kelaihoyin 5th Gear December 5, 2017 Share December 5, 2017 So in a way nobody is going to buy a hybrid and that bunch of people thinking of getting a new car in that price category would rather get a Harrier 2.0T which is less fuel efficient and environmental friendly. So I guess the VES "works" after all? What a joke.
Lava 5th Gear December 5, 2017 Share December 5, 2017 are we going to impose cev tax to those Malaysia veh entering into sin? likewise our lta is issuing summon to sin reg veh for illegal modification on exhaust pipe, but what abt those Malaysia veh or motorcycle entering into sin with their loud and heavily modified exhaust pipe? I feel that this is a double standard if no cev tax imposed on foreign veh entering into sin.
merc280v6 6th Gear December 5, 2017 Share December 5, 2017 And then all it takes is for one Malaysian truck to spew lots of euro1 diesel from their non euro complaint Diesel engine then all is negated.Eh ello, MY is oredi at EURO-4M since 8 years ago lah!(M = modified). What EURO1? Poddah!
merc280v6 6th Gear December 5, 2017 Share December 5, 2017 I have make this comparing CEVS and VES based on just CO2 only. Looks like those hybrid <95g/km are quite badly impact. Majority of 96-160g/km are not really that bad ($5k diff only, assuming other emissions are in line), only those >160g/km sees $10k or above increase.I believe LTA had previously clarified that under the new VES regime: For small engines <1.6L, the NA MPI engines will fare best ... better than Direct Injection, or the small turbos. Large turbo engines (>2L) will fare better than small turbos Hybrids will be impacted by the negative weightage on battery disposal ... raising its overall "cradle-to-grave" carbon footprint Electric cars will be weighed down by the stack emissions of power stations which generate the electricity to drive such cars. While the concept is right, I raise an eyebrow on this last one - cos all our local Gencos have re-powered to CCGTs firing clean natural gas! So bottom line for 2018 is: Cat A: NA MPI engined cars will sell best Cat B: Large (>2L) TC engined cars will sell bestest Very good!

iphone8 4th Gear December 5, 2017 Share December 5, 2017 This VES is a joke. They should give incentive to existing car owner to replace their old car to a more environmental friendly car. Now, existing car owner can renew COE and avoid to pay VES. So, more old cars on the road to generate more pollutants. Moreover, the rebate reduce from $30k to $20k. Is this the correct way to encourage people to own a environmental friendly car?

Petrol more ex, people will feel the pinch more using an old tech car. And, can collect more money to help the society. So, better don’t complain too much.

They can tell lies openly. How to encourage buyers to own models that have lower emission by cutting rebates from $30k to $20k. Furthermore, they encourage buyers to own models that have higher emission by reducing the surcharge from $30k to $20k. The result is higher emission vehicle become cheaper after VES implementation and most of us had to pay more for new car. From https://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=08685840-d664-4713-9ccb-96dcd8936d08 " The VES rebate[1] or surcharge for a car or taxi will be determined by its worst-performing pollutant. This is to encourage buyers to choose models that have lower emissions across all criteria and are cleaner overall, so as to further improve ambient air quality and thereby improve public health[2] (refer to Annex Afor Singapore’s air quality targets).
