I'm still looking around. Forester is one of the choices but doesn't look that nice as compared to other SUVs. Mazda 6 looks like a good buy. Anybody test drove both Mazda 6 & Civic?

Forester price is definitely attractive currently at $97,800 one month back Motor Image Enterprise had promotion selling around $91,800 if I rmb correctly.

If u take into consideration for Forester spec, 4 wheel drive, boxer engine for higher maintenance, high premium for insurance etc it going to cost fortune compared to Civic/Mazda 6.

for Civic there is 2 version 1.6 sedan vs 1.5 Turbo, if u read/research u find ppl mention the 1.6 version has no power. I personally like the Civic exterior design, sporty look. But the price for turbo is pricey at $115,999.

I end up getting Mazda 6, Cheaper, bigger space and sleek looking.

Neutral Newbie

I also got the standard. To me, 8k top up isnât worth it

At sub 100, standard is a terrific and no-brainer deal. Above 100, then got other car choices to consider.

The only worthy features for the executive is HUD and BSM

However, I still rely on my driving instincts and visual cues for lane change, road safety etc. shouldnât rely too much on technology

More features to me means more potential for failures. I hardly even use the sat nav or rear view cam or I-stop on my standard. I find the auto dimming mirror irritating too, seems like there is no way to disable it (at night itâs just too dark)

I like old school. Cars nowadays are too feature laden and too complicated for their own good

Hi can share with me your SE details? It doesn’t seem to be sub 100k at current pricing

Congrats. I collected my mz6 wagon about 1 week plus ago. Despite it being a 2017.5 model, I am loving the drive so far. I finished my first tank with lots of city driving (still running in) at about 10 odd km/l. Good fc to me considering it to be a 2.5l. Driving in light and heavy traffic is a Breeze, with the engine performance. Cheers!

Just finished my first full tank after collecting car too. Getting 11.2km/l for my 2.5L. Much better than I expected considering the engine capacity, 19inch rims and my driving conditions (70% city). Should get better after the first service.

I did test drive both on the same day.

Civic 1.6A is really a good point A to B car. Although the engine is responsive, there isn't much excitement.

Civic 1.5T is a really different car all together. Super responsive and the kick from the turbo is really awesome. For the price I'm paying through, the quality is not within expectation. The car is really meant for people who really enjoys the engine rather than comfort .

Mazda 6 2.0A on the other hand is a very comfortable car. Soft touch materials on the doors, arm rests, even the rear doors have soft touch materials. Car is responsive but doesn't have the kick and speed that the Civic 1.5T gives.

It's a 19HP (M6 - 165 vs Civic - 184) and the torque difference is more due to the turbo. It really boils down to what is your driving style and what do you want from a car.

I tested both Civic 1.6L & Mazda 6 2.0L standard. IMO:

Power & responsive: C > M (I feel C pick up much faster than M, and when press down accelerator C gives faster response)

Control: C >> M (I feel M steering is too light, C is much better for me)

Driving feel: C = M (I feel more sporty when driving C; feel more comfort when driving M)

Features: C > M (C gives more functional control in software settings, pedal shift, keyless)

Safety: M >> C (6 air bags from M, I remember C has 2 only!)

Spacious: C >= M (Close fight, maybe C have slightly more leg room at rear seats)

Boot: C = M (I did not check spec, feel both the same)

Exterior and Interior: M >> C (The key factor I choose M)

Color: M >> C (I like the Mazda red)

Collected my Mazda 6 2018 Executive Titanium flash mica today, I didn't test drive the car before.

Please read with a pinch of salt, as different people has different opinion.

Good Point

  • The interior technology and gadget seem advance and high tech, like those on continental car. Especially it's knob/joystick. I love the interior design.
  • The price is attractive for a 2.0 luxury sedan.
  • New face lift "grill plate" it has this wow factor.
  • The "17 inch" rim with Bridgestone tires.
  • Exterior is slim and modern look especially the front LED eye.
  • Twin exhaust pipe it damn cool!
  • I read alot people were disappointed with Bose Sound System, however it sound pretty decent to me. Pardon I'm not a audiophile so it doesn't make a differences to me.
  • The drive is smooth even hitting 100.
Bad Point
  • Steering wheel is EXTREMELY LIGHT WEIGHTED had a rude shock. Must grip tightly with both hand to control.
  • Previously was driving Honda Accord 2008 2.0. Mazda 6 length is shorter compared to Honda Accord. The width space also narrow (maybe it's due to black leather) it seem so cramp compared to the showroom white leather.
  • I'm a light footed person when I step on the brake (not hard brake) there is still a *tak* sound of closing cupboard. Annoying AF.
  • Easily spot dust on glossy surface.
  • The reverse cam is pixelated/low resolution. I sat on my friend new purchased Subaru Impreza his reversed cam is clearer.
  • The free car In cam is humongous like a block. come with LCD screen front & back.
  • Car rear screen is small and cramp due to design.
Overall I'm satisfied with car, mainly because of the price. I hope my review can help also it's best to test drive a few time before making a decision.
Wow what might the “tak” sound during braking due to? I don’t remember noticing it when I test drove the car... is it something faulty or to be rectified?

I also checked out the civic but the interior was not to my liking compared to m6. Civic was too plastic inside, and felt like a tin can

M6 interior is better built and it envelopes you almost like the way a continental does

Only thing the civic wins hands down is the higher OMV

My m6 standard omv is 19k, I think the non turbo civic is above 20k if I recall, probably around 23k?

And yes the sub 100 pricing was due to the initial launch. Not sure what’s the best price that TEK can offer currently, but definitely still better VFM compared to accord and Camry.

Nice! 11.2kml for 70% city driving. Gosh. I dun think I can make it due to my heavy right foot.

Wow what might the âtakâ sound during braking due to? I donât remember noticing it when I test drove the car... is it something faulty or to be rectified?

It’s likely the quick release of the foot brake. I have been experiencing that and it’s quite irritating. Zzzzz
