Friendstar Supercharged January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 If budget is around 130k, why not consider civic 1.5t, a really nice car! Then the common reply is. Might as well get fxt?Faster than civic 1.5T. More spacious. Made in Japan. My youngest oredi 18... Frankly 97% of the time I am only one using it only weekend 5 of us. With 2 young new drivers in near future so make more $$$ense to go for smaller 5 seaters. After renting hybrid cars in our past Japan drive holidays, we just luv the quietness and good FC. So if the price is right, hybrid will be my first choice Hybrid problem comes years down the road. ↡ Advertisement

newtocars Neutral Newbie January 23, 2017 Share January 23, 2017 Hi everyone, Thought I'll tag on if its okay. Basically I'm looking for a B&B car with the following priorities: 1. Reliability 2. Space (planing for 2-3 kids) 3.Cost Will probably be using it for 10 years, if it holds up. Will probably need it by April so hopefully can benefit from COE price drop by CNY. Did some looking around and realized theres a huge range of cars: - Korean (K3, Elantra - generally cheapest but have concerns about reliability and FC) - Conti (Opel Astra, Ford Focus - decently cheap and best FC tho Astra's cost is deceptive low due to CEVS rebate. Main issue would be cost of maintenance after warranty ends - being held hostage by AD) - Japanese (1.6 Civic, Mazda 3 - Most expensive, great reliability, average FC. Issue with Mazda would be space and cost of maintenance while I'm not sure if I'm prepared to pay the premium for Civic even tho it seems really great. where possible, would prefer to not have keyless start as I read that its a matter of time before it breaks down and the repair cost is insane. Am generally okay with basic electronics to keep maintenance cost low.

You should see the print on their ads - German Engineered. Meaning, the design is by the German but not the manufacturing. It is actually made in Korea. for those who has reservation on the Korean made car.

Did some looking around and realized theres a huge range of cars: - Korean (K3, Elantra - generally cheapest but have concerns about reliability and FC) - previous car was a Forte (predecessor to K3). totally reliable and was problem free for more than 5 years and I sold it when I reached 180,000km. FC was around 11-12km/liter (but it really depends on driving style and usual routes taken) - Conti (Opel Astra, Ford Focus - decently cheap and best FC tho Astra's cost is deceptive low due to CEVS rebate. Main issue would be cost of maintenance after warranty ends - being held hostage by AD) - haven't driven one so can't comment. Though I wish to state that my brother works in Ford and I still ended up buying Jap car when I sold off my Kia. something along the lines of "nice to drive, not so nice to keep for long term and maintain"...ha ha - Japanese (1.6 Civic, Mazda 3 - Most expensive, great reliability, average FC. Issue with Mazda would be space and cost of maintenance while I'm not sure if I'm prepared to pay the premium for Civic even tho it seems really great. - Been driving my Nissan Qashqai for coming to 2 years and more than 73,000km with no major issues...so I think Jap cars generally safe option. Civic looks great actually... but I chose QQ becoz I wanted a taller ride so went for SUV...so nothing bad to say about the Civic...looks very nice actually where possible, would prefer to not have keyless start as I read that its a matter of time before it breaks down and the repair cost is insane. Am generally okay with basic electronics to keep maintenance cost low.
