I'm a bit kiasi as I use phone for banking n online purchases.  I get a bit bothered when the phone security patches is not up to date.  Will prob wanna change phone when no more supported and the last security patch is >1 year old.

True. Anyway nowadays it's good that there are many good choices from 200-400 dollars. It used to be u had to make very significant compromises. Now it's mostly camera sensor quality and extras like wireless charging.

Good for all.

Best bang for buck will be the recently EOL Poco F3 with SD870 5G, the new Poco F4 is just overpriced.

Why not try pixel 6a or the oneplus nord ce 2?

Most of the chinese phone has alot of bloatware that tends to slow down the phone. Also, their software/UI are just not for me.

So far, i only like lg, pixel and OP UI.

I am also looking to get a budget mid range phone as currently still using S7 which served me well except that the memory is too little, always running out of space to install app...

As i seldom use my phone much nowadays, so basic criteria besides phone call and messaging will be to have ok camera with macro (current S7 is great for me, likewise my previous LG G3) followed by good OS support and 5G as i will want to use it as long as possible.

Almost hooted the POCO X4 Pro 5G (6gb/128gb) @ $224 during Shopee 8.8 flash sale but decided against it as the memory is lesser and camera isn't that good.

I am tending towards Samsung A33 5G (8gb/128GB) as it seems to fulfill my criterias just that the amoled screen resolution is at 90hz which doesn't bothers me.

(My sis bought the A52 5G last year and I think its performance is pretty good)

Current lowest price for A33 5G will be around S$350 on Qoo10 with coupon discount.

I am using pixel 4A and lately have an issue of making call (including WA call/video) to a particular number. After connecting, it will return with an engaged tone. That person did not block me and is able to call me.

Still can send message to that person.

What gives? Anyone has same problem and able to resolve it?

Time for me to get a new phone - been having mi time for the longest time ever - about 10 yrs i guess

mi5 lite for 3yrs (2016-2019) <$500, currently mi9se for gg 3yrs (last bought in 2019 before covid) <$500

both are 'lite' flagship models with a smaller screen (dont like big screens becos too big for pocket)

been waiting for the mi 12 lite to be launched locally but so far not yet - JB is rm1899 (s$589), likely to be $699 - not willing to pay anything more than s$500 (max s$550)

Price - Prefer below s$550

Spec prerequisites:

2) 8GB ram (min)

3) 256 rom

4) 108MP rear cam - 4K video recording

5) 32MP front cam

6) Processor - SD 778 and above or comparable

What do all these specifications equate to? Do you ready need them and how often you use them? Maybe that should be your question before you buy that phone. If it is just answering calls, text, surfing the net, most basic ones do it well lah.

I've been using Mi also for 6-7yrs since giving up Windows, my Mix2S is now more than 4.5yrs so just bought a Moto S30 Pro with Global ROM.

Problem is Motorola left the bootloader unlocked so SingPass won't install, rendering it pretty useless - I didn't know this would be the case when I ordered, obviously, so am working out if I can re-lock it without bricking the entire phone. If so, then the phone is really good with a stripped down A12 and no bloatware. Luckily still have a good Mix2S to use until can sort everything out.

Just to share that I recently bought a used Samsung Galaxy A Quantum from Qoo10 Korean shop for $164 (after coupon discount).  This model is basically A71 5G with 8Gb RAM 128Gb storage, still supported for updates till 2024.  Physical condition of the unit I received quite ok. Good buy for me as it's meant for my son's use and I won't feel heart pain whenever it drops or accidentally broken.

Kinda tempted to get the pixel 7 for my wife. But I will wait for some longer term reviews. The pixel camera shots look dope.

Interesting but ultimately useless. He thinks there is a lot of data because of the votes but because he only use three photos per camera, a lot of the data is actually repeated and useless…..

If he has so much reach, he should shoot a variety of shots of each category, like err portraits of other races….

A major factor would be accounting for human decision fatigue. Like even this simplified ranking test requires to vote on quite a number of outcomes. Probably the first 2-3 match-ups get the most attention.

You would probably have to pay people to give more data points. Or allow for rest etc. Repeated over days.

Haha it's his channel and dark skinned individuals are probably the hardest to get good detail on.

I was reading that like AI facial detection rates go down dramatically on African Americans. Like from high 90+% for Caucasians to 70-80% at best.

If you want detailed breakdowns of each camera performance, probably dxomark is the most detailed and rigorous.
