Anyone encounter pick up pin is at the main road but real location to pick up is way further in. Once you're away from the pin, the countdown timer will not be activated.

And most of the times, will encounter rider will come only after a few minutes..

So far 2 loop holes for riders.

Cheaper fare - Complain to Uber that driver took a different route.

Avoid cancellation charges/Waiting charge - Pin the pick up far away from actual pick up location

Interesting read.. Maybe can try.

You got lucky on the first date ah?

Nope it doesn't show.

I don't use uber these days but in general (and I think comfort app has the same issue), the app doesn't tell you if the driver is going to drop someone off or is coming straight. It just shows the ETA. I think it can be improved by showing where the other passenger (if any) is being dropped off so it can be clearer to me when the driver will reach and I can also be sure he isn't going to run an errand at the nearest kopitiam.

Comfort apps doesn't have a map to show you where is the vehicle. However i think Uber and Grab do indicate the car is dropping off passenger and you can see from the map where the passenger is alighting.

Erm.. Give and take as many times not rider fault but is uber app and map pin fault.

Example, rider pin the location is inside carpark. However based on Google map / waze or uber map the carpark road is not marked out. So it will just pin to nearest main road. Another problem is that sometimes rider pin location but there are 2 condo claster close together and it may get pin to the next condo which is not the correct address, or pin the correct location but because the condo is quite big and the pax pin the location is way at the back and the back have main road but there is no road access to condo, the navigation will navigate to the main road instead. It happened too many times already.

Thanks everyone for your enlightenment on ride cancellation.

Nowadays I appears to get a lot more cancellations.

Many times when I just accepted the ride, it follows quickly by rider cancellation.

So I'd not attempt to rush to the next ping. I'll wait a while for that cancellation to come.

I noticed most pings I accept while on the way to drop off current riders are more inline, towards where the next rider is.

So the next rider may not noticed that I'm dropping off a rider first.

I had one rider called me when I appear to be moving further away in the opposite direction.

I explained to her the u-turn is jammed and it's faster if I moved to the next one.

So it might appear to the rider, I'm moving away, but actually I'm not.

And for longer waiting time, it's traffic, a driver cannot control.

Some roads may appear very near in a straight line, as the crow flies, but the driver cannot fly like a crow.

He has to follow the roads, with restricted turns and blocking centre dividers, etc.

On some roads, a rider may walk across easily, while a driver may take additional 5 mins to turnaround if there's heavy traffic.

So I don't expect cancellation rate to go down. But just live with it.

For Uber app, it will auto detect your current location using the GPS. Unless you move the pin to another location yourself, it won't pin base on Google map.

The map on Uber app really CMI.

It's happening, going to be the nightmare for riders waiting to get cab/uber/grab. Drivers will also try to avoid picking up pax from that condo. Lose lose situation.

It appears to be happening with Punggol condos.

I had another nasty experience with River Isles

The riders were late, as usual, and I went into the condo lift lobby to wait instead.

When I came out of the car park, they were waiting on my right, but I could not make a turn there.

The security guards were shouting at me when I tried.

I had to exit the condo and make a farking big 2km turn to get back into the condo.

As I exit, I decide, fark it, and cancel the ride.

Yeap, condo want to fark with drivers, then suck it.

I'd not pick up riders there.

Ya some condo design very weird. Do not have drop off and pick up point near security guard house. Nevermind, just turn in to whichever unit it is and drop off rider, no issue. But it is pick up that is the issue. Sometimes rider booked say the pick up location is at blk H for example, I drove in all the way to the end to blk H, then rider message me the pick up location is actually at blk c. However it's a one way road, so I have to drove all the way out of condo make a u turn and turn back into the condo again to blk c. Stupid design right?

Sometimes riders expect their ride to come the moment they book.

If ETA >5mins high chance will cancel.

Especially you still have a current rider to drop off, they will also cancel.

Once, this fella Book & Cancel 6 times when it got to me. No choice as I was the nearest and fastest even thou still have a rider to drop off. It was raining and holiday seasons. LLPL, still wait for me. 15 mins in total.

If I were you, I will cancel on him when I about to reach. For someone who cancelled on driver 6 times are just simply idiotic. Let him have a taste of same medicine.

Sadly it's a rider market out there, to qualify for the various incentives drivers are gauged on the tri factors

Acceptance rate

cancellation rate

driver rating

i think because of school holiday less people take PHV, last night after work both quote $13-$15 from my office to home where comfort still quote $22 due to all the surcharge   [laugh]

now i see the minimum rate for anything above 10km is $15 for Grab and $14 for Uber, before other surcharge or discount.

I just got another complain about poor route and uber deduct $1.

How poor a route can you go from blk 558 AMK to AMK hub ?

Bcuz of the road, you need to make a turn and then direct to AMK Hub via a u-turn on AMK Ave 3.

Like that, also cheapo riders want to complain.

Next time, just take a taxi or a bus.

It's not the $1, but the principle of cheapo riders, that pissed me off and spoil my day.

I get more than that from tips from generous riders.

Can consider hitch as well, once in a while when I want to offset ERP charges, I will turn it on.

The max fare for hitch I have seen so far is $15, both based on real time data as well as simulating from pasir ris to boon lay or woodlands to resorts world.

As always don't forget to check out discount (codes).

Happy grabbing
