Wt_know Hypersonic April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 now that lta has announced coe quota for the next 3 months the supply equation is settle the question now is "demand" let's see ... Well when the COE was >$100K that time n many pple said impossible for it to come down much blah blah blah etc etc etc. In a few years it had dropped to just $7K. Hahahahahaha. So now from $70K to drop to <$10K why cannot? All we need is something to spur or jolt the market n then we see it tumble like a house of cards. How true. For us to predict how much the COE can go up or down is impossible. I think easier to predict the next TOTO draw 6 winning numbers. Hahahahaha. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 Even coe is to drop to 30k by 2016, but many people who bought their cars in 2004 and 2005 cannot wait until then. Even those who bought cars in early 2006 also cannot wait. My car COE expire early 2016 so my option is get a cheap 2nd hand car with a couple of years left to scrap. Then wait for COE to drop then get a car then. We just bide our time n wait for the right time to strike. I am in no hurry to get another car. At worse I dun drive n just take public transport till COE tumbles then I get another car.
Battledome64 3rd Gear April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 people just never learn the lesson. during the mid 90s, many car owners have to hug their car for the rest of the bad time when the COE tumble from $90k during asia crisis. now, the history repeats again. those owners who bought their new /old car with high COE would have to hug their expensive for the next 10 years if the COE tumble again. 10 years is not short during the bad time. You can always de register your vehicle and get back unused coe and sell your car
Yeobt Supercharged April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 I wonder who r those happily paying $80K for the piece of paper only(COE) I wud b unable to sleep if I paid $80K for a piece of paper only. not me, i can buy a house with that amount of money. Achee 4th Gear April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 2009 per COE bid rd quota was abt 1800. The recent increase in quota is only up to abt 1100 per bid. Add to that total people population increase of abt 400,000 since 2009, my own forecast is that even in recession, COE will drop to abt 30K max. The recent increase in quota is only for round 1, more to come and much more in the next 1-2 years (judging from cars reaching scrappage age in 2006/2007) although the gahmen did say they might curb some COE supply when the time comes
Sdexxxxd 2nd Gear April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 Highly unlikely. 1) The population has increased significantly over the short span of the past few years 2) 6.9 million projected population is on the way 3) 100,000 cars per year were registered during the golden years of 2005 to 2009. Many are waiting to replace their cars. Demand far outstrips supply 4) Add in 1/3 of the population which is made up of foreigners and PRs. a significant no. of whom are cash rich and first time car buyers Unless there is a recession, unlikely COE prices for cat A & B will fall below $50,000. Mark my words. My guess is that although population has increased compared to 10 years ago, the recent financial rules of high DP will help negate some of the demand. Predicting it will stabilize around $30k-40k before the garment claws back on the supply. Time line 2016.

Liuels 1st Gear April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 i believe it's going to be under 30k. more than 100k cars are going to be scraped per year from 2015 to 17. That means the COE quota would me more than doubled compare to how many we got this month. Yes, those ppl scraped their cars are going to look for a new one. But those who payed 10k, 20k for a COE can afford a 40, 50k COE 10 years later? I don't think so

I don't think so I do not think the gov is going to make the same mistake again for releasing massive COE from 2015 to 17. I believe they will control the number of COE to balance the peak and trough so that there is no large swing in prices which happened in the last 10 years. Matrix0405 5th Gear April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 Car dealers rejoiced with the ~$6K drop in COE. WIth the 6 - 10 bids order in pockets, it simply mean additional $6K profit per car. If they can make COE drop another $6K, that will be $12K more/car. THought, the dealers will tell you they are not keen in COE because they just want to sell car. There was an earlier suggestion earlier that buyer be allowed to specify the max COE he wants to bid. This would be a fairer system.

I believe they will control the number of COE to balance the peak and trough so that there is no large swing in prices which happened in the last 10 years. they are going to control it. but at least the COE quota would be more and more in next few years. In this scenario, ppl tend to wait. It seems that the condo price is dropping now, are you going to buy one at this time? Or you would like to wait and see? Same thing. now the COE is more than 70k, and we think below 30k is impossible. but how about when the time coe dropped to 50k, would you still think 30k is impossible?
