Supercharged

With the more stringent VES and 0% vehicular population growth rate, our air quality should improve.

However, the highest surcharge for more pollutive high-cc cars has been reduced from $30k to $20k. I find this puzzling as it will make it cheaper to buy such pollutive cars.

Therefore, this VES still requires fine-tuning and should stay away from adopting a symmetrical approach as it (a) penalises the Cat A cars more than Cat B cars relatively, and (b) rewards very pollutive cars compared to the previous CEVS.

not when there are still many black-smoke-spewing buses/cabs/vans/trucks on our roads

The complete list of VES rebates, surcharges of our cars as at beginning July 2018.

Not sure if this has been uploaded before. As it’s useful, posting here for all to refer to.

This is very useful and interesting!

May I ask where this comes from though?  Does it only include AD models, as I was checking under Honda make and did not see any PI models listed.

It was sent by a friend who downloaded from LTA website if not mistaken.

I’m not sure what’s the criteria but likely AD cars only cos my understanding is PIs hv to send each car they import for inspection unlike ADs who send only the first of its kind in. I stand corrected on this though.

So naturally, as each PI car may differ from the next (though unlikely) LTA will not update this list for non mass market cars. This my conjecture only.

Somehow give rebate, customer never get, yet no impact on competition.

Something is wrong with the VES scheme. If AD fault then it's evidence of fixing. If not AD fault then its designer of VES scheme fault.

Somehow I don't see that as fixing...

Willing buyer and seller.. caveat emptor..

Currently COE is bid by AD. Where got price transparency?

Without price transparency, how do you know whether the rebate is shared with you?

it’s not willing seller willing buyer

it’s LLST ... just like petrol pump price

you have a choice ... to buy or not to buy

buy ... gave up and succumb to dealers and cartels

Whatever system implemented, it will always have in mind for business. Consummer, till you find a 'body' to protect your interest, just suck thumb lor.

In many countries, their consumer rules really protects the consumers. Here, it's more like a paper tiger.

Probably it's really time to vote the clowns out.

There may be many explanations for the price difference that don't reflect on whether the rebate/surcharge is being passed on.

Difference in the dealer's desired profit margin.

Difference in overhead costs to maintain the dealership, or maybe they realise that the car is unreliable and so needs more $ to cover warranty

Competition for that category, design and desirability for that car, etc.

If you really want to find out whether change in VES is being passed on, then you'd have to look for price movements when the VES changed, eg on 1st July, and account for the change in coe
