Super7 Turbocharged April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 could be due to widening of roads such as PIE, CTE, etc the widening / improvement are long overdue. despite collecting money thru ERP/COE upfront for so many years, LTA did nothing the revenues collected in the years past should have been used to do these upgrades years ago, not until congestions have built up to choking point in recent years!! ↡ Advertisement
Super7 Turbocharged April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 (edited) High or $1 COE make ZERO difference to road conditions. I don't under why people keep saying high coe less cars, the fact is that less coes hence higher coe and car prices. High price or low price the coe growth is officially ZERO, which means the number of cars on road does NOT change. Next thing some people will say during rain is that, Traffic jam heavy hor..I think COE prices ar too low? OMG lol The only possible result of lesser cars on the road: rich guys paying high COE prices for their multi-car collection, and most of these cars sit in the home garage as these guys and their family can only use 3-4 cars on the road simultaneously at one time while their other 5th/6th/7th cars stay at home. In a free market, poorer drivers (who may need a car for making a living etc) are naturally outbid by the rich guys, indirectly being 'deprived' of COEs while the rich ones leave their expensive COE cars at home, hardly used. Well, in a free market, the poorer guys just have to LL suck thumbs. Edited April 24, 2014 by Super7

Kangadrool Supersonic April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 Good goberment should make public transport as good as, if not better than private transport. “high coe less cars” is not logical, but “high coe good traffic facility" is logical, good govt should use coe $$ to provide us better traffic condition, if condition still not improvement, then cannot stop people to think this $$ into some personal pocket
Yeobt Supercharged April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 our fate is in the govt's hands la. when they feels like COE is too expensive (to please the younger gen before the election), the LTA will give some silly excuses like the road had been expanded and thus can allowed to increase car population (increase COE quota), price starts to drop and young gen vote PAP. when the govt thinks our coffer needs more $$$ to pay our ministers, LTA will says the COE quota was miscalculated, quota reduced, COE price shot up, all suck thumb! wahaha, is useless to talk so much, we are just screwed by our govt.
Hydrocarbon Turbocharged April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 Its about time TP/LTA impose "Jam-Penalty" on drivers who cause accident / breakdown resulting in road jams! For each minute of jam, whack $1k per lane obstructed, non-negotiable. Accident depends, but breakdown, definitely! Especially those vehicles that never service or skip servicing and breakdown. $1k a min seems high initially, but when calculated over total time lost by all the people stuck in the jams, then it's quite low. Yes, commercial vehicles break down and cause massive jams especially during peak hours!! The aggregate manhours lost in the jams easily amount to tens of thousands dollars. The Congestion-Fines collected should be re-distributed to the other road users affected by the jams as a form of compensation. Unless you mean to all other users as part of the entire pool. Best would be to use that money to improve public transport. Though right now (don't know due to probable erection or what not), it seems like there are quite a lot of positive works being done, just not fast enough. (On the other hand, technically speaking, when full-fledge satellite GPS monitoring is in operation islandwide, its not hard to capture / identify the cars affected by the jams and re-distribute the money (via credits for next roadtax renewals) to the affected car owners.) 2 Road widenings / improvements as mentioned have lagged behind demand and car population for many years past and now we can see catching up work, something is better than nothing

Please no! No to GPS ERP type system. I rather forgo that money. Haha... Long term, not going to benefit me. 2. Yep, just hope that their planning for the entry and exit of the highway / expressway is better so that the tailback doesn't affect traffic on the expressway. (This is one thing I'd admire Malaysia for. Their NSHW, even though it's two lane, their entry and exits no tailback. Well planned, I would say. )

Whereas we always find tailback at every entry and exits along our expressway?!
Chucky2007 Turbocharged April 25, 2014 Share April 25, 2014 Can't imagine if one support and lobby for the traffic jam penalty and one fineday got into an accident and faced the penalty.... Haha No one ever got into accidents before? If haven't due to good karma..then good. No one likes to be involved in accident at all, be it the guilty or innocent party. Civic6228 6th Gear April 25, 2014 Share April 25, 2014 Ya, like the former MRT CEO said " you got a choice not to board a crowded train" There is a choice to wake up earlier and take the earlier train ....All over the worlds, trains are crowded during peak hours except for maybe Kaoshiung ... which to me the whole train system is a "white elephant". This is where the bottle neck is which chokes up the traffic behind particularly when traffic is busy. This is man-made bottle neck could have been avoided if the slip roads are designed properly.
