VW sharan or BMW 216GT?

If you can wait, I suggest you wait. After today's announcement I'm sure BMW will plan to bring in a petrol 2GT soon.

Unlikely.  Diesel MPV provides high torque (216d has 270NM) for load bearing vehicles.  No petrol Cat A turbo car got so much torque.

But with the expected changes up ahead I don't think Cat A and Cat B price will be very much different. We shall see then.

If there is not much diff, why do Altis, Civic must have Cat A le?

It is the mindset of average consumer that resulted in crappy produce we are getting.

Sharan is a full MPV so if u need to ferry 7 regularly, this would obviously be the choice. The 6sp wet GB don't think has any adverse issues unlike the 7sp dry version found in Golf.

2GT is more of a 5+2 for occasional users of 7 seats. The drive of the 2GT is good considering it's only 1.5l but perhaps better to wait for tmr's budget announcement on what's going to happen to diesel vehicles as if it's prohibitive then no point going the diesel route. Good luck!

Should also add that this is like one chicken one duck. Cannot compare.

Sharan can take 7 large-sized adults comfortably.

2GT take 5 large-sized adults already got problem and not v comfortable. 3rd row only for small-sized kids.

Exactly, though I've not driven the petrol GT before, I believe it's puny 1.5l petrol engine would not be able to pull this vehicle along sufficiently unlike its diesel counterpart.

Only the 220i might do it justice if in petrol guise but I feel this being in 2litre category and also AWD, will cost quite abit so may not sell so well. In short, unless there is a significant change in policy, I doubt if PML will bring in a petrol version 2GT at this moment.

Sharan if you are planning on keeping the car for 10 years. Beemer, the 3rd row won't seat your kids comfortably past primary school.

In my case, it wouldn't have lasted beyond P4...

So if TS kids are starting primary school, suggest Sharan better...

Are you sure 220 is xdrive?

Both petrol & diesel comes from the same puny 1.5L.

At 216d price range, it beats a lot of other competitors.

Sorry think only 220d is xdrive. Nevertheless, point I'm trying to make is the cost factor of bringing in higher end petrol 2GTs might mean its not so well received n hence I doubt if PML will do so.

The torque of the diesel beats the equivalent petrol version hands down and this is a plus point which enables this car to sell well here besides the price, even though the engines may be the same .

At 150k - 160k price range, we got Alphard/Veilfire, Estima, Ody & 216d as ppl mover.

Of course BMW

This was the same question I asked a few months back.... eventually settled for the FL Sharan as I have 3 boys of which one is starting primary soon. Plus my parents will follow every weekend for family outing so comfort was key.

But back then in Dec, the sharan was cheaper than the 216GT although BMW was giving quite a hefty over trade on my current ride. My current ride is an Smax which is actually slightly bigger than the 216GT. Hence my CO only approved the bigger car although the fuel efficiency for the 216GT was damn tempting.

Servicing at AD <2hrs already can steal laugh liao...

All my previous ADs servicing experience.. Minimum half day... And maximum full day for simple oild change kind of servicing...

That's why will be the first to go outside workshop once my car out of warranty.

Faster cheaper.

Toyota had a express service for minor servicing, which was within 1 hour I think... not sure if they still have this since I got rid of my Toyota few years ago..

Not true. i'm 1.7m and i can sit quite comfortable in the 2GT's 3rd row driving around singapore. Of course the 2nd row has to be shifted forward a bit, but both 2nd and 3rd rows can sit adults comfortably.

Comparing to a full MPV like Ody, Ody will of course be the most comfortable. 2GT is still a 5+2 car, not a full 7 seater car.

Your comments on the 3rd row, I feel many will not agree.

As an adult, you will be literally sitting on the platform and your knees almost to your chest level. Those with low back pain problems will not be able to get out of the seat after a 30min drive.
