Foldable bicycle

Recently I came across this local China guy operating a bicycle shop here and carrying his own brand of trifold aka Brompton clone with some nice innovation at very palatable price of S$699. This is different from the usual 3sixty and Pikes mainly due to the gear groupset and rear drive he used - Shimano Sora. He uses 9-speed cassette instead of the usual Sturmie Archer internal hub with QR skewers thus making the bike very easy to maintain, unlike standard Brompton setup that requires owners to learn its way to do maintenance and very little option for upgrades when coming to drive mechanism. There is even potential now to change the groupset to Ultegra or 105 to make the bike even lighter and faster. The Brompton has introduced the faster and lighter P line and T line last year in bid to do that, but to me this is even better news. If you ever get this Liaoge666 remember to replace the tyres straightaway to Urban Contact or Kojek as it is really a worthwhile mod.

Impressive under 700 alternative...

Like

price, aluminium seat pole insert, specs, ease of maintenance

No like

Weight, handle bar, logo (he said he'd change), wheel size

Can use CDC? 😁

This morning finally resumed my weekend early morning ride ritual after stopping for close to 2 months. Was excited to go as just replaced my stock lousy Innova tyres with Continental Urban Contact tyres and eager to see the difference. Not really fair as this morning was without any breeze so no drag at all unlike afternoon or evening rides, but the tyres really make tonnes of difference. The weight difference is very tangible as measured - 500gm vs 220gm per tyre. On road feel really is no horse run as move off from stationary is effortless and acceleration is easy. I did not go all the way as still trying to adjust my pace but already achieved much better timing. Throughout the ride my lower back did not kill me like before even once, infact never feel any tiredness even at the end of the it. I could just keep on pedalling non-stop, only limited by the gear-ratio of my tri-fold as it is of 3 speeds only after all.

But my intention is to exercise hard to keep fit, now have to see how to make my rides more challenging. The obvious is to ride faster and more frequently, both of which I am not in favour as more dangerous if fall at higher speed and also do not have the luxury of time. Maybe will ride longer from 50km to maybe 70km instead. Anyway is happy problem haha.

the easiest way to make your ride more challenging is to ride with Anywheel ... lol sure backside sore and everywhere ache

What's building there?

I know Punggol Barat area all trucks are carrying all the sand and gravel.

TMCR large number of trucks is due to building of T5.

A big dormitory is there.. those lorries are ferrying those workers.

The sand bank and cement factory oso there.. so lots of trucks..

For TMCR i feel safer as many lanes and the lane is wider.

The Punggol stretch between marina and slope near Seletar airport is the worst road in SG.

Driving there is already bad enough...

Cycling there is also a torture on the saddle.

Lampost 1 stretch is 2nd worst.

Agree TMCR is safer.

I did about 50+km. Have to give up 99 bend, Sentosa & Mt Faber.

Yes, I’m being sarcastic bro. 😁

16” is too small for me. Minimum 20”.

The problem with 20" is the size of the bike when folded, i believe that is also why Brompton does not(want to ) have 20" wheels.
