyota to recall millions of vehicles globally. Toyota has earlier said it acted as it received a complaint from a Japanese customer who said his passenger seat was burned from the defect. Honda said the company had received no complaint or reports of injuries on its own. Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/honda-recalls-2m-vehicles/1194544.html
  2. In 2009, Hyundai and KIA had to recall 700,000 units of their models due to defective brake switches. Unfortunately, not learning from their experiences, these South Korean automakers repeat their mistake and this time, it's even worse. They now have to recall a total of 1.6 million units of cars they have produced due to the exact same problem. The brake switch defect may prevent the brake lamps from illuminating even when the brake pedal is actually stepped on. Of course, this is a big deal as it may trigger rear-end collisions. In addition to that, the defect may fail to cancel the cruise control feature while braking, prevent the push-button starter from functioning, and may even block the gear shift in the neutral position. Both KIA and Hyundai will start contacting dealers and customers of the affected models in June 2013 and will provide necessary replacements free of charge. The list of the affected models is as follows: - 2007 KIA Sedona - 2007-2009 Hyundai Tucson - 2008-2009 Hyundai Veracruz - 2007-2010 KIA Rondo - 2007-2010 KIA Sportage - 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra - 2007-2011 KIA Sorento - 2007-2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 2010-2011 KIA Soul - 2010-2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 KIA Optima
  3. Porsche has issued a recall in the US involving 2,263,911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models over exhaust pipe issues. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 7th March to 12th November 2012. "The exhaust tail pipe may fracture and separate from the rear muffler," said Porsche through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem affects the Carreras that were fitted with the standard exhaust system. The German brand added that the fallen pipe may become a hazard for other vehicles on the road, increasing the risk of a crash. This is certainly true especially if a motorcycle is right behind. Porsche is not aware of any defects or reported failures on any customer-owned vehicles. All defects determined to date were reported on internal Porsche test vehicles with mileage of over 25,000 miles. If you are lucky enough to own the latest 911, do check that the tail pipe is still attached at the end of the drive.
  4. [extract] A fabulous feature of the new Hyundai Veloster is its one-and-a-half sized sunroof, which gives your head a little breathing room in the rakishly-shaped car. However, this feature has turned out to be a nightmare for certain owners as they experienced an earth-shattering phenomenon literally. The US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) is conducting investigations over complaints on the Veloster
  5. If you currently own the latest Volvo S60 or XC60 and feels that heat is building up from below, it is better to pull over at the side of the road and check. This is because Volvo is recalling 2,742 2012 Volvo S60s and XC60s in the US due to a potential fuel leak that increases the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). "An incorrect mixture of underbody coating and over-application can result in rigid, icicle-like areas hanging from the vehicle's undercarriage," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If this condition exists, the underbody coating may penetrate the fuels lines and cause fuel leakage, increasing the risk of a crash." Fortunately, Volvo said it has not received any reports alleging injuries, fatalities or crashes related to the defect. Unfortunately, the defect was discovered at Volvo's Ghent, Belgium assembly plant, the same plant where Singapore
  6. Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 85,000 vehicles in the U.S. for an issue related to the power-steering system that could result in a loss of power assistance. The recall covers the 2010 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class models, along with the 2010 and 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models that were manufactured between June 1, 2009 and February 28, 2010. According to Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler, a connection fitting where the high-pressure power-steering line meets the power-steering pump, wasn't adequately tightened during production. This could cause it to loosen over time. Although a clamping plate keeps it from detaching completely, fluid leakage could occur. So far there have been no related injuries or incidents, other than a few cases whereby customers noticed a minor loss of power steering effort while parking. When vehicles are returned to dealerships for an inspection, the affected connection fitting will be inspected and tightened up.
  7. Got my car 3 weeks ago. When I sent for grooming, bro Maddriver pointed out to me that both sides of my car when see at certain angle, can notice vertical shadow as shown in the pic. That night, bro maddriver was grooming under night fluorescent light so we thought it was caused by some reflection of light. But under broad day light, the vertical shadow is very obvious if seen from side. Is it a defect paint? What should I do?
  8. Just finish polishing my 2 weeks old car. From far looks good. However upon closer inspection, seems like I've intro some minor scratches and haze defect to the paint work. I'm curious as to what have I done to intro the haze defect? My sequence of polishing... - Wash with water+soap - Clay bar with same water+soap - Dry car - Apply JW Prime, Allow to haze then polish off - Apply JW Trigger , then polish off I apply the Prime in a straight line manner (as oppose to circular manner) The cloth I use for washing and drying are pretty old cloth (100% cotton type) The one use for polishing is almost new cloth (100% cotton type) Can anyone advise? How to remove the haze defect without using polishing pad?
  9. TOKYO (AP) -- Mazda Motor Corp. is recalling 12,235 passenger cars in two models in Japan over an airbag defect, the Transport Ministry said Thursday. Mazda Motor will also implement the service program for about 19,000 vehicles of the same models sold abroad in accordance with each respective country's safety regulations, said Transport Ministry official Takuhiro Kodama. Subject to recall in Japan are 10,554 Primacy and 1,611 Atenza models, as well as 71 vehicles under the "Ixion" model by U.S. automaker Ford, Kodama said. The vehicles involved were produced between March 22, 1999, and July 19, 2002. The Hiroshima-based Motor is 33 percent owned by Ford Motor Co. Because a foreign object and improper formation material were mixed in the process of manufacturing, a circuit inside the control unit of an airbag could break and unfold suddenly in worst case, Kodama said. Kodama said there were three injures in Japan due to an airbag defect. It was not immediately known whether there are any injuries abroad, he said. Of about 19,000 Premacy and Atenza models sold aboard, about 8,200 vehicles were exported to Germany, 2,200 vehicles in Britain and the remaining 8,600 vehicles elsewhere
