13177 Hypersonic May 30, 2018 Share May 30, 2018 When Grabhitch was first launched in November 2015, there was a 20% commission. Then somewhere along the way they removed it entirely. Now they bringing it back to 10%. http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2701432-grabhitchryde-car-pooling-services/?p=5714727 Since grabhitch fare is usually not high, if still need to pay commission then take back even lesser. ↡ Advertisement
Vinceng Turbocharged May 30, 2018 Share May 30, 2018 With the 10% commission that Grab charges hitch drivers, may not be worth to do a hitch within 2km of your origin and destination, taking into consideration your time & effort, petrol & wear and tear costs, labour & waiting costs (your personal time to make the detour), and parking fees incurred (when your rider is late). GrabHitch fares are already lower than GrabShare off-peak rates, so unless the match is good, don’t waste your time Typo error in red corrected - With the 10% commission that Grab charges hitch drivers, may not be worth to do a hitch more than 2km of your origin and destination, taking into consideration your time & effort, petrol & wear and tear costs, labour & waiting costs (your personal time to make the detour), and parking fees incurred (when your rider is late). GrabHitch fares are already lower than GrabShare off-peak rates, so unless the match is good, don’t waste your time I normally will hitch within a range of total of 8km for pickup and destination (meaning total difference pickup and destination point from my location, eg pickup is 1km from my current location and destination is 6km from my destination). With the 10% charges, within the range will be total of 4km. I think Grab intention is to drive the hitch rider to take grab or taxi since the pool of hitch drivers will start to reduce the range distance that'll hitch a rider. Or the hitch driver will totally give up driving for hitch. I managed to hitch a rider previously which is very near to my location and he mentioned he try to flag for a cab twice but unsuccessful when his first hitch request doesn't get a match and he say luckily the 2nd hitch request got a match. Hitch costs Grab money (credit card commission, maintenance of hitch platform, etc) and takes business away from Grab and taxi drivers, surely it can't be free forever. Long term intention is to take a cut on all transactions (they won't care if it is from hitch/ Grab/ taxi drivers) and why restrict to just Taxi and Grab drivers when you can milk all car owners willing to share their ride with strangers? They are just building a tolling system.
Vinceng Turbocharged May 30, 2018 Share May 30, 2018 (edited) With the 10% commission, for those short trips, must stack at least 2 riders, else it's not wort the trip. Who would want to waste time to take a $5 or $6 trip and earn $4.50 or $5.40 (after deducting 10% commission) for that one trip - not worth the time, effort, running costs and parking charges if rider is late and makes you wait. Riders taking short trips will find it harder to hitch a ride. Edited May 30, 2018 by Vinceng

Since they are taking 10% commission they should let riders decide if they want to pay the extra 10% and not just assume this on drivers.

Believe it or not, there are more and more phv drivers start to do unlimited grabhitch and that start to alarm grab to do something. Grab confirmed see the trend. I still firmly believe that once the grabhitch had enough drivers to meet demand. Grabshare will be removed as grab is still not going to restrict phv drivers from doing unlimited hitch. So the hitch thing by right is created for drivers to share petrol cost become a source of income for phv drivers. Which is not that too right by the way.. Hope lta to do something about it. What loophole.. Well.. When next time take hitch and the car come with phv sticker go ask them. You all will be surprised that now they prefer to do hitch then do normal justgrab and etc. Why? Ask grab.. Grab really...

supersen 1st Gear May 30, 2018 Share May 30, 2018 will take up less hitch from now on since the 10% implemented by grab time and detour don't worth it much more already always see 3km above can forget about hitching
