Still2016 Twincharged January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 I got 3 sets of IVAR series bookshelves/study desk self assembled.... Almost 20yr! (Damn... Am I old...) Still going strong.... Now used by my youngest brother who took over my room when I moved out after marriage. When ever I go back to my parent's place for visit.. It never fail to amaze me how well they hold up... No sagging no rotting. The only thing negative (personally) is that I am sensitive to the pine wood resin/dust. My whole hand developed itchy blistering rash that lasted 2 weeks after I was done with assembly. Still vivid in my mind! Doc, I am assuming you are not a hand job man.
Loki Supersonic January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 Better watch the weight of items you're putting onto those compressed sawdust shelving. Add additional support if you need or get solid wood. Throughout my shelves, I stack a "spine" of books in the middle of each shelf, flat on the covers till the stack of book fit tightly against the top shelf. This provides the support for the whole book shelf. Then on each side of this spine, I will put the rest of my books standing up.
mersaylee Hypersonic January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 Things that last are from years ago... Globalisation has brought about economic of scale with universal product to maximise profit. My diy solution to the defects. Door also had to be mounted the opposite way in order to open close easily.
Thaiyotakamli Supersonic January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 I notice now ikea have alot old stocks, some stocks like have been there since opening of ikea in tampines. Somehow i feel like that haha Especially when assembling their furniture, feels like its an old stock rather than new furniture
Kangadrool Supersonic January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 (edited) They should have manufactured date engraved/marked on it, even for cheap clothes hanger that cost 90 cents for a stack of 4. Some markings are obvious, some are round shape like clock with arrow pointing to numbers.... What you don't see is expiry dates for furniture and fittings unlike food. LoL. As for wood, have to deal with termites and their poop. Again, today I have to use a heat gun to kill them off hiding itself the wood.

Kb27 Supersonic January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 Whatever furniture, esp tall shelving, please remember to bolt to the wall, for your little children's safety. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/caught-camera-dresser-falls-twin-boys-one-toddler-saves-other-n702651

Kangadrool Supersonic January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 (edited) Yup, that's the problem with "cheap" things when you shop at Ikea, ValueShop, $2 shop, Daiso. I also bought some book ends, containers etc from Daiso, but mostly end up in storage. Hahaha.... Bought 5 years ago still havent open the wrapper???
