If they are going to do a broadcast OTA update, how to stop for those who have changed the battery ?

And how to force those who have not change or don't bother to change; to update ?

 

Its not that hard cuz they can do firmware update for those manufactured before a certain date only. Then those which are safe would have been manufactured after a certain date and won't receive the OTA update. But anyway, also depends on the telcos.... if the telco don't release the update then we also won't get it.

I don't think there's been a wider mainstream news coverage of smartphone mishaps than Note7 battery issue. So this sort of incident seems damn irresponsible of the parents when I read about it... there's so many circulars asking people to power down the device and this happens

Telco's OTA can update the mobile equipment's OS? and even the firmware?

Usually, it can only update the USIM card only.

Just got a new Android phone and prompted to upgrade from Lorrypork to Mashpotato. Is it worth updating?

 

Coming from Windows Phone, many years never touch Android liao.

The firmware/software is from the equipment vendor. (Apple)

For your case, should be from LG.

Not the telco. (Singtel, M1, Starhub)

For LG case, some people want to go back from marshy to lolli.

The problem is marshy has a locked bootloader, so can't root.

Lollipop still can root.

 

So, if you're thinking of rooting, don't update. Otherwise do it.

Android OTA updates have to be pushed by carrier. Not the manufacturer.

 

That's how it works. That's why you often read about mind boggling delays to full version updates or even point security updates... because 1) the manufacturer waits for Google to push the updates to the fork; 2) manufacturer uses that and also any firmware updates from chip vendors or even its own UI/skin to apply for each device type; 3) manufacturer gets carrier to push the OTA.

 

With Apple... everything is by them and from the start, they gave the

Luckily, I bought the 32GB version. Should be enough for apps and apps data. Photos can move to SD card.

Since a few years back (I think Note 3), whenever i buy a new phone, the first thing i do is turn off all the upgrade functions. Before that, all my previous phones, every time upgrade phone become worse not better.

Not true la. My Note 4 when upgrade to MM, became abit smoother and battery life was definitely improved.
